Swiss government into a service oriented framework which provides a intuitive interface to all the end users with
different roles. The Vista application supports 20 sub-applications in 4 languages spread across 18 cantons having
different requirements. VISTA-AMS is the support and maintenance project for Vista. I am working as a technical lead /

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.

Duration: (Oct 2006 Nov 2008)

Client: British Telecom

British Telecom(BT) Broadcast Services is the number one provider of advanced technology, management
and distribution solutions for the broadcast and multimedia industries. As traditional analogue broadcasting evolves to
digital multimedia across a wide variety of platforms and architectures, BT Broadcast Services delivers the breadth and
depth of added value services that the content industry needs for this new and converged environment.
Project Details:
Implemented "Fair Usage Policy" and "Traffic Shaping" for British Telecom. As part of this project, monthly usage of
customers was monitored and the speed available to very heavy users (typically less than 1 per cent of all customers)
was reduced during a given month to ensure that the service received by other customers is not impacted through
extremely heavy usage by a minority of people.
Traffic shaping was implemented at 2 levels:
Usage Based shaping, which manages bandwidth of high usage customers during peak hours.
Priority based shaping, which drops lower priority traffic (like emails) for higher priority packets (like VoIP)
To implement this, a number of batch applications and reporting tools were developed in JAVA to monitor and manage
the customer's usage. The application monitors the daily broadband usage of customers and filters heavy users based
on business rules specified in an XML file. The XML file contains threshold values and the actions to be taken on
customers breaching the corresponding threshold usage limits. It creates a "Usage Management" capability by
manipulating the network attributes of a line by applying rate limited profiles based on the customer's usage pattern. In
addition to this, multiple APIs were developed which were exposed as web services to enable users and helpdesk
agents to view their monthly usage and rate limiting (if any) applied on their line.
Responsibilities:
Requirement gathering and Customer interaction
