Course Information:
In Design and Modeling, students apply the design process to solve problems and understand
the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They work in teams to design a
playground and furniture, capturing research and ideas in their engineering notebooks. Using
Autodesk design software, students create a virtual image of their designs and produce a
portfolio to showcase their innovative solutions.
Necessary Supplies:
1. Pencil
2. Engineering Notebook (Provided)
Students will need to bring a pencil to class daily. Upon arrival to class, they will pick up their
engineering notebook on a daily basis.
Behavior Expectations:
Students are expected to be in their assigned seat when the bell rings. Students are held
accountable for their actions, and should come to class ready to participate actively and give
their best effort each day. Students are expected to be respectful to the teacher and to
each other. This includes avoiding unnecessary disruptions that affect the learning
environment of other students. The same expectations apply for me as well. You should feel
respected, safe, and a part of an environment that will help you be successful. I am your
biggest cheerleader- if you need me to help you in any way to be successful in this class,
please dont hesitate to ask! Students will also working on classroom norms during the first
week of school, which will be posted in the room, and we can expect to hold each other to
during the year. Additionally, ALL Anchor Bay School District rules and policies apply!
Grading:
Grades will be based on homework, projects, and activities. Student grades will be calculated
using a total points system. Daily assignments will typically be worth 5 points, and larger
projects can be worth anywhere from 10 points-100 points, depending on the length and
complexity of the project. Grading for specific projects will be reviewed when introduced.
Engineering Notebook:
Students will be assessed using their engineering notebook as a primary tool. Students will be
required to label each page with a title and signatures, as well as a witness signature. They
will be responsible for maintaining a table of contents of projects as well. All work in the

engineering notebook should be neat, legible, and clearly communicated. The engineering
notebooks are NOT permitted to leave the classroom.
Late/Absent Policy:
If you are absent, please make sure to check the calendar to see what you missed. If you are
absent for a one day assignment, you will most likely be excused, provided the absence is
excused. For larger projects, you are responsible for managing your time to catch up. Each
assignment/project will have a deadline. This could be at the end of a class period, or at the
end of a project. Each day past a deadline will incur a 10% lateness deduction, for up to 5
school days.
Projects/Performance Tasks:
Projects are very common in Design and Modeling. Some tasks take quite a bit of time to
complete, others, such as Problem-Solving Fridays will be completed in one class period.
Please use your agenda to keep track of deadlines!
Conclusion Questions:
Conclusion questions are a way for students to reflect on their work in a lesson or a project.
These need to be completed in complete sentences, and show some level of thought to receive
full credit.
Extra Help:
I am available most days before and after school for additional help. Please let me know if
you need extra help, and when you would like to come in. I do my best to make myself available
to students. Prior to each test, a before-school review will be held. Be sure to pay attention
in class to find out when those review sessions are!
