1)What is the usage of jar test ?

The jar test is intended to simulate the coagulation/flocculation process in a water

treatment plant. The results that it produces are used to help optimize the
performance of the plant. And also make water clean from particles.
2) What are the operating factors that influence the performance of jar test.
-PH is 5-7
-alkalinity of water>30rpm
-concentration of salt effect
-turbidity
-temperature
7) In what way the dosage of aluminum sulfate in the treatment process can be
reduced?

The jar test is performed to determine the best conditions for removing turbidity
from water. It is conducted several times, adding different amounts of coagulant
each time, to determine which concentration of the coagulant in the water will give
optimal results in terms of removing turbidity. This optimum coagulant level is
different for different samples of water, depending on characteristics of the water
such as pH and initial turbidity, so, as a body of water changes the jar test results
will change as well.
Aluminum sulfate was dosed in the form of a 10-11% aqueous solution, the dose
being reduced to the minimum (10-20 g/ms). During the time of the tests, the
specific hydraulic load on the flotation call was 48-67 m9/m2*h. The results
obtained in this series of tests showed that under conditions of coagulation by the
minimum dose of aluminum sulfate in the presence of CF with subsequent flotation
at the higher levels of hydraulic load, the following maximum degrees of
purification were achieved in the treatment of wastewater containing petroleum and
lube oil wastes;
up to 40% on COD, up to 73% on ether-soluble substances* up to
93% on oily materials, and up to 91% on solid contaminants.Without the use of the
CF, an aluminum sulfate consumption of at least 100-200 g/ms is required.

CONCLUSION
Jar testing is an experimental method where optimal conditions are determined
empirically rather than theoretically. Jar test are meant to mimic the conditions and
processes that take place in the clarification portion of water and wastewater
treatment plants. The values that are obtained through the experiment are
correlated and adjusted in order to account for the actual treatment system.
By performing jar tests, we can try alternative treatment doses and strategies
without altering the performance of the full-scale treatment plant and easily
compare the results of several different chemical treatments for time of formation,
floc size, settleability, and, perhaps, filtration characteristics. One cannot make such
comparisons with the full plants treatment.
Another important reason to perform jar testing is to save money. One of the
common problems in water treatment is overfeeding or overdosing, especially with
coagulants. This may not hurt the quality of water, but it can cost a lot of money.
One of the easiest things an operator can do for optimization of the plant is jar
testing, and jar testing is a must when looking at best available technologies.
As the conclusion, from this experiment, our group had achieved the objective of jar
test experiment and our group had learned the method of the bacteria count
experiment.
