Orchestra has engaged the pianist, Valentina Lisitsa, a virulent and
unapologetic racist [a] whose public hate speech targets blacks [b], Jews
[c], and gays [d], to name just a few As the Toronto Symphony
Orchestra so shrewdly discerned, no one in its audiences, or on its board,
or in its performing ensemble, or in the far broader reach of its radio
broadcasts, should be expected to support an event that features a racist;
[e] nor should they be made to feel uncomfortable. ... Even more
appalling is that Decca Records and its executives knew of her
[Lisitsas] reputation as a racist and hate monger [f], but signed her up
in spite of it. Our position, on the contrary, is that such irresponsible
public hate mongering cannot and must not be separated from her public

trust and civic responsibility We have also been in touch with national
and local chapters of the Anti Defamation League, Bnai Brith, the

is the course of action that best serves its interests. We do not presume to
tell it what that may be. We can only prevail upon it to do the right thing
and annul the racist Lisitsas [s] engagement In addition to your
organization, we have also reached out to local broadcast and print media
in Ohio, as well as those in the locations of other venues that have
engaged her. We have also been in touch with national and local chapters
of the Anti Defamation League, Bnai Brith, the NAACP, and LGBT so
as to advise them of Lisitsas racist remarks and rancorous, inciteful hate
