Sand Springs Elks News

Sand Springs Elks Lodge #2553

Letter From the Exalted Ruler

Dear Fellow Elks,
Wow, it is already September. Where did the summer go? One good think about it is; football season is here and the nice
cooler weather is right around the corner. With the football season here, I would like to try something to raise a little money for Oklahoma State Major Projects. We always have our football squares; so, I think we could always utilize any proceeds to go towards this program. If you have any other ideas, please bring them up. This is something I would like us to
be more involved with. We really havent participated in this very much. Anything is better than what we have done in the
past. The OK State Major Projects help provide funds for programs like: Oklahoma Special Olympics, Cadet Lawman Academy, and the Skys the Limit Ranch.
I was just informed the other day of some good news for our Lodge and our local schools. We were awarded a Beacon Grant.
This grant is going to provide us with $2000 to go to a new, reoccurring project that we participate in annually. The members got together and decided that if we could get this grant, we would get involved with our local schools and provide school
supplies to the teachers and children in need. Year after year the schools budgets keep shrinking, making it hard for our
teachers to provide a good learning environment. Any help we can give will be greatly beneficial. This will be in addition to
our $2500 Gratitude Grant we get every year for our ENF contributions. Both of these grants are basically free money from
the Grand Lodge and are great examples on how our great organization gives back to the communities. Add this $4500 to
the other fundraisers we do and we are really making a difference. If all the lodges across the nation would take advantage
of just one grant; imagine the impact it would have.
Please remember these important dates that will be here before you know it. The Fall State Convention will be the weekend of September 9th at Sequoyah State Park. Last I heard, there were still some rooms available. So, come on out and
have some fun with us. We will be having our Annual Margaretville Party on September 24th. Please come out and enjoy
some good seafood and fellowship. It will be $20 per person. All you can eat. There will be special drink prices as well.
There will be another Paint Party on October 22nd. If you didnt get to come out and enjoy it last time, you wont want to
miss it. Everyone had a fantastic time. We are also having a craft show on Saturday October 29th. It will open at 9:00am
and registrations will begin at 6:45am. If you would like some booth space please contact the lodge.
As always, come out to a meeting to see what all is going on. There are good things happening. Come out and see us at the
lodge also. Bring a friend with you to show them what we are all about. Lets show people that we are way more than a
lounge. I truly believe if more people knew about all the good we do, the more members we will gain which will ultimately
make us a more successful Elks Lodge. I look forward to seeing you up there.
PS. We had to spend quite a bit of money getting one of our AC units fixed in August; so, if anyone would like to make a
donation or help with a fundraiser to help cover the expenses; it would be appreciated.
Your Exalted Ruler,
Braden Bush
