As a young boy we did numerous excursions from schools to historic places.

One such was

the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, India during which I learnt about the various
satellite launch vehicles that were present there. I was astounded by the effort behind
manufacturing and fabrication of launch vehicles and it sparked an interest in manufacturing
technology in me to design and manufacture a whole component of my own. After I finished
my schooling, I joined Mechanical Engineering to enhance my knowledge on manufacturing.
During our lab classes, I learnt about the working of various workshop machinery which
enthralled me.

During the course of my under graduation, I got the opportunity to learn about various parts
of manufacturing and automation through my theoretical and practical class hours. During
this period, I acquired significant knowledge on the diversified fields of mechanical
engineering though subjects such as Total Quality Management, Mechatronics, Design of
Machine Elements and Finite Element Analysis. These subjects enhanced my knowledge
about the basic structure and the processes involved in mechanical components. They also
helped me understand the various functions that are a part of an industry. I was interested in
learning more about the design of the components, hence I enrolled in a design course for
Master Diploma in Automotive Design at CADD Centre, Vadapalani. During this course I
leant about the various designing and drafting software such as CREO, CATIA, ANSYS and
NX. These assisted me to understand the structure and various stresses present in the
components better.

I attended various workshops during my academic period to learn new concepts and emerging
trends in the Industry sector. I have attended workshops on Introduction to Finite Element
Modelling and Computational Fluid Dynamics which assisted understanding my core
subjects Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics. I have also undergone
In-Plant Training in various industries. At Integral Coach Factory, I was able to observe the
manufacturing of a train coach from the material stage to its finished stage. At Asahi India
Glass factory, I learnt about the various stages of production of windshields in automobiles.
At Shakthi Hi-Tech Constructions Private Ltd., I witnessed the manufacture of large sized
pressure vessels.

I also participated in various projects during my under graduation. During my pre-final year I
participated in a Go-Kart competition known as International Series of Karting 2015 for
which I was part of the design team. Along with my team, I did analysis of the vehicle
components. Our team won the Best Aesthetics award in the competition. For the purpose of
my pre-final year project, I fabricated an Underground Vegetable Harvester along with my
teammates. I designed this project which we completed in about a week. For this project we
machined various components and assembled them. I have also presented my technical
papers on various manufacturing related topics during symposiums and international
conferences. I presented my paper Design of Helical Spring Using Composite Material at
the International Conference on Advances in Design and Manufacturing 2015 held at
National Institute of Technology, Trichy in the month of December, 2014. I presented my

paper Design and Manufacture of Underground Vegetable Harvester at International

Conference on Research and Advancements in Engineering and Technology 2015 held by
International Institute of Scientific Research and Technology in the month of May, 2015 and
won the Best Paper award. It was also published in the International Journal of Mechanical
Civil and Control Engineering (IJMCC) Volume 1 Issue 3.

In order to achieve my dream, I wish to pursue my Masters Degree in Textile Engineering. I

believe that being a vast domain Industrial Engineering will aid me in learning new areas in
Research and Development which will improve my experience in the industry. I see myself
designing my own components and starting my own industry in a few years after my postgraduation. I believe my experiences in the projects and courses I have undertaken during my
under graduation have provided a right platform for me for Masters Degree in Industrial
Engineering.

I am assured that the University of Texas, Arlington will be the right choice to pursue my
Masters program as the course curriculum with its diverse elective subjects will provide me
the required knowledge of Industrial Engineering. I would be delighted if I could get a chance
to work under Mr. Paul Componation about his research on Value base Design as I have
presented papers on using composite materials and participated in design competitions. I
firmly believe that his insight and experience on the topic will assist me in achieving my
goals.

I am an active member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) which is a professional

organisation that conducts technical activities related to mechanical engineering. I am also a
member of the Rotract Club and other professional societies such as IEEE, SME, IISRT and
IIRDEM. Due to my diligent management skills, I was given post of treasurer for SAE
Collegiate Club in my college for the year 2015-16 and also participated in various club
related activities during this period. I am sure that I will be a valuable asset to the university
and will engage in the diverse club related activities in your esteemed university.
