NATIONAL:
1. ISRO to launch two satellites in September :

1. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) that had braced itself


for one launch every month is planning two launches this month.
2. The launch of GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle)
Mark II carrying the geostationary weather satellite INSAT-3DR
was earlier postponed due to a technical issue
3. INSAT-3DR is a follow-on to INSAT-3D which entered space in
2013 from French Guiana.
4. The spacecraft was flagged off to Satish Dhawan Space Centre at
Sriharikota on August 5, 2016, from ISRO Satellite Centre here.
5. Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will be used to launch this
satellite that is expected to replace Oceansat-2 which is completing
its lifespan.
6. An Algerian satellite along with two other satellites will be copassengers to ScatSat during this launch, ISRO officials said.

2. BRICS Convention on Tourism begins in Madhya Pradesh :

1. The two day BRICS Convention on Tourism began at world


heritage site Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh on 1st September.
2. States Tourism Minister Surendra Patwa and Union Tourism
Secretary Vinod Zutshi inaugurated the event.
3. Delegations from the BRICS countries India, Brazil, Russia, China
and South Africa are participating in the convention.
4. The event comprises of inter- governmental exchange of views and
ideas and panel discussions on different subjects including
cooperation between the BRICS countries for promoting intraregional tourism.
5. Business to Business meetings between the India Travel Trade and
their counterparts from the BRICS countries will also be organised.
6. The convention is being organised as a precursor to the BRICS
Summit to be held in Goa in October this year.

3. 13 Indians infected with Zika virus in Singapore :

1. 13 Indians have been infected with the Zika virus in Singapore, the
Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Thursday 1st September.
2. The Singapore government informed the Indian authorities on
Thursday about the mosquito-borne infection.
3. Identities of the patients have not been revealed.
4. Chinese authorities confirmed that 21 Chinese nationals were
stricken with the Zika virus in Singapore.
5. China issued an alert against travelling to the island nation.
6. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced
here that they were informed about the situation by the Singapore
Health Ministry.

1. Brazil's Senate has removed President, Dilma Rousseff, from the


office for breaking budgetary laws.
2. It has ended 13 years of leftist Workers Party rule in Latin America's
largest economy.
3. Conservative Michel Temer, the former Vice President, who has run
Brazil since Rousseff's suspension in May, has been sworn in as 37th
President of the country to serve out the remainder of the
Presidential term through 2018.
4. Ms Rousseff, Brazils first female President, became the President

5. Mukesh Ambani unveils mega Jio plans :

1. Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani on


Thursday 1st September, laid out his plans to unveil a 4G mobile
network in the country.
2. Including making all domestic voice calls and roaming free, while
asserting that data would be priced well below its competitors.
3. Aims for 100 million customers
4. The company would seek to have 100 million customers in the
shortest possible time as it builds out its 4G network across the
country.
5. Mr. Ambani announced a free welcome offer for Jio customers
from September 5 tol December 31.
6. Reliance Jio will offer users data services free for four months, after
which it will offer 10 tariff plans starting at Rs 19 a day for

6. Paes, Sania, Bopanna win at US Open

1. Bopanna kicked off Indias day with a sweat-inducing win with his Danish
partner Frederik Nielsen over Radek Stepanek and Nenad Zimonjic.
2. Indian tennis stars Leander Paes, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna began their
US Open campaign on a sound note, winning their respective opening round
matches at Flushing Meadows
3. Bopanna kicked off Indias day with a sweat-inducing 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3 win with
his Danish partner Frederik Nielsen over 16th seeds Radek Stepanek and Nenad
Zimonjic in the first round mens doubles on Wednesday.
4. Seventh seeds Sania Mirza and her Czech partner Barbora Strycova defeated
unseeded American pairing of Jada Myii Hart and Ena Shibahara 6-2, 6-3 in a
fairly comfortable fashion in womens doubles.

points throughout the course of the match, converting three of them to secure
the win.
