INVITATION FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR SUPPLY OF

WORK ROLLS TO ROLLING MILLS OF RASHTRIYA ISPAT NIGAM
LIMTED INDIA
Introduction :
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, an integrated steel plant under Rashtriya Ispat Nigam
ltd , India is a steel producer of various long products. Presently, the Rolling Mill
Division consists of Light & Medium Merchant Mill (LMMM), Wire Rod Mill (WRM)
and Medium Merchant & Structural Mill (MMSM).
The blooms of sizes 320 X 250 mm, 250 X 250 mm and billets of size 125X125 mm
are re-heated in reheating furnaces and rolled in LMMM, MMSM and WRM to
produce Rounds & Rebars of sizes from 16 to 36 mm, Rounds 40 to 80 mm, Squares
65 to 90 mm, Angles ISA 75 to 100 mm, Beams ISMB 125 to 175 mm, Channels
ISMC 100 to 200 mm and Round & Rebar coils of sizes from 5.5 mm to 14 mm. For
rolling of these products, work Rolls of different sizes and various materials like
Alloy Forged Steel, Alloy Cast steel and Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron with hardness
range of 40 SHC to 75 SHC are being used.
At present, an approx. weight of 1200 tons of ACS&SGCI work rolls per
annum is being procured and the requirement is likely to increase with the
commissioning of expansion mills in the coming years.
In order to broaden the supplier-base, Expression of Interest (EOI) is being invited
from reputed rolling mill work roll manufactures who are interested in supplying
the proposed 14 types of ACS/SGCI work rolls as per Technical Specifications
(ANNEXURE - II )and special instructions enclosed at ANNEXURE - I to RINL.

ANNEXURE I
Special instructions :
Note: The following Special instructions (Sl.no. 1 to 6 ) are applicable to all the
14 items and Sl.no. 7,8 &9 are applicable w.r.t to the items mentioned :
1) Flat wobblers to be strictly concentric with roll neck journals.
2) Rolls to be suitably packed and numbered for identity.
3) The rolls shall be guaranteed against manufacturing defects such as
blow holes.cavity, Non-metallic inclusions, pipe segregation, cracks,
hard spots, flakes etc., which may adversely affect their service life.
4) Should any roll fail prematurely or give sub-standard performance due
to the above defects, the suppliers shall rectify the defects at their cost
wherever possible to the entire satisfaction of VSP or make prorata
compensation or make full replacement if the roll has been rejected before
use.
5) The rolls are also to be guaranteed for the roll set life as mentioned in the
technical specification of each item or 5 years from the date of supply to
VSP which ever is earlier.
6) These rolls are used in hot rolling mill.
7) Hardness test of end ring shall be done and certified for Item nos. 1&2 .
8) Ultrasonic, UTS & Elongation tests shall be done and certified for Item
nos.3,9,10&11.
9) The microstructure should be free from continuous network of carbides
along the grain boundaries for Item nos. 3,9,10&11
