FIRST LESSON (PRIMERA LECCIN)

In English, you can to use the same verb (to be) to indicate I am
a student or I am in the kitchen. In Spanish, you can`t do it. You
have two verbs to refere I am:
Yo soy (ser) or Yo estoy (estar)
You can to use the verb ser to talk about your personal charasteristics:

Esteban or Soy Esteban (I am Esteban)

un hombre or Soy un hombre (I am a man)
un estudiante or Soy un estudiante (I am a student)
un economista or Soy un economista (I am a economist)
alto or Soy alto (I am tall)
delgado or Soy delgado (I am thin)

but you must to use the verb estar to indicate your location and what
are you doing:
For Location:
Yo estoy en la cocina (I am in the kitchen)
(I am = yo estoy / in = en / the = la, kitchen = cocina)
Yo estoy en San Jos (I am in San Jos)
Yo estoy en la universidad (I am at University)
What are you doing?:
Yo estoy aprendiendo espaol (I am learning Spanish)
Yo estoy comiendo (I am eating)
Yo estoy bebiendo (I am drinking)
Yo estoy escribiendo (I am writing)
Remember: The English present continuous I am learning (Personal
pronoum +verb to be + present participle) is translated, in Spanish, as: Yo
estoy aprendiendo.
