Alignment of generator
Note
The assembly instructions given herein are of a general
nature, Please se also the binding drawings and other
Instructions.
General
Correct alignment of the generator rotor with respect to
the turbine rotor is the most important prerequisite for
satisfactory operation of the turboset. The two shafts must
be aligned along the Tine of their natural deflection,
Alignment of the generator rotor relative to an already
cligned turbine shaft should be performed by @
corresponding shifting of the generator housing, The
measurements In axial and radial direction required for the
coupling check should be taken at the turbine and gonera-
tor coupling flanges. By moans of this coupling chieck it ean
be determined to which extent the generator requires
lifting, lowering or shifting in loteral direction,
Note:
‘At each check measurement, the stator must be firmly
bolted to the machine sole plates or to the foundation,
respectively.
3. Preparatory work
3.1. Securing the lower bearing sleeves
During the alignment work, the generator rotor must be
rotated several times by means of the power house crane,
with the upper bearing slesves not yet installed, For
preventing a rotation of the fower bearing sleeves while the
generator rotor is being turned, the bearing sleeves must be
Secured by holding lugs, These holding lugs should be
manufactured at tha site and firmly bolted to the joint
surfaces of the boaring saddles,

Caution:
When fitting the holding lugs, be sure to observe the
direction of rotetion of the rotor. With anticlockwise
rotation, the holding !ugs should be fitted on the right-hand
side and with clockwise rotation on the leftshand side wien
looking from the turbine in direction of the generator.
3.2 Lubricating the bearings
For turing the shafts by means of the power house
crane, 2 high-viscosity mineral oil (cylinder oil) should be
used as lubricant,
Important:
Fill the oil into the oil groove provided in direction of
rotation,

‘The shatt journals should be protected against dust and
dirt by means of suitably shaped stee! or pressboerd covers.
Never use cleaning rags, plastic sheeting, paper or similar
materials, sinoa they may be caught during turning of the
‘oikwetted shaft and drawn into the lubricating gap.
For overcoming the breakaway torque or the static
friction in case of heavy shafts, the usa of jacking oil pump
sets will be indispenseble if the existing stationary jacking
ol pump has not yet been installed.
4. Aligning the generator rotor relative
to the stator core
“The concentric arrangement of the generator rotor in the
stator bore is predetermined at the manufacturers’ works
‘and maintained by providing dowel ping in the lower half
enclosing ends. The air gap between rotor body and stator

the permissible tolerance limits,
‘The axial position of the generator rotor with respect to
the ‘stator core is likewise predetermined during the
preliminary assembly at the manufacturers’ works. For
Fotor position where the rotor body is in en axially
symmetrical position relative to the stator care (cold
condition), the distance between coupling face and
‘machined flange surface for the outer labyrinth ring at the
lower alt TE enclosing end should be measurad and
‘punch-maried adjacent to the measuring point at the lower
half enclosing end. When determining the axial rotor
position, the bar gauge should always be placed on
‘machined surfaces,

The punch-markod dimension indicates the axial rotor
position without allowing for thermal expansion. (See
‘drawing showing the axial and radial rotor clearances.)
5. Allowing for axial rotor expansion when.
making the alignment
‘The alignment in exial direction varies during operation
due to thermal expansion of the turbineand generator shafts,
‘The resulting rotor expansion is taken Into consideration
‘during the erection in such a way that the stator is mounted
with a displacement corresponding to the rotor expansion.
‘The expansion calculated by the manufacturers, by
which the rotor body centre of the generator rotor is
shifted relative to the stator core centre when changing
from the cold to the hot condition, is indicated in the,
