8:15-8:45

Meet students at the door and greet them.


They take their outdoor shoes off, place them on the boot rack (no
specific order or spots) and put their indoor shoes on.
They walk to class, take their jackets off and hang up backpacks.
Once in the classroom, students take out their home reading books,
agendas and any forms from the office and put it in front of them on
their tables (some need reminders).
Have students settle in their seats. They can sit anywhere a red shirt is
present.
Let students know that they are to wait for further instruction before
writing anything on their notebooks.
Wait for announcements. Take attendance.
Work on classroom rules and expectations:
Bring students to the carpet.

Class rules:
Raise your hand if you want to speak
2 kinds of listening:
o Stop and Look Up Here: Students freeze, put whatever they are
holding down and look at the speaker. This is important.
o Continue working but listen: Students dont have to freeze but
everyone should be quiet and listening. This is less important and
about what the students are doing.
Be respectful of your classmates. When someone is speaking, you are
quiet. Spread good feelings.
Everything in the classroom is shared. Nothing belongs to just one
person except our writing journal, math journal and art journals.
At line-up times, the students will be in alphabetical order.
No doodling on notebooks.
Do not destroy things: pencils, erasers, notebooks or agendas.

8:45-9:15

Have students write their names on the journals. Demonstrate tall and
short letters on the board before. Go around and the journals to see which
ones neat and erase those that are not.
Math
Introduce self to class and work together on the Figure Me Out on the
board simple addition/subtraction.

Have students work on their own Figure Me Out and exchange them with
partners.
Some students may share theirs with the class.
*Encourage Happy and Anjali since they are new.
*If time, introduce Meiko and the Fifth Treasure with the students.
Read book.*
Show students their line-up.
Snack at 10:00am. At 9:55am, ask students to wash their hands and go
the bathroom if needed. Then they can grab only 1 healthy snack from
their lunch and sit down at their tables. They cannot walk around while
eating their snack, but they are allowed to chat with their neighbors.
At 10:10am, ask them to throw away garbage, put snacks away, get
ready for recess and get lined up at the door. If it is cold, make sure all
students have jackets, hats, mits, etc. They are not allowed back
inside if they forget.
Encourage students to invite Anjali and Happy to play at recess since
they are new.
Recess
Prepare paint for after recess.
Students must be outside at recess unless they have choir, Me to We, or
Peer Helpers.
Art
Paint our families.
Have students put on their paint shirts.
Demonstrate proper painting.
Light touch. Dont need to wash the paint off paintbrushes.
Demonstrate not needing to use proper colors.
As students finish, they can clean up their station, grab a book off the
back shelves and read.
DiscoLand with all grade 4s for gym outside.
At 11:55am, ask students to wash their hands and go to the bathroom if
needed. Then they can grab their lunches and start to eat.
Lunch
Supervision will always be in our room. Walk around and chat with the
students while they eat.
At 12:15, let students know they only have a few minutes left and ask
them to throw away garbage, put lunches away, get ready for recess and
get lined up at the door. If it is cold, make sure all students have jackets,
hats, mits, etc. They are not allowed back inside if they forget.
Lunch Recess
Some students may be in choir, Me to We, Peer Helpers or intramurals.
Everyone else must be outside.
Prepare magazines for Mieko and the Fifth Treasure

Re-Entry
Gather students from outside. They must walk quietly throughout the
school.
Once they hang up their coats from outside, they must grab a book and
sit down quietly.
Read Mieko and the Fifth Treasure.
Guiding Questions:
Who are the characters weve been introduced to so far?
What do we know about the characters?
What do we feel about the characters as of now? What makes us feel that
way?
Take out magazines and cut and glue the letters to form the names of the
characters we have met so far in Mieko and the Fifth Treasure.
Work on I Want to Know about You!
At 2:15pm, have students take out their agendas. Write a paragraph on
the board about what happened during the day and any notes from the
office.
Once finished, students will take out a book and read while you check their
agenda message. If there are any mistakes or the message is messy, circle
or erase and have the student fix it. If the message is fine and students
have written their home reading book in their agenda, initial and the
student can put their agenda in the backpacks, put on their jackets and
wait at the door for dismissal.
Dismissal
Students may leave from the classroom, change their shoes and leave the
building through their door only. No students may walk through the school;
they must walk around.
