How to use Crankbrothers Gem Pumps

(Samples Only)

Valve Descriptions

Gem Pump Use Instructions

1. All Gem pumps have reversible heads. Please determine the valve type you are using as per the examples above
and orientate internal parts of the pump head as per Reversing the Pump Head instructions.
2. If mounting onto a presta valve, remember to unscrew the valve locknut and tap to insure it is not stuck.
3. Push the pump head onto your valve.
4. Lift the lever arm from the pump head to lock into place. (See lock/unlock diagram)
5. Support the pump head by placing your palm on the backside of the head and grasp the spokes with your fingers
to stabilize the pump (see example).
6. Begin pumping with the pump set to high volume. If the resistance becomes too strong, set the pump to high
pressure and continue. You will hear air leaving the pump in this mode. This is necessary to achieve the easier
pumping action. (see drawing)
7. Once optimum pressure is achieved, release the pump head by moving the lever back to the unlocked position,
or flat against the pump head. (See drawing). Remember to tighten the presta valve nut if applicable.
8. Check the pump valve cap periodically for tightness.

Unscrew the pump head cap to expose the rubber gasket and plastic adapter.
Activate the pump head lever to force the rubber gasket out. You may need to tap the pump on a hard surface to
expose the gasket enough to grab with your fingers.
Once both the rubber gasket and the plastic adapter are removed, orientate as per the guideline for presta or
schrader valves. (See drawing).
Make sure the lever is returned to the unlocked position and re-insert the rubber gasket and plastic adaptor into
the pump head, plastic part first.
Screw the head cap back onto the pump until it bottoms out against the head body.
