Operating Precautions

[1] Operating Precautions

Please follow the operating instructions described in this Manual for the safe use of the unit. The unit should
be operated only by those who have been trained and instructed properly in its operation. The unit should be
operated only for its intended use.

1-1.

DANGER

Death or serious injury, damage to equipment or fire will result if the instructions given below are not followed.
Only those who have been trained properly should operate the unit.
Be sure to keep the admittance panels and the access ports closed when the unit is in use.
Using the unit with an admittance panel or an access port left open may cause the infant to fall out of
the baby compartment. Be sure to close the admittance panels and the access ports when performing
phototherapy on an infant inside the incubator.
Monitor the infants skin temperature when operating the unit.
If the incubator air temperature should rise during phototherapy, proceed with the phototherapy after placing the infant in a cot or an open-type incubator (an infant warmer), as
directed by the doctor.
Since a mature infant emits much heat, the incubator air temperature may rise if you place the infant in
the incubator and perform phototherapy. The incubator air temperature may also rise if you use multiple
phototherapy units at the same time or if the room temperature is high. In such a case, proceed with
the phototherapy after placing the infant in a cot or an open-type incubator, as directed by the doctor.
Take sufficient care when using a cot, as it becomes difficult to observe the infant. Alternatively, placing
an ice bag inside the incubator has the effect of decreasing the incubator air temperature. However,
be sure to close the admittance panels and the access ports in this case also.
Do not leave the unit unattended when an admittance panel or an access port is open.
If an admittance panel or an access port is left open, the infant may fall out of the baby compartment
and get fatally injured. Never leave the unit unattended when an admittance panel or an access port
is open.
Stop using the unit immediately and seek repair if an admittance panel, a snap-open access
port or a press lever should be found loose or faulty in any way.
The infant may fall out of the baby compartment.
Never place a body warmer or any other possible ignition source in or near the unit.
Use of oxygen will increase the risk of explosion or fire. Body warmers or other devices in which fire
is used or which will generate a spark may cause an explosion or a fire if used near the unit.
Do not use the unit in the presence of a flammable anesthetic gas.
The unit may cause an explosion or a fire if used in the presence of such a gas.

10

Operating Precautions

Ground the unit securely.

Otherwise, a leakage current may cause an electric shock. In order to complete the ground connection,
connect the power cord only to a properly grounded 3P power outlet including a ground terminal. Do
not operate the unit if you have any doubt about its ground connection.

PLEASE READ WITHOUT FAIL

Do not use ether, alcohol or any other ignitable substance.

Even a small amount of ether, alcohol or any other ignitable substance may cause a fire when mixed
with the oxygen in the incubator.

Do not use a device generating high frequency near the unit.

To prevent malfunction of the unit due to jamming, do not use electric surgical knives, portable and
mobile communication equipment and other devices which generate high frequency near the unit
during its operation.
Analyze arterial gas levels repeatedly when a high oxygen environment is required.
When the infant requires a high oxygen environment, it is extremely important and essential to periodically analyze arterial gas levels in order to maintain the desired oxygen concentration in the incubator.
Follow the doctors instructions in measuring the oxygen concentration because ignoring essential
requirements may increase the risk of retinopathy of prematurity and other adverse effects.
Do not give a shock to the unit or let it hit anything.
The screws or fixed parts may become loose.

1-2.

WARNING

Death or serious injury due to a fire or an electric shock will result if the instructions given below are not followed.
Be sure to follow the doctors instructions in setting the incubator air temperature or the
infants skin temperature.
Be sure to follow the doctors instructions in setting the relative humidity in the incubator.
Be sure to follow the doctors instructions in supplying oxygen.
Use only oxygen for medical use.
Be sure to bear in mind the following precautions during oxygen supply.
Do not place a body warmer, a flashlight, oils and fats, or flammable vaporizable matters in the
incubator.
Use pure cotton for the infants clothing, bed sheets, etc. Do not use any material that is easily
charged with static electricity.
Use pure cotton or fire-proof materials for the clothing of doctors, nurses and ambulance staff who
handle this unit.

11

Operating Precautions

Bear in mind the following precautions while using oxygen supply equipment.
If oil, grease or a grease-like substance should get in contact with pressurized oxygen, a violent
spontaneous ignition may occur. Do not let such substances stick to the oxygen pressure regulator,
the oxygen cylinder valve, piping, connections and other parts of oxygen supply equipment.
On a high-pressure oxygen cylinder, use only a tested pressure reducing valve or pressure regulating valve indicated specifically for oxygen supply. Do not use such a valve for any gas other than air
or oxygen. It is dangerous to use a valve to supply a gas other than air or oxygen and then to supply
oxygen again.
Smoking is prohibited in the room where the unit is installed.
Do not place any possible ignition sources in the room.
Avoid damaging the power cord.
A damaged power cord may cause a fire or an electric shock.
Do not get the power cord caught between the unit and the wall, a shelf or the floor.
Do not place the power cord near a heating apparatus or heat it.
Do not put anything heavy on the power cord.
Always grasp the power plug with your hand to remove the power cord from the power outlet. A
damaged power cord should be replaced immediately with a new one.
Use only the power cord supplied with the unit.
Otherwise, a fire or an electric shock may result.
Before cleaning and disinfecting the unit, be sure to turn the power switch off, remove the
power plug, and allow the incubator air temperature and the heater temperature to drop sufficiently.
Do not touch the power plug with a wet hand.
Touching the power plug with a wet hand may cause an electric shock.
Do not touch the heaters during use or shortly after use.
The heaters are so hot during use and shortly after use that you may get burned. Allow the heaters to
cool down sufficiently before touching them.
Do not disassemble or modify the unit.
Disassembling or modifying the unit may cause a fire, an electric shock or injury.
Do not install the unit where it will be exposed to excessive humidity, dust or steam.
Installing the unit in such a place may cause a fire or an electric shock.
The power outlet should be located near the unit to prevent accidental contact with a trailing
power cord. Use a separate power outlet for each unit.
Do not put many loads on one power outlet.
In order to complete the ground connection, connect the power cord only to a properly
grounded 3P power outlet including a ground terminal.
Do not operate the unit if you have any doubt about its ground connection.

12

Operating Precautions

The electrical rating of this unit is as follows:

AC230V; power consumption 600VA (Hi-Low stand: 120VA); frequency 50/60Hz; operating voltage
range AC230V10%
Do not connect the unit to any other power source.
The unit should be serviced only by qualified personnel.

PLEASE READ WITHOUT FAIL

Ground peripheral electric equipment securely.

Be sure to inspect the unit at the start of each day.

Operating the unit without inspecting it at the start of each day may let a defect pass unnoticed and
cause a potentially unfavorable outcome.
The doctor is responsible for making a decision on transporting a premature infant. Watch
the infant continuously during transport.
Transporting a premature infant is associated with a risk of such damage as intracerebral hemorrhage
due to jolting during transport.
Check for conformity to the applicable standard if the unit is going to be connected to another
medical device for use as a system.
Accessory equipment connected to the analogue and digital interfaces must comply with the relevant
IEC standards (e.g. IEC 60950 for data processing equipment). Furthermore all configurations should
comply with IEC 60601-1. But the items that are not specified as part of the system should not be connected. Anybody who connects additional equipment to the signal input or signal output configures
a medical system, and therefore should make the medical system comply with the requirements of
60601-1 on his or her own responsibility. If in doubt, consult your local Atom representative.

1-3.

CAUTION

Injury or damage to surrounding objects may result if the instructions given below are not followed.
Be sure to clean and disinfect the unit before using it for the first time after purchase.
The unit is shipped without being disinfected.
During standby, be sure to always preheat the unit in order to keep the incubator air temperature stable.
Place the infant in the incubator only after the incubator air temperature has stabilized.
When feeding the cords and tubes into the unit, be very careful not to let them wind or tighten
around the patient.
Do not twist or pull the cords by force.
If any defect should be found, ask an expert for repair without attempting to repair it yourself.

13

Operating Precautions

Remove the power plug from the power outlet before moving the unit to another place or
when the unit is not going to be used for a long time.
Moving the unit to another place with the power plug connected to the power outlet will damage the
power cord and may cause a fire or an electric shock.
Remove the power plug from the power outlet before cleaning and disinfecting the unit.
Cleaning and disinfecting the unit with the power plug connected to the power outlet may cause an
electric shock.
Install the unit on a stable surface.
Installing the unit on an unstable platform or a tilted surface will cause it to fall or drop and may injure
someone. Therefore, before installing the unit, make sure that the place where the unit is to be installed
is stable and strong enough to support the weight of the unit.
Install the unit out of reach of small children.
When performing phototherapy on the infant in the incubator, pay special attention to the
infants skin temperature and the incubator air temperature during the treatment.
The infants skin temperature and the incubator air temperature may rise due to the radiant heat
generated by the phototherapy unit.
Do not install the unit in direct sunlight or near a heating apparatus.
Do not expose the unit to extraordinarily high temperature or excessive humidity.
Do not place anything heavy on the unit.
Do not press strongly or rub the operation panel of the display.
Pressing it strongly or rubbing it may damage the display or cause it to malfunction.
Be careful not to let any medical fluid adhere to the display.
Do not attach any peripheral device that is not specified by Atom to the incubator.
Check the operation of the peripheral devices.
If a device transmitting or receiving weak signals is installed near the unit, it may be affected by the
electromagnetic waves generated by the latter. Check the operation of the peripheral devices for
any effect before using the unit in clinical settings. Stop using the unit immediately if any trouble is
detected.
When relocating the unit, watch your step so that you do not have your feet run over by a
caster.
Do not put your hand on an admittance panel when transporting the unit.
Pressing an admittance panel strongly may break it. At least two people are required to transport the
unit by holding the main body or its handles.
Watch out for any obstacles during transport.
If a peripheral device is attached to the main body, the unit may hit surrounding objects and get damaged or broken.
When taking radiographs with the supplied X-ray cassette tray, read the instruction manuals
for the radiation device, and make sure that necessary protection measures are taken.

Power Failure Alarm

CAUTION
If a power failure alarm does not sound when the power switch is turned on with the power cord
disconnected after recharging, contact your local Atom representative.

The unit contains a battery for generating a power failure alarm when the power supply has stopped. The battery needs charging in any of the following cases:
immediately after purchasing the unit
after the activation of a power failure alarm
when the unit has not been in use for a long time
if no alarm or only a feeble alarm is heard when a power failure alarm is activated by turning the power
switch on with the power cord disconnected
The battery is charged automatically when the unit is connected to the supply mains.
It takes about 50 hours for a completely discharged battery to be fully recharged.

3-8. Daily Inspection

Before using the unit, check it carefully for any faults, contamination, missing parts or defective parts to make
sure that it can be operated safely.

DANGER
Always check the admittance panel operating knobs and the snap-open access ports for proper
operation. If an admittance panel or a snap-open access port should not close securely, do not
place the infant in the incubator and seek repair.

WARNING
Be sure to inspect the unit before at the start of each day. Operating the unit without inspecting it at the
start of each day may let a defect pass unnoticed and cause a potentially unfavorable outcome.

Incubator Air Temperature/Skin Temperature Control and Placing the Infant in the Incubator

[4] Incubator Air Temperature/Skin Temperature Control

and Placing the Infant in the Incubator
Two modes of incubator air temperature control are available in using the incubator: the manual control mode
and the servo control mode.
In the manual control mode, the heater output is controlled to achieve a preselected incubator air temperature;
in the servo control mode, a skin temperature probe is attached to the infant and the heater output is controlled
to maintain the infants skin temperature at a preselected level.

4-1. Setting the Incubator Air Temperature (Manual Control)

Practice and master the operation procedure before placing the infant in the incubator, and conduct temperature
tests with the unit empty to check that it operates normally.

DANGER
Do not place anything weighing 7kg or more (including the infant) on the mattress platform.
Do not apply more force than is necessary to the mattress platform.

Be sure to follow the doctors instructions in setting the incubator air temperature.

OPERATION

WARNING

CAUTION
Practice and master the operation procedure before placing the infant in the incubator, and conduct
temperature tests with the incubator empty to check that the incubator operates normally.
While the infant is in the incubator, check the heater output, the relative humidity, the incubator air
temperature and the oxygen concentration, etc. continuously to make sure that the incubator is
operating correctly.
Be sure to cover the mattress with an appropriate mattress sheet. The mattress is not breathable
and may cause a bedsore.
Check that the air inlets and outlets are not blocked with obstructions such as a diaper or gauze.
If they are blocked, the temperature and the relative humidity in the incubator cannot be controlled
correctly, which causes a danger to the infant in the incubator.
Do not cover the sensor module with a cloth. Otherwise, accurate temperature and relative humidity
readings may not be obtained.

Displaying and Setting the Incubator Air Temperature (Manual Control)

(1) When the incubator starts operating, an appropriate

mode indicator (
in manual control or
in servo
control) comes on and, at the same time, the incubator
air temperature and the set temperature are displayed.
The incubator air temperature is displayed in the
range of 20.0~42.0C in 0.1C increments. Lo will
be displayed if it is 19.9C or lower; Hi will be
displayed if it is 42.1C or higher.
The temperature can be set in the range of
23.0~37.0C in 0.1C increments. If the range of
37.1~39.0C is desired, select the override mode
(see 4-1-2. Setting the Incubator Air Temperature
in the Override Mode).

CAUTION
Set the temperature at least 3C higher than the
ambient temperature. In particular, if a phototherapy unit, a heated humidifier or some other
heat-generating device is used with the incubator,
set the temperature at least 5C higher than the
ambient temperature.
If a lower setting is selected, the incubator cannot
be controlled correctly.

range of 23.0~37.0C in 0.1C increments.
(4) If no key is operated within three seconds,
indicator will stop flashing and remain on and the
incubator will return to its normal operation.

(5) Allow about 50~60 minutes for the incubator air

temperature to stabilize (depending on the ambient temperature). The incubator air temperature
is regarded as stabilized when the incubator air
temperature reading is equal or close to the set
temperature.

WARNING
Be sure to follow the doctors instructions in setting
the incubator air temperature.
26

Incubator Air Temperature/Skin Temperature Control and Placing the Infant in the Incubator

Heater output indicator

The heater output indicator indicates the amount of heat
supply required to maintain the incubator air temperature
at a desired level. As the incubator air temperature rises
toward the set temperature, the heat supply decreases,
and with it the output level shown on the heater output
indicator also decreases gradually from MAX.
When the incubator air temperature has reached the
set temperature, the reading on the indicator remains
within the balanced heat supply range. Thus the heater
output indicator helps monitor the changes in incubator
air temperature control.

4-1-2.

Setting the Incubator Air Temperature in the Override Mode

The incubator air temperature can be set above 37.0C in the range of 37.1~39.0C by using the override function.

DANGER
Always check the admittance panel operating
knobs and the press levers of the snap-open access ports for proper operation. If an admittance
panel or a snap-open access port should not close
securely, do not place the infant in the incubator
and seek repair.
Do not open an admittance panel or an access
port in order to lower the incubator air temperature.
This can be dangerous because the heater output
will increase automatically to maintain the incubator air temperature. This may also cause the infant
to fall out of the baby compartment.
After the infant is placed in the incubator, check
again that the admittance panels and the access
ports are all closed securely.
For the infants safety, never leave the incubator
unattended when an admittance panel or an access port is open.
When opening or closing an admittance panel, be
careful not to get the infant caught.
Make sure that the snap-open access port packings are attached properly. Otherwise, the access
ports may not function properly.

CAUTION
Place the infant in the incubator only after the
incubator air temperature has stabilized.
Opening an admittance panel or an access port,
using a sheet to cover the infant or using an oxygen headbox, etc. in the incubator will change
the air circulation pattern in the incubator. This
may affect the thermal uniformity and change, the
detection and control of the incubator air temperature, and the infants skin temperature.
Do not place anything weighing 7kg or more (including the infant) on the mattress platform.
Do not place any cords or tubes within the moving
area of the admittance panels.

If the heat-sensing surface of the skin temperature probe is attached improperly to the infant,
or if it should be dislodged accidentally from the
infant, the skin temperature cannot be detected
accurately. In servo control operation, in particular, improper attachment of the skin temperature
probe may cause excessive heating. Be very
careful when attaching the skin temperature probe
to the infant.

OPERATION

(6) Allow 4~5 minutes after connecting the skin temperature probe for the temperature reading to stabilize
and then start temperature monitoring with the skin
temperature probe.
The skin temperature is displayed in the range of
30.0~42.0C in 0.1C increments. Lo will be displayed if it is below 30.0C; Hi will be displayed if
it is above 42.0C.

31

Incubator Air Temperature/Skin Temperature Control and Placing the Infant in the Incubator

4-4. Setting the Skin Temperature (Servo Control)

CAUTION
Practice and master the operation procedure before placing the infant in the incubator, and conduct
temperature tests with the incubator empty to check that the incubator operates normally.
While the infant is in the incubator, check the heater output, the incubator air temperature, the relative humidity and the oxygen concentration, etc. continuously to make sure that the infant is not
disturbed.
Monitor the infants core temperature separately during servo control operation.
To prevent a bedsore, change the infants position frequently.

In the servo control mode, the incubator air temperature is controlled by giving priority to the maintenance of
the infants skin temperature. It detects the infants skin temperature with a skin temperature probe attached
to the infants abdomen and maintains the optimum thermal environment through feedback control. In the
servo control mode, the incubator air temperature is controlled automatically to maintain the infants skin
temperature at a constant level (i.e. the set temperature); if the infants skin temperature is lower than the set
temperature, the incubator air temperature will rise, while if the infants skin temperature is higher than the
set temperature, the incubator air temperature will fall.

Mechanism to prevent low incubator air temperature

The incubator is provided with a mechanism to prevent the incubator air temperature from falling unnecessarily due to the infants fever, etc.
If the infants skin temperature should exceed the set temperature by not more than 0.5C, the incubator air
temperature will not fall below the infants skin temperature by more than 5C. Even if the infants skin temperature should exceed the set temperature by more than 0.5C, the incubator air temperature will not fall
below 25C. Thus, during the servo control mode, the incubator air temperature is controlled in the range of
25~38C.
Example: I f the infants skin temperature should rise to 36.8C with the set temperature at 36.5C, the incubator
air temperature will not fall below the infants skin temperature by more than 5C, so that it will not
fall below 31.8C. Even if the infants skin temperature should rise to 37.2C and thus exceed the set
temperature by more than 0.5C, the incubator air temperature will not fall below 25C.

Oxygen Supply

[6] Oxygen Supply

You can supply oxygen to the inside of the incubator.

WARNING
Be sure to follow the doctors instructions in making decisions on oxygen supply.
Pay utmost attention to the oxygen concentration in the incubator during the oxygen supply.
Use only oxygen for medical use.
Never supply humidified oxygen from the oxygen supply port. Supplying humidified oxygen by means
of a humidifier bottle or some other device may damage the internal oxygen supply valve and the
oxygen supply port of the unit.
Pay utmost attention to the changes in the oxygen concentration in the incubator by monitoring it
continuously with an oxygen monitor. If the oxygen concentration in the incubator deviates from a
desired level, make necessary adjustments by increasing or decreasing the oxygen flow rate.
Improper use of supplementary oxygen may cause serious side effects including loss of sight, damage to the brain and death. The risks of side effects vary with infants. Follow the doctors instructions
in selecting an appropriate method of oxygen administration, an appropriate oxygen concentration
and an appropriate duration of administration.
A risk of a fire hazard increases when oxygen is used. Do not place any auxiliary equipment which
may generate sparks in close vicinity to where the incubator is installed.
If oil, grease or a grease-like substance should get in contact with pressurized oxygen, a violent
spontaneous ignition may occur. Do not let such substances stick to the oxygen pressure regulator,
the oxygen cylinder valve, piping, connections and other oxygen supply equipment.
On a high pressure oxygen cylinder, use only a tested pressure-reducing valve or pressure-regulating
valve indicated specifically for oxygen supply.
A dirty filter will affect the oxygen concentration. Replace the filter regularly.
The oxygen flowmeter cannot be expected to provide an accurate index of the oxygen concentration in the incubator. Check the oxygen concentration with a calibrated oxygen monitor or oxygen
controller by following the doctors instructions.
The oxygen concentration in the incubator varies with the dirtiness of the filter, the operating conditions of the incubator, the accuracy of the oxygen flowmeter, etc. To maintain the oxygen concentration in the incubator accurately at a desired level, measure it repeatedly with an accurate oxygen
monitor.
Calibrate the oxygen monitor periodically with the oxygen in the atmosphere (21%O2).
Be sure to follow the doctors instructions in deciding the optimum oxygen concentration on the
basis of PaO2 (a measured arterial oxygen partial pressure level). When the infant requires a high
oxygen environment, it is extremely important and essential to periodically measure the oxygen
concentration in the incubator and analyze arterial gas levels in order to determine a desired oxygen
concentration

40

Oxygen Supply

WARNING
Cleaning or maintaining the incubator in an environment where the oxygen concentration is at a high
level may lead to a fire or an explosion. Before cleaning the incubator, check that the oxygen supply
has been stopped and that the oxygen hose has been removed from the incubator. When the incubator is not in operation, stop the oxygen supply or remove the oxygen hose from the incubator.
The oxygen concentration in the incubator may be affected when an access port or an admittance
panel is opened. Check that all the access port packings and the tube introduction slit assemblies
are securely attached. Any gap in the hood assembly may cause the oxygen concentration in the
incubator to drop.
Oxygen administration may increase the noise level to the infant in the incubator.
When you use the oxygen flowmeter to supply oxygen, the supply flow rate must not exceed 10L/
min. Otherwise, the oxygen supply hose may come off.

Oxygen supply port

(2) The oxygen concentration in the incubator will stabilize in about 40 minutes. Increase the supply flow rate
if the detected oxygen concentration in the incubator
is lower than the desired level; decrease the supply
flow rate if the detected oxygen concentration in the
incubator is higher than the desired level.
Pay utmost attention to the changes in the oxygen
concentration in the incubator by monitoring it with
an oxygen monitor until it stabilizes.

OPERATION

(1) Connect the oxygen flowmeter between the oxygen

supply source and the oxygen supply port. Connect
the oxygen supply hose to the oxygen supply port.
Turn the knob on the oxygen flowmeter and adjust
the flow rate to a desired level.

Oxygen supply port

CAUTION
Be sure to supply oxygen to the oxygen supply
port through the oxygen flowmeter (option).

Connecting the oxygen cylinder

To connect the oxygen cylinder, use the optional OX-235 pressure reducing regulator (for oxygen/a jack
type).

WARNING
Before drawing out the mattress platform, check that the mattress platform stopper has engaged
the rail. Otherwise, the mattress platform will come off and be hazardous.
When drawing out the mattress platform with the infant on it, be careful not to get the patient circuit
pulled out or pulled by force.
Open the admittance panel and draw out the mattress
platform toward you. The stopper will function, and the
mattress platform will be locked in place before coming
out completely.

Other Operation Procedures

7-3. Tilting the Mattress Platform

DANGER
When the mattress platform is tilted, there will be only a little difference in level between the mattress and a snap-open access port. If a snap-open access port should be left open, the infant
may fall through it. Therefore, be sure to close the access ports securely before tilting the mattress
platform.
When tilting the mattress platform, be careful not to get any probes or tubes caught.

You can tilt the mattress platform by operating the mattress platform tilting knobs provided on the outside of the
hood assembly. Operate the tilting knobs gently.

7-5. Letting Cords and Tubes into or out of the Incubator

CAUTION
When letting the cords and tubes into the incubator, be very careful not to let them wind or tighten
around the patient.
Watch the infant continuously so that no cords or tubes will wind around the infant.

A number of cords and tubes may be connected to the infant in the incubator. Let them out of the incubator
through the tube introduction slit packing so that they will not wind around the patient or get in the way of
procedures.
(1) Let the cords and tubes into or out of the incubator
through the tube introduction slit packing on either
side of the hood.
(2) The cords and tubes can be let into or out of the
incubator from the side of the tube introduction slit
packing.

APPENDIX

Note 1: At 80MHz and 800MHz, the higher frequency range applies.

Note 2: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption
and reflection from structures, objects and people.
a The ISM (industrial, scientific, and medical) bands between 150kHz and 80MHz are 6.765MHz to 6.795MHz;
13.553MHz to 13.567MHz; 26.957MHz to 27.283MHz; and 40.66MHz to 40.70MHz.
b The ISM compliance level in the ISM frequency band between 150kHz and 80MHz and in the frequency
range 80MHz to 2.5GHz are intended to decrease the likelihood that mobile/portable communications
equipment could cause interference if it is inadvertently brought into patient areas. For this reason an additional factor of 10/3 is used in calculating the recommended separation distance for transmitters in these
frequency ranges.
c Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones
and land mobile radio, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted
theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an
electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the
Rabee Incu i is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the Rabee Incu i should be observed
to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary,
such as reorienting or relocating the Rabee Incu i.
d Over the frequency range 150kHz to 80MHz, field strengths should be less than 3V/m.

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation distance d in
meters (m) can be determined using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P is the
maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer.
Note 1: At 80MHz and 800MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies.
Note 2: The ISM (industrial, scientific, and medical) bands between 150kHz and 80MHz are 6.765MHz to
6.795MHz; 13.553MHz to 13.567MHz; 26.957MHz to 27.283MHz; and 40.66MHz to 40.70MHz.
Note 3: An additional factor of 10/3 is used in calculating the recommended separation distance for the transmitters in the ISM frequency band between 150kHz and 80MHz and in the frequency range 80MHz
to 2.5GHz to decrease the likelihood that mobile/portable communications equipment could cause
interference if it is inadvertently brought into patient areas.
Note 4: These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption
and reflection from structures, objects and people.
