HE REACHES, HE STEALS, HE SCORES
INF/OF Trea Turner posted his 22nd multi-hit game of the season on Friday, going 2-for-4 and
extending his on-base streak to 21 straight games...Turner is just the second rookie in Nationals history (2005-pres.) to record an on-base streak of 20 games or more, joining Danny
Espinosa who reached in 26 games from June 11-July 8, 2011...Turner has hit safely in 19
of those 21 games (including multi-hit games in eight of his last nine) hitting .406 (39-for-96)
with five doubles, two triples, three home runs, 10 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 22 runs scored.
Turners first-inning single on Friday quickly turned into a 1-0 Nationals lead as he stole
second, setting a Nationals rookie record (2005-pres.) for most stolen bases in a season
with 19, and then stole third, re-setting that record at 20.
Turner posted 45 hits in August, a Nationals rookie record (2005-present) for hits in a single
calendar month and two shy of 2B Daniel Murphy (47, May) for the Nationals record for
hits in a month and the franchise record (Nationals/Expos) of 47, held by Murphy, OF Al
Oliver (August, 1982) & OF Marquis Grissom (June, 1994).
According to Elias, Turners 27 runs in August were a new franchise record for most runs in
a month by a Nationals/Expos rookie, topping the 26 Bryce Harper scored in Sept. 2012.
Among MLB rookies with at least 180 plate appearances, Turner leads in average (.347)
while ranking in slugging percentage (4th, .537) and on-base percentage (4th, .367)...He
leads all rookies in triples (6) and ranks second with 20 stolen bases.
LEADING MAN
Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy leads the National League in slugging percentage (.598), doubles (T1st, 38), and multi-hit games (51)...He also ranks among NL hitters in batting average
(2nd, .341), OPS (.983), RBI (2nd, 98), extra base hits (T4th, 68), hits (T2nd, 163), and onbase percentage (10th, .385), among other categories.
Murphy ranks T2nd in MLB with 30 go-ahead RBI & is T3rd with 16 game-winning RBI.
With 98 RBI this season, Murphy is two shy of becoming the sixth player in Nationals history (2005-pres.) to post 100 RBI in a season (most recently 1B Adam Laroche 100, 2012).
In 14 games vs. NYM this year, Nationals 2B Daniel Murphy has hit .418 with seven
home runs and 21 RBI, while collecting at least one hit in every game...Via the Elias Sports
Bureau, not since Roger Maris drove in 27 runs for NYY against KC (Athletics) in 1960
