Beach birds

1-Snowy Plover
Characteristics
The snowy plover is 1517 cm long. It is pale, long legged and blends in
with the colour of the sand.

Habitat
It usually inhabits the higher, dryer beach where it searches for tiny
crustaceans and insects in the sand to feed on. Snowy plovers are found
throughout the beaches and coastlines of United States

Feeding habits
Snovy Plovers feed on tiny crustaceans and insects in the sand. Like
other plovers, it runs and stops abruptly to capture its prey

2-Willets
Characteristics
Willets are large, stocky shorebirds with long legs and thick, straight
bills considerably longer than the head. Their wings are broader and
rounder than those of many shorebirds and the tail is short and
squared off at the base.
Willets are grey or brown birds that, when flying, display a striking
and black stripe along each wing.

Feeding habits
Willets are often seen alone. They walk deliberately, pausing to probe for crabs,
worms and other prey in sand and mudflats, or to pick at
insects and
mollusks. When startled, they react with a piercing call,
often
opening their wings and running rather than taking flight .

Habitat
In winter, Willets feed on beaches and rocky coasts,
as well as mudflats and marshes. During breeding
season the western population moves far inland to
nest in grasslands and prairies near freshwater.
Eastern Willets breed in coastal saltmarshes and on
barrier beaches and islands.

Functions of trees
Root

Roots originate from the lower portion of a plant and they are in the soil. Their functions are to
absorb nutrients and moisture, anchor the plant in the soil, support the stem, and store food such
as carrots. In some plants, they can be used for propagation.
Leaves
Leaves provide trees with all their food because they
turn sunlight into food energy through photosynthesis.
Leaves also make the oxygen in the air that we breathe.
Flowers
Flowers generally are the showiest part of a plant. Their
beauty and fragrance attract pollinators (insects or birds)
that play an important role in the reproductive process.

Trunk.
The trunk is the highway, or main distribution
route, transporting water and nutrients from the
roots and crown to the entire tree.
Fruit
Fruit is the fleshy structure of certain plants that may be sweet and edible in the raw state, such
as apples, oranges, grapes etc. It also consists of seeds which are for propagation of plant. The
seed contain food which supplies energy and materials for growth until the plant grows its first
leaves above the ground.

Threats

Beachbirds can been impacted by a variety of man-made sources, including oil spills, gill-net and
other fisheries, various contaminants, habitat destruction, introduced predators, and human
disturbance
In addition beach trees can be destroyed by soil erosion and natural disasters like tsnumani.
