3. Rationale for Research

Construction related business is booming in New Zealand especially

in Christchurch after 2011 devastating earthquake. While natural
disasters are highly undesirable, the upside of it is that certain
companies have flourished as a result and one of these companies
is Fletcher. Fletcher Building Limited is one of the largest
construction companies in New Zealand and their market valuation
was estimated at NZ$ 6.63 Billion with more than 18,800 employees
worldwide (refs Exchange, N. Z. (2016, 08 04). NZX. Retrieved from
www.nzx.com: https://nzx.com/markets/NZSX/securities/FBU ).

So Fletcher Building which is one of the largest construction related

companies is actively participate on Rebuild Christchurch and
primarily in Building a Nation (refs FBU (2016, 08 04) Retrieved from
http://www.fbu.com/about-us/business-showcase/firth%e2%80%99sworld-first-foundation-solution/ )
Apart from Christchurch, New Zealand as a country faces many
small to big earth-quakes (on Richter scale). This suggests that
having an effective R&D would play a vital role in Fletcher Building,
particularly if the company could provide cutting-edge technologies
and innovation to resolve challenging situations. However, a balance
between the spending and gain is important. That leads me to think
that if company spend too much amount on R&D, can it contributes
on their future growth? And if not why? Therefore to analyse this I
need to check their annual reports, their earnings and budget
estimates, along with further investigations relevant to the issues.

4. Methodology and research instruments

To answer all these questions I have to follow many distinctive
techniques such as:

Literature review:
To answer above questions I have to review and analyse the report
prepared by New Zealand Council of Infrastructure Development
and also the Unaudited and audited reports prepared by Fletcher
Building and also their budget allocation for numerous activities and
their outcomes.
By prediction of distinct summaries, annual reports prepared by
auditors, research papers prepared and presented in architecture or
centre of infrastructure department of any University or in
Government department. Apart from that magazines articles by
many authors related ongoing research in infrastructure industry
from all of these I could able to answer some of the above
questions.

Interviews:
To supplement information from the literature, interviews of the
company staff may be undertaken. This will be done with full
permission from the contacted staff.
From that I will get a good amount of information, also I am able to
do my research in more productive way so I can make my research
report more impressive.

Consultation:
Another technique is consultation from Licenced Architects who
registered with NZRAB (New Zealand Registered Architects Board)
for more credible data and an important information. I will also take
advises from Post Graduates and PHD level students in Architecture
and Landscape department in Lincoln University or any other
Universities or from some institutions.
From consultation will lead me towards more broad view of research
and development techniques in Construction Business. So I can
evaluates what is going on in this department and also provides
help for my research draft.
