Dr. Bernd Westphal brief Introduction:

Dr. Bernd Westphal completed his studies of mathematics and computer
science at the University of Freiburg, Germany, with a master's degree in
2001. He received his PhD from University of Oldenburg for his thesis on
specification and verification of dynamic topology systems in 2008. In
2008, he joined the University of Freiburg, Germany for a full-time
Postdoctoral position at the chair of Software Engineering. His research
interests comprise the areas of formal modelling and verification of
software systems. He has published works on the semantics and
verification of visual formalisms like UML and Live Sequence Charts for
specifying requirements, modelling system designs, and formally verifying
designs using the technique of spotlight abstraction to cope with infinite
state systems. His recent research focuses on the usage of formal methods
in small to medium sized enterprises, with an emphasis on real-time
aspects and close cooperation with partners from the high-tech industry.
The teaching experience of Dr. Westphal includes the redesign of
Freiburg's undergraduate course on Software Engineering, courses on the
specialization topics Real-Time Systems and Unified Modelling Language
in the master's program, as well as seminars on related topics.
