Department of Preparing Arabic Teachers for Non-Native
Speakers
First: General Information
- Name of the program: Preparation of Arabic Teachers for Non-Native
Speakers
- Total credit hours: (160)
- Name of the degree: a Bachelor in Teaching Arabic for Non-Native
Speakers.

Second: Vision, Mission and Aims


The Vision: Leadership and excellence in the preparation of
specialists to teach Arabic for Non-native speakers.
The Mission: Preparation and training of specialists in teaching
Arabic for Non-native speakers.
The Aims:
a. Preparation of specialized teachers in teaching Arabic to Nonnative speakers.
b. Developing the efficacy of faculty members at the department.
c. Establishment of training courses in the field of teaching Arabic
language and Islamic culture inside and outside the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia.
d. To exchange of expertise and partnerships with the competent
authorities.
e. To conduct scientific research in the field of Applied Linguistics.
f. To provide programs to prepare teachers of Arabic language to
non-native speakers from a distance.

g. To provide post graduate programs specializing in the field of


Applied Linguistics.

Third: Requirements for Admission to the Program:


1. The student must be a Muslim (where the headquarters of the Institute
within the Haram al-Sharif).
2. He must have a certificate in (language teaching) an estimate of at least
very good.
3. He must have a certificate of general secondary if Arabic was his
mother tongue and an estimate of at least very good.
4. To pass the tests prescribed by the department.
5. Not having a disability limiting contact with the others.

Fourth: The advantages of the program


1. After a student finishes the program successfully, he gets a "Bachelor's
degree in teaching Arabic for non-native speakers".
2. The program provides faculty members with competence, and high
scientific efficiency.
3. The program balances between the three aspects of teacher preparation:
the linguistic domain, the educational domain, and the domain of Islamic
culture.
4. The program provides training in the field -in both the fourth and
eighth levels- to teach Arabic for non-native speakers, where students are
trained to:
- Prepare and implement lessons effectively and efficiently.
- Use teaching methods, teaching techniques and appropriate learning
activities.
- Distribute time among different elements of the lesson, and administrate
the classroom in a good way.
- Use different types of the evaluation methods.

5. The program uses teaching strategies and modern teaching techniques.


6. The program provides social welfare and academic counseling to
students.
7. The program is under development for Academic Accreditation.
8. The program qualifies graduate to work as a teacher of Arabic
language to non-native speakers, also allows him to work in the
translation from Arabic to his mother tongue, or editing in newspapers
and the like, giving him the opportunity to work in Embassies and
Cultural Attachs and media.
9. The program prepares graduate for admission to the masters program
and then a doctorate in teaching Arabic for non-native speakers, as well
as in the areas of Islamic Call (Da'wa) and the Islamic Sharia.
10. The department currently works on a new plan to suit the
development of teaching Arabic for non-native speakers.
The department currently puts on the master's and doctoral programs in
teaching Arabic for non-native speakers.

Fifth:Graduation requirements and academic plan


To be graduated, a student must complete successfully (160) credit hours
at eight levels for four years. The number of modules ranges in between
each level (19 - 21) study unit.
The study plan is provided to the Department of preparation of Arabic
language teachers at the Institute of Teaching Arabic for Non-native
Speakers as follows:
