PERSONAL STATEMENT
Building genuine relationships is at the heart of my teaching practice, which forms the foundation of my servant
leadership style. This is achieved through love and acceptance for each individual as I serve and care for the
community I lead.
MY TEACHING ARATOHU
I am passionate about building relationships with my students. Trust is an essential component of effective
learning and teaching. This is built primarily through relationship and working together. I carry a great sense of
responsibility to genuinely care for those entrusted to me.
I see my students as unique individuals, each with something worthwhile to contribute to the learning
environment. I especially value cultural diversity and enjoy integrating Te Reo maori and other languages into
my classroom. I am excited about using a range of digital technologies to support 21st century learners.
Each child has the ability to exceed their own expectations of self if they are stretched and supported. The
learning environment must be positive for them to be motivated to learn. I am committed to learning about the
interests of my students, to discovering their best ways of learning, and taking genuine interest in their whanau.
Whanau is a core contributor to the overall classroom environment. I believe that a child can achieve better
results at school if their home life is well connected to their school life. I encourage constant and open
communication with home, and regular visits to their childs classroom is warmly welcomed.
As a colleague, I am intentional, teachable, professional and organised. I am able to work effectively in both
collaborative and single cell environments. Working ahead of schedule is the best preparation I can provide for
my students. Thorough and methodical planning are also paramount to my best teaching practice. Record
keeping and ongoing formative assessment inform my planning.
The underpinning intention for all that I do in the classroom is to add value to each student and to pursue
excellence.
