Camp Riveredge
4.1/4.2 September 19-21
4.3/4.4 September 26-28
Connect Charter School utilizes the guidelines and framework of the Youth Safe
Outdoors organization (http://www.youthsafeoutdoors.ca/) when planning and
implementing our outdoor education trips.
The obligation of Connect Charter is to ensure the safety and well being of our
students while on field trips. When selecting which parent volunteers will accompany
classes on trips, we must consider the following:
areas of expertise or experience so that our students are safe and receive the
best benefit possible from their field trips
the element of liability and risk to the volunteers themselves that we must
consider when assigning parent volunteers to our field trips
a parents ability to interact positively with all students they will be working
with and the adults ability to set a proper tone
a parents ability to maintain behavioural expectations in a positive and
student-centered way
a parents ability to make appropriate decisions without direct teacher input
In order to ensure that prospective parent volunteers are suited to the demands of the
field trips undertaken, we need some information regarding parents applicable
experience and expertise. Please fill out the form below if you are submitting your
name for a volunteer position to accompany students to Camp Riveredge. The
information we collect will help us decide which parents are best suited to accompany
us on this outdoor education experience. When the number of qualified parents
exceeds the number of spaces available, a random draw will be held to select the
volunteers, taking into consideration the need to balance genders for supervision
purposes.

Overview:
The grade four Fall camp is an important chance for students to have their first
outdoor education experience. They will be involved in a variety of activities that will
build community within the group, get students active in the outdoors, and allow them
to make connections to the Math, Science, and Humanities curricula in a different
environment. Please see the Parent Booklet for the detailed itinerary.
