Extended Chords

The majority of the chords you have used in the Junior Cert are in basic triad form.
We can colour a chord to give it a richer flavour by adding in extra notes. This is
called Extended chord notation.
You will know its an extended chord because you will see a number after the chord
symbol.
Example:
7

In the key of C, G means it is the triad of G with the 7th note above added in.
What is the 7th note above G? ______________________

The Five Seven

The chord of V is a strong chord because it always struggles to pull you back to
________ to make a ________________ cadence.
To make this even more powerful you can add in the 7th note (this works because that
7th note wants to fall to one of the notes in the tonic/do triad/ Chord of I. Its like
when Ti always wants to go back to ___________.
Have a listen to Hey Jude by the Beatles and follow the extract provided.
Q1. What key is it in? ________________________________________
Q2. Write the Roman Numerals over the Chords (for the 1st 3 lines only)

Q4. What is the extra note added to V? _________________ (Circle it in the bar).
