List 2.

1: Final Blends with Short Vowels

Dear Parents,

In spelling this week, we are still reviewing short vowels with consonant blends.
The difference is that the blends are at the end of the word. All of the same
principles apply, but the pattern is a CVCC- consonant, vowel, blended
consonants. Remember this pattern will still usually make the vowel short like in
the words left, risk, and went. The consonant blends students may encounter this
week include:
nd

mp

nk

sk

ld

ft

lt

lp

st

lk

nt

sp

Students should complete the necessary activities for the assigned words to be
turned in by Friday. If it helps them, students can also choose to sort their words
by cutting them out and sorting them by their short vowel sound. This would be
even more beneficial if someone called out the words and the student decided
which short vowel was in the word (so they dont just see the vowel as a hint).
My Pattern Words to Study:
1. land
6. list
2. left
7. cost
3. desk
8. soft
4. held
9. milk
5. help
10. melt

If there are words that your child does not know, you can try incorporating the
words into the dialogue you have with your child and they will remember them
better. This will also help their speaking, reading, and writing vocabulary.
