Government

Executive Branch
It is led by the Prime Minister and the Cabinet and is made up of a collection of
about a hundred ministers who carry out the laws made by Parliament and who
run the government and the country day-to-day.

Legislative Branch
bicameral Parliament consists of House of Lords; note membership is not fixed
House of Lords: Be made up of the Lords Spiritual.The main function of the
House of Lords is to bring the wide experience of its members into the process of
lawmaking. In other words, the non-elected House is to act as a chamber of
revision complementing but not rivaling the elect House.
House of CommonsBe elected by universal adult suffrage. It is in the
House of commons that ultimate authority. The party which holds the majority of
seats in the House of Commons form the government, its leader acting as the
Prime Minister.

Judiciary
The judiciary of the United Kingdom are the separate judiciaries of the three legal
systems in England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. However, the
judges of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, the Special Immigration
Appeals Commission, Employment Tribunals, Employment Appeal Tribunal and
the UK tribunals system do have a United Kingdom-wide jurisdiction.

Voting/Electoral System
Britain is divided 646 constituencies,each of the constituencies returns one
member to the House of Commons. A General Election must be held every five
years and is often held at more frequent intervals
There are six types of elections in the United Kingdom: United Kingdom general elections, elections to
devolved parliaments and assemblies, elections to the European Parliament, local elections, mayoral
elections and Police and Crime Commissioner elections. Elections are held on Election Day, which is
conventionally a Thursday. Since the passing of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 for general
elections, all six types of elections are held after fixed periods, though early elections to parliament and
the devolved assemblies and parliaments can occur in certain situations. Currently, six electoral systems
are used: the single member plurality system (first past the post), the multi member plurality system,
party-list proportional representation, the single transferable vote, the additional member system and the
supplementary vote.

Two Parties
Britain has a number of parties, but there are only two major parties
These two parties are the conservative Party and the Labor Party. Since
1945, either the Conservative party or the Labor Party has held power.
The party which wins sufficient seats at a General Election to command a
majority of Government. The leader of the majority party is appointed
Prime MInister. The Party which wins the second largest number of seats
becomes the Official Opposition, with its own leader and shadow
cabinet.The rule of Opposition is to help the formulation of policy.
