2.01 APPLICATIONS
A. Insulation over waterproof membranes: Extruded polystyrene rigid foam board.

Install generally over horizontal waterproof membranes in hard paved and


landscape planted areas.
Refer to the Architectural and Landscape Architects detail drawings.

B. Roof and roof space insulation: Mineral fibre insulation blanket.

Install under roof cladding and in roof space where shown on the detail drawings.

C. Thermal bridging insulation: Mineral fibre insulation blanket.

Install on interior wall and slab soffit surfaces, external walls and slabs where shown
on the detail drawings and as herein specified.

D. Acoustic wall and partition insulation: Mineral fibre partition batts.


E. Enclosures around hydraulic services in ceiling spaces: Mineral fibre insulation blanket.
2.02 FOAM BOARD INSULATION MATERIALS
A. Extruded Polystyrene Board Insulation: ASTM C 578, Type X; Extruded polystyrene
board with either natural skin or cut cell surfaces; with the following characteristics:
1. Flame Spread Index: 75 or less, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84.
2. Smoke Developed Index: 450 or less, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84.
3. Board Size: 600X1250mm.
4. Board Thickness: 40 mm.
5. Board Edges: Shiplap
6. Compressive Resistance: 500 kPa.
7. Board Density: 38 kg/cu m.
8. Water Absorption, maximum: 0.3 percent, volume.

2.03 BATT AND BLANKET INSULATION MATERIALS
A. Insulation material generally: Flexible preformed mineral fibre batt or blanket, complying
with ASTM C 665; friction fit; unfaced flame spread index of 0 (zero) when tested in
accordance with ASTM E 84.
1. Where indicated, provide foil facing on one side; with flame spread index of 25 or
less, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84.
2. Smoke Developed Index: 0 (zero), when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84.
B. Roof and roof space insulation:
1. Thickness: 100 mm.
2. Density: 40 kg/cu.m.
3. Facing: Aluminium foil.
C. Thermal bridging insulation:
1. Thickness: 38mm.
2. Density: 80 kg/cu.m.

Facing: Light weight aluminium foil.

D. Acoustic insulation in steel stud partitions and partition above operable walls:
1. Thickness: 75mm.
2. Density: 80 kg/cu.m.
E. Enclosures around hydraulic services in ceiling spaces:
1. Thickness: 50mm.
2. Density: 80 kg/cu.m.
F. Acoustic lagging to hydraulic pipes:
1. As specified in Section 15100 Hydraulic Services.
2.04 ACCESSORIES
A. Sheet Vapor Retarder: Specified in Section 07260.
B. Tape: Bright aluminum self-adhering type, mesh reinforced, 50 mm wide.
C. Insulation Fasteners: Impaling clip of nylon with washer retainer, to be mechanically
fastened to surface to receive insulation, length to suit insulation thickness and
substrate, capable of securely and rigidly fastening insulation in place.
D. Wire Mesh: Galvanized steel, hexagonal wire mesh.
E. Adhesive: Type recommended by insulation manufacturer for application.
2.05 ESTIDAMA PBRS REQUIREMENT RE-R1: MINIMUM ENERGY PERFORMANCE
& RE-1: IMPROVED ENERGY PERFORMANCE:
A. General
1. The U-values have been calculated during design stage using Area Weightage
Method, it is the CONTRACTOR responsibility to re-calculate the U-value for all
building fabric elements based on the approved shop drawing, and ensure the
project meets the values specified herein.
2. The CONTRACTOR must show compliance to the stated U-Values prior to the
procurement of the envelope components, through the provision of test certificates,
updated calculations and drawings.
3. The CONTRACTOR must provide test certificates to show compliance with the
below thermal conductivity & U-value
4. The COTRACTOR shall update the drawings and calculation as per his shop
drawings & method of construction.
B. Roof Construction
1. The roof assembly consists of one type of construction only and therefore the Uvalue of the same is calculated as follows, the CONTRATOR is strictly required to
comply with the U-value stated:

A. Glazed Construction
The project includes different types of Glass as per the annexed drawings; The
Contractor shall comply with the following Glass Characteristics:
1. GL1 Glazing System:
a. External Vertical Glazing U-Value: 1.9 W/m2K (Including frame)
b. External Vertical Glazing SHGC: 0.22
2. GL2 Glazing System:
a. External Vertical Glazing U-Value: 5 W/m2K (Including frame)
b. External Vertical Glazing SHGC: 0.3
3. GL3 & GL4Glazing System:
a. External Vertical Glazing U-Value: 2.7 W/m2K (Including frame)
b. External Vertical Glazing SHGC: 0.3

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that substrate, adjacent materials, and insulation materials are dry and that
substrates are ready to receive insulation and adhesive.
B. Verify substrate surfaces are flat, free of honeycomb, fins, irregularities, or materials or
substances that may impede adhesive bond.
3.02 INSULATION BOARD OVER WATERPROOF MEMBRANES
A. Refer to the detail drawings for extent of installation.
B. Lay insulation boards directly over waterproof membranes, do not use adhesives. Butt
edges and ends tightly to adjacent boards and to penetrations.

C. Expansion and construction joints: Stop boards on each side of joints, do not continue
boards across joints in base materials.
D. Prevent insulation from being displaced or damaged before laying geotextile fabric and
paving over.

3.03 BATT AND BLANKET INSTALLATION


A. Installation generally:
1. Install insulation in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
2. Refer to the detail drawings for extent of installation.
3. Install in exterior wall, roof, and ceiling spaces without gaps or voids.
4. Trim insulation neatly to fit spaces. Insulate miscellaneous gaps and voids.
5. Fit insulation tightly in cavities and tightly to exterior side of mechanical and
electrical services within the plane of the insulation.
6. Install with factory applied foil facing warm side of building spaces unless shown or
specified otherwise. Lap ends and side flanges of foil over framing members.
7. Trim insulation neatly to fit spaces. Insulate miscellaneous gaps and voids.
8. Fit insulation tightly in cavities and tightly to exterior side of mechanical and
electrical services within the plane of the insulation.
9. Tape seal butt ends, lapped flanges, and tears or cuts in foil facing.
10. Extend foil facing tightly to pull perimeter of adjacent window and door frames and
other items interrupting the plane of the membrane. Tape seal in place.
B. Roof and roof space insulation:
1. Install roof blanket insulation with foil facing upwards and outwards.
2. Adequately support insulation installation. Where insulation is laid vertically, rigid foil
faced batts may be used in lieu of blanket.
C. Thermal bridging:
1. Apply insulation to all external walls where adjoining internal rooms and spaces.
2. Extend wall insulation 1.0m beyond glazing lines into internal spaces.
3. Insulate internal slab soffits as detailed for at least 1.0m from glazing lines and
external walls.
D. Acoustic insulation:
1. Enclosures around hydraulic services in ceiling spaces:
a. Line gypsum board services enclosure with acoustic insulation blanket as shown
on the detail drawings.
b. Sound lagging of hydraulic pipes: As specified in Section 15100 Hydraulic
Services.
2. Acoustic walls and partitions:
a. Install acoustic insulation blanket between steel stud framing with no gaps
between insulation frames, and penetrations.
A. Coordinate work of this section with requirements for vapor retarder specified in Section
07260.
B.

Coordinate work of this section with construction of air barrier seal specified in Section
07260.
