intro:

A ball bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to maintain

the separation between the bearing races.
its purpose is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads.
It achieves this by using at least two races to contain the balls and transmit
the loads through the balls.
440c has the highest carbon content from 400 stainless steel series. They are us
ually heat treated to reach hardnes of 58-60 HRC
52100 alloy steel is a high carbon, chromium containing low alloy steel that is
through hardening
Bearing ring and roller material
common (best) material = high carbon chromium
High carbon chromium
-Corrosion resistance
-Hardenability = Hardenable by heat treatment up to the core
-Magnetism
-Passivation = Protected by rush preventive oils
Other material = carburized bearing steel, hard resistance bearing steel, abrasi
on and corrosive resistance bearing steel
Carburized steel
-Increased wear resistance
-Increased fatigue/tensile strengths
-Increased surface hardness
Hard resistance bearing steel, etc
-Self explanatory
Bearing balls material:
plastic, ceramic(Common materials include: silicon nitride and zirconium oxide.)
Plastic
-lightweight
-corrosion resistance
-shock load suppression
-lubrication free
ceramic
-lower maintenance cost
-longer service life
-reduce wear from vibration
-extend grease life
bearing cage material
non ferrous metal = brass, bronze, aluminium alloy
ferrous metal quality carbon steel tin plate
non metal = engineering nylon, phenolic adhesive
carboon steel
-low cost
-operate at high speed
-no corrosion resistance
-no more
Bearing ring, bearing balls process by forging (aka blank processing)

-to obtain the semi finish ring which is similar with the bearing so as to enhan
ce the efficiency of metal and reduce the mechanical machining work, and at last
to save the cost of production.
-to eliminate the inner defect of metal, improve metal organize system, so as to
make the metal be with proper streamlined distrubution and with good compactnes
s, at last to enhance the life span of bearings
Type of forging
- hot forging = metal is heated to the above the crystallization temperature (wi
dely used)
Semi finished bearing ring and roller process by turning (aka forming process)
-to make the bearing ring and roller be the same shape with the finished product
s
-to create good condition for the coming grinding processing
Types of turning
= Integrated processing, used to finish all the turning procedure in one machine
-- suitable for small quantity production
= Distributed processing, used to finish only one turning procedure in one machi
ne -- suitable for large quantity production
Enhancing the bearing inner quality by heat treatment process
-to change the material structure through heat treatment so as to enhance its me
chanical performance
-to enhance the hearing inner quality (abrasive rsistance, toughness, etc), so a
s to enhance the bearing life span
Final process of bearing ring and roller by grinding (finished product processin
g)
-to make the bearing ring and roller be in accordance with the design requiremen
ts in size and shape precision
-to prepare qualified rings and rollers for bearing assembly
Final process of bearing manufacturing by bearing assembly (has important effect
to the bearing performance)
-to assemble the finished components (out rings, inner rings, rollers and cages)
into finished bearings
-to assemble the finished components into a variety of precisions, clearance and
special requirements of bearings according to the different technological requi
rements
