I. INTRODUCTION

This module is especially designed to help pupils learn and use the English language
efficiently and effectively. This focuses on indefinite pronouns and verbs that agree with
indefinite pronouns.

The series of exercises are all carefully selected and designed according to the
learners needs, interests, and experiences. This module will surely enable the learners to
acquire mastery and boost their confidence in answering grammar quizzes and tests.
II. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

This module aims to develop mastery among the learners in identifying indefinite
pronouns and using verbs that agree with indefinite pronouns.
III. LEARNING CONCEPTS
An indefinite pronoun does not refer to
any particular person, place or thing.
It is vague, not definite.
Some indefinite pronouns are always
singular, always plural, while
others are either singular or plural.

Indefinite pronouns that are always singular


are the following:
another
everybody

anyone
anybody

anything
everything

either

everyone

much nobody
nothing
little neither
no one
one
other somebody

Examples:
Everybody needs a friend.
No one is allowed to stay in the campus after 6
P.M.
Neither of these two reports is acceptable.

Those that are either singular or plural


are the following:

Any More

Some

The pronouns all, any, more, most,


none, some are singular when they
refer to mass nouns.
Ex. All mail has been delivered earlier.
Some milk is needed for this
recipe.
When all, any, more, most, none and
some refer to count nouns, their
number depends on the number of the
noun they replace.
Ex. Some of the students are
participating in the program.

Remember:
Singular indefinite pronouns used singular personal pronouns like he,
his, him, she, her, it.
Ex. Someone threw his sandwich outside the window.
Everyone is encouraged to bring his family to the picnic.
Plural indefinite pronouns used plural personal pronouns like they,
their, them.
Ex. Several have bought their tickets to the concert in advance.
Many of them did not do their assignment today.

I went on another trip last week. Few have visited the park I saw, because everyone
visits the museum. I saw something moving in the woods, but could not see it clearly. Then
there was more movement and everybody saw it. Either could have been a bear or both were
just the wind. Nobody could figure it out, but we had many guesses. The scenery there was
gorgeous; one could see for miles. Anybody would love that one view of the valley because
nothing is more beautiful.
