Foreword:
Hi everyone, especially math majors!
I compile these tutorials from one forum thread in Symbianize.com which I think can help you
to Pass the LET Exam thru mastering (if possible) your best tool that you have during the Exam,
that is your scientific calculator. The most common, one of the allowable and the best calculator
that you should have is CASIO fx-991 ES PLUS. CASIO fx-991 ES PLUS has a lot of functions which
are very helpful to you during exam days. Familiarizing or if possible mastering this kind of
Scientific Calculator can be a great asset during LET exam. Somehow, These tutorials used
CASIO fx-991 ES which is just a little bit different from CASIO fx-991 ES PLUS.
I really hope you will learn a lot from this tutorial and hoping to see your name in LET Passers..
Go TEACHERS!
Note: I maintain its style and content from the original source. To see the original source of this

Hello Symbianizers
Today, I will teach you the Calculator technique use to solve Math problems.
In this tutorial I will be using CASIO fx-991 ES. So don't ask me on how to do it
in other calculator.
Moreover, I will not cover the CASIO fx-991 ES PLUS although, some of you think
its the same,
I say to you it's different in someway or in some functions especially in STAT
MODE.
This is good and very helpful especially in Board Exam and in some school na

Requirement in this MATH CALCU tutorial:

1. Basic knowledge in math( You cannot understand it if you don't know the
basics..Mostly shorcuts ito kaya you should know the basic..)
2. CASIO FX-991 ES with the manual
3. Read your manual(all the functions and definiton of each will be found in the
manual)
4. Brain/Common Sense
Fx-991 ES Plus

Ok lets get it on!

2: A+BX is for Arithmetic Progression( A.P.)..

May makikita kayo X and Y column..And X column natin ay ang nth term while
sa Y column natin ay ang A.P..
Which mean the 1st term of the A.P. is 1, 2nd term is 3 and 3rd term is
7..
4. Therefore, type 15Y-hat..
Ang Y-hat ay makikita when you press SHIFT>1(STAT)>7(Reg)>5(Y-hat)..while
ang X-hat ay makikita when you press SHIFT>1(STAT)>7(Reg)>4(X-hat)..take

40. What is the present worth of two 10,000 pesos payment at the end of the 3rd and 4th year if
the annual interest is 8% compounded quarterly?
A. P 15, 169
B. P 15, 288
C. P 16, 721
D. P 17, 264
Code:
Ang formula po talaga nito ay
where:
F = future worth
P = present worth
i = interest rate
m = number of compounding(quarterl, semi-anually, annually etc)
t = time(years,month, days, etc)
Kung alam niyo kung paano computin sa long method, then go.. :D
Then ito po yung sa CALCU TECHNIQUE:
First kukunin natin ang P ng 3rd and 4th year. So unahin natin si 3rd
year. gets?..
STAT 5 or 6
Y column =
----- X ----- | ----- Y --------12 ----- | 10,000
----13 ----- | 1.02(10,000)
bakit po 12? kasi mt=(4)(3)
bakit po 13? kasi next year. +1 year gets?..
formula on the next year.
Then get the present worth:
Second, kukunin natin ang present worth sa 4th year. Same lang din ito sa
3rd year. Ang pinagkaiba lang yung mt..
----- X ----- | ----- Y ---------16----- | 10,000
-----17----- | 1.02(10,000)
Then get the present worth:
Finally get the sum of the present worth in the 3rd year and 4th year. And

Same lang sa #14.
16. Find the partial derivatives with respect to x of the function
A. y^2 - 5
B. y^2
C. xy-5y
D. 2xy
Mag-iisip ka ng value ng y and then kapag dinirivative mo, equal
siya dun sa value ng y.
For example, y = 4.

16x-14.

kasi y = 4 and y^2 = 16.

same with #18.
20. Find C so that the line y = 4x + 3 is tangent to the curve y = x^2 + C.
A. 4
B. 5
C. 6
D. 7
Remember:
m1=m2 (tangent/parallel)
m1= -1/m2 (normal/perpendicular)
And y=4x+3 should be tangent to y=x^2+C
First, get the first derivative or slope of y=4x+3.
Use d/dx with x=1, therefore the slope is 4.
equate y' = y'
(y=4x+3) = (y=x^2+C)
4 = 2x
and x = 2. Then get the value of y from y=4x+3
y = 11. Therefore, our pt is (2,11)
Substitute this to Y = x^2 + C to get the value of C.
