Section B - Critical Review

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Becoming a teacher is not an easy job. The teachers play an important role in the
outcomes of the educational process. Teacher is a central figure; their hands which
holds the successfulness and achievements of pupils learning in the school. Because
of their duty and practices, the teachers are not only responsible to just teaching and
training the pupils but they have to be able to handle the situation and condition of their
classroom efficiently so that the pupils could gain knowledge.
Their roles in giving good impacts for the pupils to learn effectively are a must.
The teacher also must abide to their Code of Ethics. The teacher is a backbone of the
education system. Thus, they are hoped to create an efficient group of learners and
create a conducive classroom. This activity must be an ongoing process in align with
the development and needs of the educational world, until then the teacher needs to
develop their professional skills so that they could would not be involve themselves in
any kinds of problems.

2.0 SUMMARY
This section contains the summary of the article Current Ethical Issues in
Teacher Education: A Critical Analysis on Pre-Service and In-Service Emerging
Teachers. In the introduction, Its stated that The Code of Ethics of the teacher
Education Profession indicated aspiration of all educators and provides standards by
which to judge conduct (p.1). In their conclusion on analysis done for Teacher and
Educational Quality: Monitoring Global Needs for 2015 (2006) published in UNESCO
report. The result from this analysis indicated that teacher should possess subject
content knowledge, general pedagogical knowledge and the knowledge of educational

context and goals; and should be able to use this knowledge creatively to deal with ever
changing classroom situations. This, however provide a proof that the teacher roles are
important in education. They say that teachers are still humans and they do made
mistakes and involve themselves in this ethical issue.
There were eight issues that were discussed that were linked to the teacher.
Firstly, is the current ethical issue which teachers are involve with the rapidly increase
corruption. Secondly, is the Privation of Education, the cause for this problem was the
mushrooming of the private institute in the modern era has acquired the status of
commodity where the teachers are traders and students are customers. Third issue is
the political interference this is because the misuse of human resource management in
education. Fourth is the teacher should consider Ethics of Care in Teacher-Student
Relationship by establishing good rapport with the pupils the teacher gain their respects.
Un-Fair Assessment are an issue as well, teacher should avoid letting unrelated factors
or professional biases which affects their grading of students assessments. Sixth is the
teacher Absenteeism, it provide the students with negative role models. The boundaries
in teaching students become a major problems as well; boundaries such as
communication, cultural, emotional and relationship boundaries. The missed ethical
education in current teacher training curriculum is considered a problem because of the
un-relatedness of ethical discourses at the training college and classroom realities in
school.
According to the author that the ethical dimension are important in the
educational system which is present in the several legislative documents, both with
regard to the education of the pupils and to the teacher education. However, if these
trends continue the pre-service teacher remains the important determination of how
teachers learn and succeed in the dynamic circumstances of real classroom and
school.(p.2)
In his conclusion, the author draws intention to the necessities to increase the
ethical values, philosophical thinking, study, research and moral development in
education system. This scenario they pictures if ethical issues are present in education.
It is already happening in India, where ethical issues become endemic.

3.0 ARGUMENTS
This section looks in to the authors and what that argument means to the
teacher. In addition, I would suggest my own implication from my aspect to solve the
issue.
AUTHORS ARGUMENTS AND IMPLICATION
The main purpose for the article is to explain the ethical issues that occur in
India. They argue that teachers are mostly involved in the issue and it will continue to
spread. The reason why it is spreading because a teacher does not feel it is their
responsibility. If this continues to occur the future of education in the country will be
destroyed.
The implication of the authors is that the teacher are not prepare to handle their
jobs as a teacher and avoid ethical problems among themselves as the effect of plague,
ethical issues must be stopped.
CONTRASING OPINION
Teachers have implication towards their role and function that becomes a
responsibility for them. Teachers have one universal role and function that could not be
separated, among of them are the ability to educate, guide, teach and train. These four
roles are integrated into one another and cannot be separated. Therefore, teachers are
responsible for the future of their students. That is why the quality of education are
judge bases on the ability of the teachers in executing their daily duty which is facilitate
learning in the school. There are a few roles and function that increase the quality of
education based on Usman (2004) in Widyaiswara (2012) that state:
1. Teacher as a demonstrator that demonstrate a learning material, until it is
understood by the pupils.
2. Teacher as a conductor which functions to handle and organize a classroom so
that the learning is more guided.

3. Teacher as a mediator and facilitator function as to promote a media or teaching

aids in teaching and learning.
4. Teacher as an evaluator function as to evaluate student.
With that in any educational system the teacher roles become crucial in the
development. If teacher could follow and fulfill this role than the teacher would not have
any problems regarding the ethical issues that occurred in India or any part of the world.
It is the teacher themselves need to learn conventional approaches and re learning of
emerges and pedagogical content knowledge to act as a facilitator of learning.

4.1 Conclusion
This critical review has evaluated the article " Current Ethical Issues in Teacher
Education: A Critical Analysis on Pre-Service and In-Service Emerging Teachers " by the
authors. The arguments in the article show the presence issues of teacher in India, and
it is a major thing that could affect other countries. These give the authors argument
huge points and increase their credibility.
