You are provided with a dataset comprising 300 cases of students test scores and basic
demographic information under the file name HMEF5113 Assignment 1 May 2016.sav.
Study this dataset carefully and answer the following questions:
a. Generate a new variable from 3 other existing variables in the dataset, i.e.
Maths_procedure, Maths_concept and Maths_problem_solving. Name this new variable
as Mathematics_Total_Score.
[5 marks]
b. The dataset shows a number of students who did not take the BM writing and BM
reading tests. Create two new variables using the Replace Missing Values option via the
series mean method (mean of the variable). Name these 2 variables BM_writing_new
and BM_reading_new respectively.
[5 marks]
c. Using the newly created variable BM_writing_new and BM_reading_new variables,
compute the Total BM writing and reading scores. Use the variable name
Total_BM_writing_reading.
[3 marks]
d. Run an exploratory data analysis of the Total_BM_writing_reading score by i. Gender
and ii. School Location. Describe the exploratory data analysis output.
[30 marks]
e. Run a crosstabulation of Gender by School Location. Describe the crosstabulation
