Describe the features of three-dimensional objects (ACMMG043)
Specific Lesson Learning Goals (What will the students learn during this particular lesson?)
1.

The students will demonstrate the ability to identify and describe the features of a 3D shape used in the box
construction activity.

Students Prior Knowledge:

Students are aware of the different types of 3D shapes.
Preparation: (classroom layout, resources, groupings)
3D shape song 3D Shapes song & 3D shapes
3D shape presentation & Assessment sheets
Box construction activity worksheet.
Assignment/ Project task Worksheet for each student.
Loose parts boxes, cylinders etc
Glue, Sticky tape, scissors, rough paper and plastic covers.
Students will be divided into 4 groups of 5.One group could have an extra student.

minutes

Lesson Progression
Introduction :
The teacher and the students will discuss the 3D shapes- faces, edges and corners.
After which the Teacher will hand out to the students the assignment sheets.
The students will be divided into 4 groups of 5.
The teacher will show students some examples of box construction activities and
will ask them to identify the shapes.
Brain break
Lesson Progression :
The teacher will read out the assignment sheet contents. The teacher and the
students will discuss the purpose of the box construction activity.
Activity : Box Construction Activity
The students will be divided into groups. The groups will choose a leader. The
students will select the parts they would like to use in their box construction
activity. They will note down the part on their worksheets.
The students will design the object they want to create.
Conclusion :

15 mins

The teacher will give instructions to the students to pack away the materials. They
will be encouraged to make sign boards which say Work in Progress .
The teacher and the students will discuss together the shapes they have used as part
of the box construction activity.
