Motivation Letter

Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Firdha Cahya Alam. I am master student in Institut Teknologi Bandung, majoring
Environmental Engineering, with specialty in Environmental Management and Technology. I am
an optimistic person who passionate in improving environmental quality and management
system in my country, so I am taking Environmental Management Technology to understand
more and implement the knowledge in the society.
As an Indonesian citizen, especially Bandung countryside citizen, since my childhood I often saw
many kinds of polluted environment. For example, the river with textile industries waste, garbage
that being dumped to the river, and a really poor sanitation of people that lived along the
riverside. Those conditions of my own living place make me wonder how to solve the problems,
so I chose Environmental Engineering as my graduate study and I have a plan to make a thesis
about my village, specialty in water problems.
To support my intentions, I have already taken course related to environmental management,
such as Environmental System Conservation, Design for Environment, Waste Reuse and Recycle,
and Sustainable Water Management. In addition, this Sustainable Water Management course is
held by four country, Indonesia, Iran, Egypt, and include Germany.
As a dreamer, I never surrender to always increase my knowledge to be a professional
environmentalist. I am joining online course called Environmental Education: trans-disciplinary
approaches to addressing wicked problem which is provided by many universities around the
world to also learn how to tackle environmental problem from different perspective. But I know,
I still need to learn more and look the environmental problem directly in other country and how
they tackled it. And I saw the information about DAAD Serial Summer School: Freshwater
Ecosystem in Urban Systems in University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany 19 30 September 2016
as a brilliant opportunity to gain much knowledge directly from the expertise with world class
capacity.
This Summer School program will discuss about impact of different water and waste water
management strategies on urban freshwater ecosystem. As my background from Chemistry and
Environmental Engineering with my intentions to increase environmental quality in my region,
make me believe that I am suitable for the Summer School program.
I hope I can get much knowledge from the summer school and that can be implemented in my
region especially, and generally in Indonesia.
