* the montage is edited to match the length of the song , though one verse has been
left out
* most shots are linked to the next, via DISSOLVES , often with considerable
superimposition
* the last few images remain superimposed on one another to create an almost
abstract effect
* the dog starts being recorded by Sam but later shots are from performance
( different costumes, setting)
* repeated care flashes coincide with the few CUTS ; sunshine cf. flash
* ostensibly the recording of the song but several shots suggests singing in in
concerts also , and the juxtaposition of June's picture suggests he is singing or her
as much as for Vivian for whom he wrote it.

Cinematography
Cinematography, the art and technology of motion-picture photography. It involves
such techniques as the general composition of a scene ; the lighting of the set or
location ; the choice of cameras, lenses, filters, and film stock ; the camera angle and
movements ; and the integration of any special effects.

A BIOPIC
A sub genre of the larger drama and epic genres ; they have been popular since their
hey-day in the 1930s to right to today. These films depict and dramatise the life of an
important historical person ( or group ) from the past or present era. Sometimes
( often) historical biopics stretch the truth and tell a life story with varying degrees of
accuracy.
A biopic

Walk the Line

1) does not need to tell the whole of

the life story , but may choose a
significant part of that life.

Walk the line tells the story of Johnny

cash and a portion of his life. It
focuses mainly on his life as a
performer and the most climatic
moments in his mid years. Main story
focuses 155-1968

2 ) may show the person against a

wide social context of great events, e.g
War

3) needs to be reasonably close to the

facts, though some compression and
selection will be inevitable

4) the performance will show the

depth of the character and not just the
superficial. It will revels the character's
personality , philosophies, underlying
motives - a great truth than is perhaps
already known.

Johnny goes to war, there is a rise in

drug abuse. The emergence of Rock '
n' Roll and fame.
John and June Cash were both
involved in the screenplay.
Selection of certain scenes to help tell
the story more effectively and some
things left out ( not enough time to tell
it all ).

We see Johnny as a performer
