A much anticipated feature of the Argenta fair is the arrival of the Honey Truck.

stage is set for the
fairs finale. Everyone
gathers in a circle and,
in the middle of a field,

the Pass Creek Fall Fair, your day just gets

main event that will wow the crowds will
be the Global FMX Extreme Motocross
show. New this year are horse-drawn
carriage rides and on Sunday a motorcycle Show n Shine. Boogie to Blue Crush
at the family dance on Saturday, 5 8pm.
This is a great place to show kids what
rural living is all about, to become familiar with farm animals big and small and
even to take the controls of a mini-excavator or Bobcat. Check their website

This last fair of the West Kootenay fall
festival season is a celebration of all
that is terrific about the people and the
land in the Salmo River Valley. Start the
day off right with the Salmo Childrens
Centre Barnyard Breakfast. Then head
to the Youth Centre, the vibrant hub of
this area. Check out the skate jam indoors if its rainy and outside if it is nice.
The kids will have fun participating in
old-fashioned games, farmers will be
displaying local produce and there will
be vendors of fine crafts from all over.
The Salmo Valley is home to many musicians and the live music throughout the
day will keep that festival vibe hopping.
For the 4th year running, young artists
will be painting spontaneous works of
art outside, in public. The finished panels will be on display for the duration of
Art Walk. The Salmo Snow Ghosts Ski
Team will be hosting a ski swap, there
will be face painting and of course, lots
of great fair food!

Memories Matter
Looking for a way to make a difference? The countrys biggest fundraiser for Alzheimers disease and other
dementias needs volunteers in Nelson.
The fun and family friendly Investors Group Walk for
Alzheimers is looking for a volunteer to chair Nelsons
2017 Walk, which takes place on the first Sunday of May.
Other volunteer positions also need to be filled.
Its estimated that 70,000 British Columbians live with
Alzheimers or another dementia and that number is
expected to more than double in the next generation.
Julie Leffelaar, the Support and Education coordinator for
the non-profit Alzheimer Society of BC for Nelson and the
West Kootenay region, says the walk plays an important role
in helping local residents and caregivers whose lives have
affected by dementia. People who volunteer can make a
real difference in Nelson. Its so satisfying for them to know
that the funds raised here help support the programs and
services of the Alzheimer Society of BC in our community.
The 2016 Walk in Nelson raised $16,317. Next years
walk needs a passionate and committed chair who will be
responsible for leading a local committee of other volunteers. There is no better feeling than sharing a common
cause with a group of volunteers, Rodgers says.
The Alzheimer Society of BC provides in-depth training, resources and ongoing support, to ensure committee
leaders have the best event experience possible. I always
tell people who are interested in joining a walk committee
that its like baking a cake, Rodgers says. You have a recipe to follow. Gather the needed ingredients together in the
right order. Mix in the proper order. Follow the method.
Bake at the right temperature for the right amount of time
and you will have results. It is just that easy!
Candidates for the chair position should have some
organizational skills, live or work in Nelson and be enthusiastic, driven and community-minded. Other volunteers
may also be needed to serve on the walk committee. If you
