Course Title: Beginning/Intermediate/Piano Techniques Studies, Music Appreciation

Couse Materials: G. Schafer Sight Reading Exercises I-III, Alfreds Complete Piano Course I-III,
Course Description: Music Appreciation is a non-selective course for 9 th-12 grade students. Students will
learn, discuss, and analyze American Popular Music and its cultural effect on the United States of
America. Piano Techniques is a selective course for 9 th- 12th grade students. Students will perform a
variety Piano Repertoire from levels 1- 4 literature lists, develop strong sight-reading skills, discuss, and
analyze theoretical concepts as it relates to piano performance techniques.
Course Outline/Objectives: The student will develop their musical skills through listening, reading,
writing, singing, and performing. Every week throughout the school year, students will review and learn
the following objectives in the Piano content area: posture, hand positions, tone quality, intonation, style,
repertoire knowledge, syncopation rhythm, vocabulary, dynamics, balance/blend, phrasing and music
theory.

Music Theory Worksheets, Piano Textbook, Classwork Quizzes, and Listening Exams

Scales, Chords/Triad, Arpeggios Listening Assessments, Quarterly Piano Recitals
Final Presentation:
Piano Recital, M.A. Compositions Recital

Student Supplies and Uniform: Student will need a 1inch 3-ring binder with outer pockets and pencils.
Information about Formal Attire will be addressed in a forthcoming letter.

1. The best way to communicate comments, questions or concerns to me is via email.
2. There will also be parent-teacher conferences held throughout the year to give parents the opportunity
to be informed on what the student is learning in class, how they can help at home and any behavioral
problems the occurred during that time.
