INTRODUCTION

Guide to the preparation of UniMAP InTRA Report set out the minimum
requirements for format and final form of Bachelor Degree in Engineering report that
must be met in order to gain the approval of the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP)
InTRA Committee. This guide also sets out partial requirement of Unified UniMAP
Policy for InTRA Procedure. All student MUST follows this guideline when
preparing the report.

2.

FORMAT

2.1 Binding
The report HARDCOPY submitted should ONLY be bound with stapler and black
tape (soft bound). The report (SOFTCOPY) should submitted in a CD(PDF file). The
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING REPORT EIT302/4, the full company name and address,
should be typed on the front cover in block letters of 16 point size (Times New Roman)
while the name and ID number of the author, the School, the Program, and the
academic session should be typed on the front cover in block letters of 14 point size
(Times New Roman). The UniMAP logo also must be included in the cover page. (see
ATTACHMENT 1 ).
The report COVER must be using standard colour of InTRA report of School of
Microelectronic Eng. which is ORANGE colour.
2.2 Length of Report
As guidelines, B.Eng InTRA report should generally MINIMUM 40 pages (not
including appendices).
2.3 Typing
2.3.1 Typing Quality
2.3.1(a) Reports should be typed, one and half-spaced, on one side of the paper
only using Microsoft Word 98 2010 by using font Times New
Roman. The acceptable font size for the general text is 12 points.
2.3.1(b) For figure/table captions, please use font size 12 (single-spacing).

2.3.1(c) No crossing-out of letters or words is permitted. Erasers must be clean.

The use of transparent tape for patching in any form is also not allowed.
2.3.2 Spacing
2.3.2(a) While one and half-spacing is generally used through out the text, singlespacing is recommended for long tables, long quotations, notes,
footnotes, and reference entries.
2.4 Margins
2.4.1

The stipulated margins for the general text are as follows:

Top edge
Right side
Left side
Bottom edge

:
:
:
:

2.5 cm or 1 inch
2.5 cm or 1 inch
3.5 cm or 1.35 inch
2.5 cm or 1 inch

(see ATTACHMENT 2 )
2.4.2

The following guidelines should also be observed as far as possible:

(i)
(ii)

Typing should not be done below the bottom margin.

All tables and figures, including their captions, should confirm to margin
requirements.

2.5 Pagination
2.5.1

All numbers are placed without punctuation and about 1.0 cm from the
bottom-edge, in the lower right-hand corner with the last digit even with
the right-hand margin.

2.5.2

The Preliminaries are numbered in consecutive lower case Roman

numerals (i, ii, iii, etc.). The Host Company Verification Statement at
the front of the report is considered to be page i, but the number is not
typed. Roman numeral ii appears on the first page that follows the Title
Page. (see ATTACHMENT 3)

2.5.3

The text and all Reference and Appendix pages are numbered
consecutively in Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, etc.) beginning with 1 on the
first page of the text. (see ATTACHMENT 3)

2.5.4

Every page on which any typing and drawing appear must have a number
except for the Title Page.

2.6 Subdivision
2.6.1

The internal organization of the text should be used consistently

throughout the report. It is recommended that the text should be divided
into chapters.

2.6.2

Text in each chapter should be organized based on chapter number and

content numbers in sequence.
For example, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3. Sub-divisions are also
permitted.
Content of each chapter may be divided under headings and sub-headings
such as 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and so on.

2.6.3
2.6.4

2.7 Tables
2.7.1

They must be properly centered on the page within the prescribed

margin. Each table must bear a reference number (in Arabic numeral) and
a caption.
2.7.2 The number must correspond to a similar number in the text. It may be
useful to place tables in each chapter very close to the discussion related to
the table and number them in sequence.
i.e table found in Chapter 3 should be numbered Table 3.1, Table 3.2, and
so on.
2.7.3 The word Table, its number and its caption appear above the table (font
12, single-spaced). If any table continued onto the following or
subsequent pages, the top line of the pages reads: Table 1.2 continued.
The caption is not repeated.
2.7.4 If the table is reproduced, the reference must be cited.
(see ATTACHMENT 4)
2.8 Figures/Photographs
2.8.1
2.8.2
2.8.3

The word Figure is numbered in Arabic numeral, and its caption is

placed below the figure (font 12, single-spaced).
A figure should not normally extend beyond one page. However if it does,
the same guidelines as for tables should be followed.
Figures should be arranged close to the discussion and analysis and
numbered in sequence, such as Figure 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and so on for figures
correspond to Chapter 1.
(see ATTACHMENT 5)

LAYOUT OF CONTENTS
3.1 InTRA Report is composed of four parts:
3.1.1
The Preliminaries
3.1.2
The Text
3.1.3
Reference Material
3.1.4
Appendices
3.2 Each part has several sections which may be arranged in a numerical sequence
of chapters.
3.1.1 The Preliminaries
All pages in the Preliminaries are numbered in lower case
Roman numerals. The Preliminaries are made up of a
number of sections.
3.1.1(a) Host Company Verification Statement
3.1.1(b) Approval and declaration sheet (see ATTACHMENT 6)
3.1.1(c) Acknowledgments
Include a brief statement of appreciations and in
recognition of any special assistance such as
scholarships from certain sources, utilization of
library, engineers, laboratory, technicians, computer
facilities and assistance provided by the Schools.
3.1.1(d) Table of Contents
The titles of parts, sections or chapters and their
principal subdivisions should be listed in the Table
of Contents and must be worded exactly as they
appear in the body of the report.
It is advisable to use numbers for chapter and its
subheadings, headings (e.g 2), subheadings (e.g
2.1), and sub-sub headings (e.g. 2.1.1).
For further divisions of headings, small letters
within parenthesis (e.g. 4.1.1(b)) may be used.
(see ATTACHMENT 3)
3.1.1(e) List of Tables, Figures and Plates
The list of tables, figures and plates are prepared
separately using the same numbers and captions that

appear in the tables or figures in the text or in the

appendices such as Table 2.1, Table 2.2 or Figure
3.1, Table 3.2 and so on.
(see ATTACHMENT 7 & 8)
3.1.1(f) List of Symbols, Abbreviations or Nomenclature
If necessary to the presentation of report, these lists
should appear after the list of tables, figures and
plates.
(see ATTACHMENT 9)
3.1.2

The Text

The Text is made up of chapters of sections and

subsections. Its internal organization is left to the
student and his/her supervisor(s).
It normally starts with an INTRODUCTION which
highlights the company information
The subsequent chapters normally include, among
other things, the following:
(a) A detailed description of the ACTIVITIES and
tools used (inclusive design and testing phase). The
job done can be presented as a series of figures,
tables, etc. with textual description and
discussion.
(b) CONCLUSION. This is usually treated as the
last major division of the text. There are THREE
(3) elements in the conclusion, which are:
(i) Learning Skill in Industrial Training
(ii) Summary
(ii) Recommendation for Host Company
(iii) Recommendation for InTRA

3.1.2 (a)
Mathematical Formulae
Equations and formulae should be typed clearly using Microsoft
Equation 3.0 . The word equation (*) or eq. (*) are used to
refer to the equation number (* - in Arabic numerals, i.e equation
(1.0), eq. (1.0), equation (1.1), eq. (2.1), etc.). Eq. (1.0), Eq. (1.1),
Eq. (1.2) refer to the equations in Chapter 1, while Eq. (2.2), Eq.
(2.3), Eq. (2.3.1) refer to Chapter 2, etc.
3.1.3

The Reference Material

3.1.3 (a) List of References

This section begins on a fresh page bearing the

heading REFERENCES in capital letters, centered.
The list of references begins four spaces below the
heading and is double-spaced between entries but
single-spaced within each entry.
(see ATTACHMENT 10)
References must be presented according to the
Number System (see ATTACHMENT 11)

3.1.3 (b) Appendices

This section if it is included must be useful and
must be referred to in the text.
It contains supplementary illustrative material,
original data, and quotations too long for inclusion
in the text.
For example, lengthy experimental methods or
mathematical calculations can be conveniently be
described here.
This section is separated from the preceding
material by a cover sheet bearing the heading
APPENDICES in capital letters, centered without
punctuation. This sheet is neither counted nor
numbered.
This section may be divided into Appendix A,
Appendix B, Appendix A(i), Appendix A(ii),
Appendix B(i), etc.
If appendix with its title, if it has one, should be
listed separately in the Table of Contents as a first
order subdivision under the heading APPENDICES.
3.3
Units of Measurement
The Systeme International dUnites (SI) should be used for all scientific and
laboratory data; if it is necessary to quote other figures, these should be added in
parentheses.
