LESSON 1: COSMIC ALPHABET

As a child learns language, the mind is able to take abstract vocalizations and associate them with
specific meanings. The child learns nouns to represent the people/places/things of his world, verbs
to represent what those things do, adjectives and adverbs to give flavor and so on. The child learns
intonation and body language to further color communication and expression. As a student of
astrology, you will see the building blocks of a language such as English, has reciprocal building
blocks in the language of the stars.
You will also learn the nouns, verbs and adjectives of this ancient cosmic symbolism and you will
start to see how the archetypes can be combined to create new flavors of the zodiac. Many strange
hybrid archetypes that makes astrology a place of continuous discovery! In the same way that a
poet uses words, an astrologer can blend together the signs, houses and planets to dive deeply into
a clients psyche and better help them with their inquiry.

In this article we will briefly outline the 3 main elements that make up the language of the stars: the
Planets, Zodiac Signs and Houses. These 3 elements are all interchangeable. (For example Aries,
is the 1st sign in the Zodiac, 1st house in the chart and ruled by Mars. These 3 elements all have
the same meaning to an astrologer but will be expressed slightly differently just as in English, Dog
can be used as a noun, as an adverb such as Doggedly or as a place Dog House. They all have
the same root pointing back at a loyal, unflagging companion pet, who is on occasion in trouble, but
always loves his master.
In order to create an astrological sentence and then a story, we will use the follow: Planets as
Nouns, Signs as Adverbs, Aspects as Verbs, Houses as Circumstances or the Sentences where
the first three combine, then Aspects and Rulerships to tie the story together. Moving through a
chart from the Primary Triad to each house the entire story of the chart will form. Patterns will repeat
and the Astrologer will start to see the shape of the personality, event or other entity that is being
studied.

PLANETS: THE NOUNS

HOUSES: THE SENTENCES OR THE CIRCUMSTANCES

Each House represents a different circumstance in life. The planets that fall into the house will be
affected by the house, and colored by the character of the house and the ruler on the cusp.
For example, any planet in your 2nd House, will be given a Taurus like quality, and will directly affect
your values and attitude toward possessions.
The Zodiac sign on the cusp is very important as well. Look at the ruling planet of that Zodiac sign to
give further information about the house.
FIRST HOUSE: Personal appearance, DNA, personality, individual, planets here will have an Aries
quality

LESSON 2: ELEMENTS & MODES

ELEMENTS
The Zodiac signs are also divided into 3 groups of 4 zodiac signs. The Modalities each consist of 2
pairs of polarities. Or 2 pairs of opposing signs. The signs all contain a similar nature of expression.
They also have an order of over-writeability when being combined with other signs. Fixed being the
strongest, then Cardinal, and lastly Mutable. ie when blending a Fixed sign and a Mutable sign, the
fixed sign will have stronger expression.

FIRE SIGNS
Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are the 3 Fire signs of the Zodiac. Fire is symbolic of ACTION. These
archetypes are marked by a fiery presence, a quickness to take action and bold personalities.

MODALITIES OR QUADRIPLICITIES
The Zodiac signs are also divided into 3 groups of 4 zodiac signs. The Modalities each consist of 2
pairs of polarities. Or 2 pairs of opposing signs. The signs all contain a similar nature of expression.
They also have an order of over-writeability when being combined with other signs. Fixed being the
strongest, then Cardinal, and lastly Mutable. ie when blending a Fixed sign and a Mutable sign, the
fixed sign will have stronger expression.

FIXED SIGNS
WHEN COMBINING SIGNS, FIXED ARE THE STRONGEST AND WILL BE EXPRESSED MORE
STRONGLY THAN THE OTHER MODALITIES.

TAURUS

LEO

SCORPIO

AQUARIUS
These signs are the immoveable, determined forces of the Zodiac. Using a metaphor, lets
imagine we have a group of 4 individuals helping a friend move. The Taurus would show up on
time, move boxes slowly, but consistently and would work until the job was done. The Leo would
be standing outside the moving van directing the minions. The Scorpio would have come over
the night before to help pack, will probably be going with the friend over to their new home to
make sure nothing gets broken. Even though the Aquarius organized the moving party, they will
show up a little late, and will be spending more time broadcasting the move on an extended
Snapchat story than actually moving boxes.

CARDINAL SIGNS
WHEN COMBINING SIGNS CARDINAL ARE NEUTRAL WITH CAPRICORN BEING THE
STRONGEST.

Aries

Cancer

Libra

Capricorn

These signs are the dynamic, ambitious, starters of the Zodiac. Using a metaphor, lets imagine we
have a group of 4 individuals working on a project. The Aries will be the one leading the charge, but
the least apt to plan or follow-through. The Cancer will be focused on giving the new project the
opportunity to grow, getting feedback from others and taking quiet time to massage the idea. The
Libra would then reach out to colleagues (the rest of the Zodiac) to bring in help to spread the
project. Finally, the Capricorn will make sure the project is brought to completion and that the group
has accomplished their task.

MUTABLE SIGNS
WHEN COMBINING SIGNS MUTABLE ARE THE WEAKEST AND ARE USUALLY NOT
EXPRESSED AS STRONGLY AS THE OTHER MODALITIES.

Gemini

Virgo

Sagittarius

Pisces

These signs share a desire to move out from the self and join with the collective. Sacrifice or lack of
ego is a hallmark of all 4 signs. Theyre go with the flow. Gemini demonstrates this by a lack of
seriousness or investment in worrying about their ego expression. Virgo is focused on serving from
behind the scenes by analyzing needs and taking care of them. Sagittarius is about seeking wisdom
through play, exploration and new experience. They also lack the gravitas seen in a person who has

a strongly ego-centric personality. Lastly, the Pisces is all about the merge of self and other through
the collective Oneness. Seen in escapism, romance, imagination, music, the arts, spirituality etc

LESSON 3: THE ZODIAC SIGNS

The zodiac signs are the 12 archetypal images used in astrology to represent the 12 sections of the
sky. When a chart is created the planets will land somewhere around the 360 of the circle falling
within the 30 degrees of one of the 12 zodiac signs or sections of the sky. When someone asks,
Whats your sign?, theyre referring to your sun, and which zodiac sign it falls into on your birth
chart.
Understanding the zodiac and the journey through each sign, which also corresponds to the houses,
will help you to memorize the symbolisms of the 12 archetypes. You can use this metaphor to help
you learn each house and corresponding zodiac sign:

1.

First House/Aries: THE SELF The Birth of the Individual or Protagonist in our metaphor

2.

Second House/Taurus: OBJECTS & POSSESSION Next the baby grows into a Toddler and
learns about the permanence of objects, and how to say MINE

3.

Third House/Gemini: THE MIND & EARLY SCHOOLING The child begins moves out of the
home into the neighborhood and school.

4.

Fourth House/Cancer: COMFORT & HOME After school, the child goes home to Mother
after a long day. Snacks and a hug. What comfort feels like.

5.

Fifth House/Leo: SELF EXPRESSION & PLAY The child then runs outside to play or pulls
out crayons to color.

6.

Sixth House/Virgo: DUTIES & DAILY HABITS Homework and then night time routine of
taking a bath and brush teeth.

7.

Seventh House/Libra: ONE ON ONE PARTNERSHIP First Best friend and then first crush.

8.

Eighth House/Scorpio: SACRED COUPLING & EXCLUSIVITYFirst sacred sexual

experience, first death experience & first loan. These three areas seem very different on the
surface but all deal with an understanding that all parties involved have agreed to the terms.

9.

Ninth House/Sagittarius: WISDOM FROM THE OUTER WORLD College, traveling to a

foreign country, learning life lessons. After the 7th & 8th houses of relating, our protagonist has
gained wisdom and emerges as a teacher with a sense of optimism. Knowing what was empty
will soon be full and what is full will soon be empty.

10.

Tenth House/Capricorn: CAREER & PERSONAL INFLUENCE Starting on a career path

and parenting. Planning the work and working the plan.

11.

Eleventh House/Aquarius: COLLECTIVE & ASSOCIATIONS Coming to an understanding

about everyones right to live life according to their own consciousness.

12.

Twelfth House/Pisces: THE ONENESS CONSCIOUSNESS Leaving this world and starting
all over again at Aries. The house of undoing, the point at which ourobos is neither the head
nor the tail, but both.

LESSON 4: THE PLANETS, ASPECTS &

ORBS
PLANETS: in astrology are the VERBS in the story. Whether were looking at a birth chart,
relationship chart or forecasting; the planets show what we DO. Each planet holds symbolism that
corresponds with a house and a zodiac sign or two. See the appendix for a correspondence chart
for quick, easy reference.
ASPECTS: The geometry between the planets and planetary points are the aspects. The angle of
the connection will describe how the planets affect each other. There are different flows of energy,
some are soft aspects, meaning easy and some are hard aspects, or difficult. The level of difficulty
or ease depends upon the planets involved, which will be explained below.
ORBS: The astrological chart is a circle, which is 360 degrees. This 360 degrees is divided into 12
equally sized zodiac signs of 30 degrees. The planets in the chart will fall into the 30 degrees of a
particular sign, and they will be flavored by that sign as well as the ruler of the sign. The degree of
the planet is then compared to other planets and points in the chart and the closer the geometry of
the angle between two planets is 0, the closer the aspect. The size of that difference is the orb.
There is a range from 0 to 10 that most astrologers will allow for an aspect to be considered. For it
to be strong enough to be part of a chart analysis, most consider orbs less than 5, and for it to be

PLANETARY ASPECTS

Planetary aspects indicate the flow of energy between the symbolism of the planets. The most
powerful aspects are ones that are as close to exact degrees. The orbs fall into categories of minor
and major, as well as soft (flowing) and hard (blocked). The following will move through
each planetary aspect.
SOFT PLANETARY ASPECTS
SEMI-SEXTILE 30 two planets form a 30 angle to one another. This is a very minor soft aspect
and general give an easy flow of energy between the two planets, even if one is Saturn, although the
Saturn energy will add a rigidity to the expression of the two planets meanings.
SEXTILE 60 two planets make a 60 angle to one another. This is a benefit soft aspect, much like
the Trine but less pronounced. More of a supportive energy, unless it is part of a complete planetary
formation.
TRINE 120 two planets that are from the same element. Easy flow of energy. The classic benefic
aspect. With Saturn this creates a kind of structure or rigidity. As an interaspect between two
people, it tends to glue the people together.

QUINCUNX 150 two planets will typically be across from each other on the wheel, one zodiac sign
removed from being opposite signs. This is usually an interesting aspect, the planets are in signs
that dont share elements or modalities. There can be lessons to learn from each other, but with
luminary to luminary contact, there will be differences in that could make for conflict.
HARD PLANETARY ASPECTS
CONJUNCTION 0 two planets fall within 0-2 orb from each other and create a sort of super
planet. Energies of both planets are combined with this aspect. Varies in its effect with the nature of
the planets involved. When Mars or Saturn are involved there is an activation (Mars) or a blockage
(Saturn) of the the other planets expression. CAN BE SOFT OR HARD.
SQUARE 90 the two planets form a 90 angle to one another with an allowable orb of 4 and are of
the same mode. Considered the most rigid and typically the most stressful aspect between two
planetary energies. Luminaries or personal planets expression will be restricted (with Saturn),
overly inflated (with Jupiter), unpredictable (with Uranus), foggy or spacy (with Neptune) and
dominating (with Pluto)
NEUTRAL PLANETARY ASPECTS
CONJUNCTION 0 two planets fall within 0-2 orb from each other and create a sort of super
planet. Energies of both planets are combined with this aspect. Varies in its effect with the nature of
the planets involved. When Mars or Saturn are involved there is an activation (Mars) or a blockage
(Saturn) of the the other planets expression. CAN BE SOFT OR HARD.
OPPOSITION 180 two planets from opposite sides of the zodiac, they typically mirror each other
and make up an axis. See Lesson 1: Cosmic Alphabet for axis descriptions. Like the conjunctions,
this aspect is neutral in expression depending upon involved planets.

LESSON 6: THE ANGLES

The Angles are the Cardinal Houses: 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th. They form a cross that divides the chart
in half, both vertically and horizontally. Astrologically, these houses give clues to the nature of the
Natives identity. Ego forces, security needs, relationship needs, life purpose. These are dynamic
places where our personalities make direct contact with the outer world through our identity
formation.
There are also the Succedent or Fixed Houses and the Cadent or Mutable Houses. The Succedent
Houses are the 2nd, 5th, 8th & 11th and they deal with circumstances of Possession and
Expression. The Cadent or Mutable Houses, 3rd, 6th, 9th & 12th deal with circumstances of
Knowledge and Wisdom. We will look at these in more depth during the Houses lesson.

THE 12 HOUSES: A QUICK REFRESHER

Each House represents a different circumstance in life. The planets that fall into the house will be
affected by the house, and colored by the character of the house and the ruler on the cusp.

For example, any planet in your 2nd House, will be given a Taurus like quality, and will directly affect
your values and attitude toward possessions.
The Zodiac sign on the cusp is very important as well. Look at the ruling planet of that Zodiac sign to
give further information about the house.

quality
SECOND HOUSE: Values, money, self-worth, talents, planets here will have a Taurus quality

LESSON 7: THE LUNAR NODES

THE LUNAR NODES
The Nodes of the Moon are points in the chart that represent the places at which the orbit of the
moon crosses the ecliptic of the Sun.
The North Node shows the Natives soul path in this incarnation. This is an area that is
unconsciously held. It may seem to allude the native or feel like an area of weakness, yet the native
may have a compulsive desire to enter situations with themes from the North Node. For example, a
Libra North Node may be very interested in relationships or one on one relating, but may have a hard
time giving up their independence, due to the shadow material from their Aries South Node being
exercised unconsciously.
To find the South Node, simply look at the opposite sign, in the same degree as the North Node. The
South Node represents the past and lessons the native will have mastered, or skills that the native
subconsciously understands and falls

For example, Taurus South Node may instinctively seek

security through material goods or relationships with others that are based on stability, security and
possibly shallow measures of value, such as the external appearance of wealth.
Some astrologers use the nodes of the moon to explore past life material. House placement, the
planets conjunct and making aspects to the SN, the aspects being made to the rulers of the house
placement in the natal chart, as well as aspects being made to all of the involved planets can create
a picture of past life circumstances, and possible events/lessons.
The North Node is an important point for understanding personal soul path development. What is
the Native here to learn? In what types of circumstances will they feel compelled to express these
energies? For what purpose?

teach the soul about the role of wealth in their lives as a means to an end, not the end itself. That

LESSON 8: THE HOUSES

Sorry for the Mess!
Building this page, check back soon :)

THE HOUSES OF THE HOROSCOPE

As discussed in Lesson 1 Cosmic Alphabet
The Houses are where an Astrologer looks to see what circumstance the planets are expressed.
The houses where the Luminaries (Sun & the Moon) as well as the personal planets are important
to study. Saturn will show areas of restriction or obligation/duty, or where the rules of the father or
culture is repressing the full expression of the rulerships of that house.
Jupiter will show an area with multiple experiences for growth or an expansion of a particular gift,
look to the house natural ruler, accidental ruler and the aspects being made to them.
The houses move through the zodiac signs from Aries in the 1st house on the left side of the
horoscope around counter-clockwise to the Piscean 12th house. These are called the Natural
House Rulers. The houses are always connected to the themes of their natural sign ruler.
When a chart is created, the horizontal line bi-secting the chart (ASC-DSC axis) represents the
horizon line. This is constantly changing throughout the day and moves through the zodiac as the
earth rotates on its axis. In 24 hours, each zodiac sign takes its turn rising on the ASC and then
setting as the DSC. The ASC or Rising Sign is the accidental sign on the First House and will
determine what zodiac signs fall onto all of the subsequent house cusps.

TWELVETH HOUSE: Neptune, unconscious, other worldly, spiritual, egoless, totally selfless house,
planets here will take on a Pisces quality

1ST HOUSE: THE INDIVIDUAL

If we were to create an allegory to tell the story of the Zodiac and how it progresses through the 12
Signs, it would start here with our new born baby. The 1st House is the pure potential available to
the native. It is the house that shows how the Native will approach new births.
Look at the Cusp (The ASC/Rising Sign) to gain a clearer understanding of the mask the individual
will use to navigate new challenges. Also, note where the ruler of the Rising Sign falls. That planet
is known as the Chart Ruler. The nature of the planet house, zodiac sign of the ruler and aspects
being made to the ruler will give a description about the physical appearance of the native as well.
Carriage, body type, movement, style of dress, etc
FIRST HOUSE AREAS: Personal appearance, DNA, personality, individual, planets here will have
an Aries quality and will be expressed directly through the Natives personality.

2ND HOUSE: POSESSIONS

To continue with our allegory, our protagonist from the first house has now grown into a toddler and
has learned about object permanence. The 2nd House is the Taurus house, the house of
possessions. The toddler learns to say MINE. The themes of this house have to do with personal
values and possessions. Sun & Moon in this house will give the a Taurus style to the natives
expression or emotional style. An interest in security, earthiness and sensuality will be present. If
venus or mars are here, the native may be motivated by fine objects or making money.
FIRST HOUSE AREAS: Values, money, self-worth, talents, planets here will have a Taurus quality

3RD HOUSE: COMMUNICATION

Now our protagonist in our Zodiacal allegory has grown old enough to start leaving the house.
Playing with siblings out in the neighborhood. Going to school.
The 3rd House rules all things that have to do with the early education, communication style,
markers of intelligence, blockages, studies of interest, neighbors, siblings, local travel.
THIRD HOUSE AREAS: Communication, intelligence, mental power, style of thinking, planets here
will have a Gemini quality

4TH HOUSE: HOME

After school, our child returns home. Back to comfort, safety, an afterschool snack, the Mother, the
womb. This is an unconscious area that we return to when under stress.
What planets are in this house? What is the Zodiac sign on the cusp? These will give you clues as
to the type of things the Native needs to feel safe.
FOURTH HOUSE AREAS: Home, place of comfort, childhood, mother, place to recover, planets
here will have a Cancer quality

5TH HOUSE: CREATIONS

Now hes had a snack, hes hugged his Mom, time to go outside and play for a bit, before the
inevitability of the 6th House.homework.
The 5th house is where we see the Natives creativity, look to the Zodiac sign and any planets within
the house, also note which house you find the Leo Zodiac sign placed on the cusp. That house is
where the Native will have a free flow of creative energies.
This is also our house of children and will indicate fertility, possible step-children, and the themes
therein.
FIFTH HOUSE AREAS: Creativity, creation, ego expression, planets here will have a Leo quality

6TH HOUSE: DAILY HABITS

After the fun of playing outside or maybe finger painting inside, its now the time Mom tells our
protagonist to do his homework, and then to eat his vegetables, and to shower and brush his teeth
before bedtime.
This is our Virgo house of daily duties, habits and attention to the things that need our service. Not
always an exciting house, but important for getting important tasks taken care of in life. To see the
flavor of the Natives day to day routines, look at the Zodiac sign on the cusp and also see which
house Virgo is on the cusp of, this will show you where the Native applies their Virgo-like dutiful
nature.
SIXTH HOUSE AREAS: Devotion, self sacrifice, duties, daily habits, health, planets here will have a
Virgo quality

7TH HOUSE: PARTNERSHIPS

Lets fast forward to the best friend and then onto the first romantic relationship. Weve completed
the houses of the bottom of the chart, our early learning and identity formation. Now we move onto
the houses that have to do with taking that identity and contrasting it with other individuals and the
world around us.

The 7th House is opposite the 1st House of Identity. It is about relating to other people. Not only
romantic relationships, but also the best friend, business partner, even our enemies. Its the house
that brings relationship opportunities into the Natives life so they can learn the lessons of the 7th
House, those skills opposite the 1st House, which theyve already mastered.
SEVENTH HOUSE AREAS: Relating, Relationships, Partnerships in work and love, even enemies,
planets here will have a Libra quality

8TH HOUSE: DEATH & SEX

As we start stepping into the waters of relating, and poking at our unconscious patterns of behavior,
we very shortly run into 8th House territory. The first intense, bonded sexual relationship, the first
death of a loved one, the first mortgage. Sex, death & joint financial commitments are all share
the common denominator of an agreement being made between two parties. For anything to be of
8th house in nature, there has to be an element of death or loss, followed by redemption.
EIGHTH HOUSE AREAS: Deep bonding between two people, sexuality, death and rebirth, planets
here will have a Scorpio quality

9TH HOUSE: WISDOM

With the 8th House lessons of intimate bonding, death of bonds, and the subsequent rebirth and
redemption that can only be experienced through loss. Our protagonist has grown in wisdom and
now understands what was once empty is now full, what is now full will soon be empty The 9th
House is about the wisdom of the world around us. Traveling to foreign places, going to college, lifelong learning, publishing a book, the teach, guru & guide. This house celebrates the growth that
comes after the destruction of the 8th House.
NINTH HOUSE AREAS: Wisdom, learning, spirituality/religion, other cultures, planets here will have
a Sagittarius quality

10TH HOUSE: STATUS

The 10th House is found at the top of the chart (not always the literal top of the chart, but is where
the MC is found. What do you want to be when you grow up? Career, status, keeping up or falling
behind.
This symbolizes the peak of the Natives status in the world. What planets do you see here?
Luminaries indicate the Native has a strong need to be seen as successful and important. Many
times coming from a childhood pressure to perform and show up in a particular way. These Natives
may struggle with a tension between their outer appearance and who they really are inside.
TENTH HOUSE AREAS: Outer world, career, status, how the world sees you/important need to be
seen, planets here will have a Sagittarius quality

11TH HOUSE: FRIENDS & ASSOCIATIONS

The adult protagonist then comes home from work and much like the 5th House, is looking for places
to express. In the 11th House we have resources, wisdom, experience of loss and perhaps an
understanding of self-sacrifice from the 7th through 10th houses. Our protagonist wants to associate
with friends, but in a way that supports the collective. Associations, charities, clubs, friendships,
Meetup groups, book clubs etc
Natives with strong 11th House placements will have an attraction towards group associations or
friendships. Look at the planets to see how this is expressed. If its the Sun or Moon, the Native
may have a strong need for external validation from friends and social peers. If a personal planet, it
will give them an appreciation of an active social life.
ELEVENTH HOUSE AREAS: Friendships, hopes & goals, collective, eclectic freak-flag house,
planets here will take on an Aquarius quality

12TH HOUSE: SPIRIT

This last house of the Zodiac is one of the most nebulous and tricky to define. It is the place of the
unconscious, which is inherently a place without words, names or definitions. This is the place
where the protagonist lets go of all earthly attachments and becomes part of the oneness.

Traditionally, associated with undoing. The house of addiction, affliction and restriction. The 12th
house can take on a note of delusion or disassociation from the realities of life. If the luminaries of
the Sun and/or Moon are here, the Native may have a certain spacey quality to their personality.
Can feel ungrounded, or can feel shy. Theres a sense that a planet is lost or hidden when in the
12th House. The Native may have a hard time consciously using the planet with this placement. On
the high side, this is the house of Spirit. Many Natives with Sun and/or Moon in this house will have
a selfless nature, and need to be careful about their boundaries with other people, so as to not
attract project friendships or relationships that might be toxic.
TWELFTH HOUSE AREAS: Unconscious, other worldly, spiritual, egoless, totally selfless house,
planets here will take on a Pisces quality

LESSON 9: THE ASTEROIDS

ASTEROIDS
Asteroids are small, planetoids orbiting the sun. In our solar system, there are millions of asteroids
of varying size located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, as well as orbiting on other
paths. Some astrologers use asteroids extensively, some not at all. My experience with these small,
rocky bodies has been powerful but with only 3. My experiments with other popular asteroids, such
as Eros, Psyche, Sedna, have met with limited success. A chart is already full of information with
our Sun, Moon and planets that the use of asteroids is secondary and done after looking at the
larger celestial bodies first.
The 3 asteroids Ive found to be the most powerful are Chiron, Juno & Vesta. Time and again, the
symbolisms have shown up accurately while analyzing charts. I believe this is because these 3 have
the strongest archetype descriptions.

Chiron, as the wounded healer which will show our talents and relationships that will heal us.

Juno, as the slighted wife which will show how the Native misuses sexual power.

Vesta, as the symbol of devotion which will show loyalty in friendship and other partnerships.

I will give a brief outline of each asteroids myth and rulerships, as well as some natal aspects and
how those will be expressed.

CHIRON: WOUNDED HEALER

The Greek myth of Chiron sets the stage for the symbolism of this asteroid. Born as the son of
Cronus, he was trained in the ways of his foster Father Apollo, as a teacher, healer and astrologer.
He gave his life to save Prometheus from the torture of being chained to a rock and enduring a life
of pain and misery. He teaches us how to heal ourselves so we can then heal others.
The asteroid in astrology will show where the native has the potential to uplift, mentor and/or teach
others. It is also a place of initial wounding and eventual mastery. The meaning in the relationship
chart is slightly different, where it holds a special role as the significator of true love, falling in love
and soulmate relationships, as outlined by the Magi Society.

KEYWORDS
healing, mastery, career path, gifts, talents, area of expertise, teaching, fertility, public image, fame
(in aspect to Uranus),

JUNO: LOVELESS SEXUALITY

Juno is a controversial asteroid in the astrology community. Her meaning has been polarized
between that of a benefic protector of marriage and that of the dark goddess ruling all illicit forms of
sexuality. Traditionally in Western astrology, she is seen as the asteroid to represent marital fidelity,
as seen by Juno the wife of Zeus, who endured his many romantic adventures. More recently, the
Magi Society has found a significant preponderance of Juno Venus interaspects in the relationship
charts of couples who have passionate sexual chemistry, but rarely marry. Theyve since attached
Juno to any and all illicit, acts of sex where love is absent.
In my experience, I agree with the Magi Societys assignment of Juno. She is the asteroid that will
show in a natal chart the Natives prediliction for perversion and loveless sex. In relationship
readings, she will be seen in the charts of couples who had intense sexual chemistry, but once they
moved in together or married, it disappeared leaving both partners confused.

KEYWORDS
selfish, narcissistic behavior, perversion, broken promises, deviance, dark cult, adultery,
pornography, cuckold, delusion, illusion, lies

VESTA: DEVOTION & LOYALTY

Vesta is an asteroid I use to see the loyalty of an individual. When in aspect to Jupiter or Venus, by
conjunction, trine, opposition, square in the longitudes or parallel/contra parallel in the declinations,
then the Native will be someone who behaves in a devoted manner to loved ones and friends. There
is a benefic energy applied to the way they relate to others.
If missing in the natal chart, but an individuals Vesta makes an interaspect to the partners Venus or
Jupiter, there is an increase in their loyalty to that person.
KEYWORDS
devotion, loyalty, support, inspiration, dedication, self-sacrifice, fan, love, affection, altruism

LESSON 10: READING THE CHART

In order to make reading a birth chart as simple as possible, this lesson will break down the
delineation process into brief, simple steps. The skill that a master astrologer has with chart analysis
comes from a strong understanding of the archetypes of the signs, planets, houses and aspects.
Keeping the process of reading the chart to a few simple steps, allows the reading to unfold in an
orderly manner. Allowing the astrologer to apply the majority of their mind power to their synthesis of
the symbols and patterns being discovered.
Step 1: Identify the Primary Triad
The Primary Triad is made up of the Sun and its house placement, the Moon and its house
placement and the Rising Sign along with its ruling planet, which is a the chart ruler. These 3
planets/points plus the additional details given by the houses, rulers and aspects will start to create a
framework that the rest of the personality can be built upon.
Be sure to take note of the following relative to the Triad:

1.

Zodiac signs of each

2.

Elements

3.

Modalities of each planet

4.

House placement

5.

House rulership

6.

Location of ruling planets

7.

Aspects the planets are receiving

8.

Overall intuitive feel of the Triad as synthesized by the entire chart

Step 2: Journey Through The 12 Houses

Next starting at the first house, move through each house counterclockwise noting the following:
1.

Zodiac signs, elements, modalities of each planet

2.

House placement

3.

House rulership and location of ruling planets

4.

Aspects the planets are receiving

5.

Overall intuitive feel of the personal planets as synthesized by the entire chart

See the Houses Lessons to refer back to house keywords and rulerships.
Step 3: Look for the Patterns
A picture of the personality will begin to emerge while looking at the Primary Triad. The life force and
the emotional drivers, in contrast or in harmony with the Rising Sign and how the individual
approaches new situations in life. As you move onto the personal planets of mercury, venus and
mars, a more detailed picture will emerge. You may see repetitions of planetary energy, or house
emphasis. This are important to keep in mind while progressing through the houses. A good
astrologer has the ability to recognize patterns quickly, hold a lot of disparate information in their
mind at once and then synthesize all of these elements in a way that is practical and makes real
world sense to the client.

Go back to the Planets, Aspects & Orbs Lesson for more information on how the planets will all
respond to one another, depending on aspects.

ESSON 11: FORECASTING

BASIC ASTROLOGY FORECASTING TECHNIQUES

To keep this lesson simple, we will focus only on simple transits and the solar return chart. These
two techniques each provide a wealth of information for the native and their upcoming year. Lets
define each technique and then do some simple examples of how these techniques can be applied.
These two techniques are the ones most commonly used by astrologers.

TRANSITS
Transits are the relationship between the current celestial bodies in our solar system to our birth
chart planetary placements.

To understand transits, one must understand aspects. The aspects

between the current planets and their birth chart will indicate upcoming events or cycles. The same
aspects used for birth chart delineation, synastry etc are used with forecasting. The astrologer looks
at how the native is triggered during a certain period of time. The transits will show the build up,
exact transit and then the separating period. Deductions about how the transit will affect the native
depend upon the transiting planet by house and sign, the planet aspected by house and sign, and
the nature of the aspect. The transits represent the ever-changing relationship of the native to their
own life. As well as showing exact timing dates for events and cycles.

SOLAR RETURN CHART

The Solar Return is a chart that is created each year the Sun returns to the same degree as the
moment the native was born. The Sun usually returns to its natal position on your birthday each
year, but sometimes this happens a day before or after. The only thing that will always be the same
as your birth chart is the Sun by zodiac sign and degree. The rest of the chart is typically quite
different from the birth chart. The Solar Return Chart gives an uncanny picture about the themes
and focus for the entire year. Looked at in conjunction with the transits, the astrologer can see when
the themes from the Solar Return Chart are set off by the transits.

TO READ TRANSITS
Starting with the transiting outer planets. Make note of the following cycles.

Pluto: Location by house (although Pluto will be in that house for close to 20 years) and the
aspects being made to natal Sun, Moon and Pluto in particular. Pluto is very far from the Earth,

so it moves through the sky/chart slowly, spending around 20 years in each house (depending
on house size) Pluto transits bring about transformation of the planet they are activating. Pluto
also takes away things that are no longer serving the native, relative to the planet it is transiting.
Will show where power struggles are taking place.

Neptune: Location by house and aspects to the other planets. Especially the natal Sun,
Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. Neptune tends to bring a fuzziness to the planet it aspects.

Saturn: Location by the house, by aspect to other planets. Note the Saturn return cycle
which happens about every 29 years, so every 7 years, there will be an aspect of the transiting
Saturn to the natal Saturn. These will be times where the native will be getting clear about the
realities of life. Themes of growing up, taking responsibility, work etc are highlighted during
these cycles. Noting the house that Saturn is transiting will indicate the area of the life that is the
work needs to be focused. Native may also feel burdens in this area of their life.

Jupiter: Location by the house, by aspect to other planets. Note the Jupiter return cycle
which happens every 12 years, so Jupiter will sit in one particular house per year. Jupiter brings
expansion, more of, opportunities by way of an influential person, a focus of benefic energy in
this area of the Natives life.

TRANSITS TO THE PLANETS

Pluto to the Sun indicates a transformation in the Natives expression of personal power. Teaches
Native to let go of self betraying behavior and to step into a more authentic expression of their true
self.
Pluto to the Moon indicates a transformation of the heart. Can be times of power struggle in
emotional relationships, or a time of deep catharsis and releasing of past emotional programming.
Can be a time when there are many emotional triggers in order to activate the old patterns and force
the Native to focus on releasing.
Pluto to Mercury indicates a transformation of the mind. The Native might be more interested in
focusing intensely on a particular subject. Can increase ones perception and ability to uncover
hidden mysteries.
Pluto to Venus indicates a transformation of the values and love life. This can be an intense time
with love relationships. A time when triggers to jealousy, possessiveness, dangerous partnerships,
combining the pleasure of Venus with the domination of Pluto can lead to sexual intensity as well.

Pluto to Mars indicates a transformation of the drive. This can be a time of aggression or at least
increased activity in the area that the Mars falls in the Natives chart.
Neptune to the Sun may leave the native unsure about their identity or no longer caring as much
about ego expression
Neptune to the Moon can increase the natives spirituality or compassion towards others
Neptune to Mercury can bring mystical thinking and may make focusing a little more difficult
Neptune to Venus will bring an unsureness about what the native wants from their love life
Neptune to Mars can indicate a fuzziness about what action needs to be taken.
Uranus to Sun brings an identity revolution. Old ways of expressing the ego are abandoned. The
house is important as well because it colors the natal Sun, so all the themes of the house will be
reevaluated and the old will be tossed out in exchange for a newer version.
Uranus to Moon brings an emotional revolution. Can also be a time of housing changes, or when the
childhood family has some kind of unexpected event, or the Native leaves the teachings of the
family home. Can be an emotionally uncomfortable time, anxiety is a common manifestation during
this transit. Also an on again, off again quality to emotions.
Uranus to Mercury brings a need to communicate freely and openly. Uranus is the higher octave of
Mercury, and both have a frenetic, busy, electric character. The native may feel their mind is quicker,
or more distracted, will need to express freely, may start studying a topic that was once seen as
taboo. A very strong need to think independantly.
Uranus to Venus brings a need for freedom in romantic relating. Can indicate a restlessness
towards the love life or current partner. Is a time when commitments will be reevaluated and many
times left for freedom. Uranus transits bring a selfishness because they are about the Native finding
personal freedom and self-expression, many times this energy can be present during an affair.
Uranus to Mars brings a physical nervousness and need for movement. The Native can become
erratic with starting and stopping new projects or directions of focus. Can also indicate a
restlessness romantically, like Venus, but this is more of a sexual restlessness and need to variety.
Strangely, it can also indicate a detachment from the sexual energy, or the sublimation of the sexual
energy into mental intercourse.

Saturn to Sun teaches the Native about their personal reality. Responsibilities, discipline, and hard
work are focuses during this transit. Also, theres a tendency to become very clear about
weaknesses, which can lead to feeling badly but then usually leads to opportunities to work on those
weaknesses.
Saturn to Moon helps the Native find out how they really feel. Saturn gives an unvarnished
evaluation of the planet it is transiting. When the Moon is in aspect, some of the harder emotions of
life most likely will surface. Including sadness, a sense of being unloveable, disconnected from
others, etc. Relationships that are painful and short on love will show-up and give the Native the
opportunity to get very clear about what they love. A time of emotional pruning.
Saturn to Mercury helps the Native to focus on clear thinking. This is a time when the mind is
focused, although a little slower than usual. The slowing down will help the Native to foucs on details
and segmenting. Thinking becomes more precise and thoughtful.
Saturn to Venus helps the Native focus on the realities of their love life. Especially in hard aspects,
this is a time of break-ups. Saturn will turn its attention to any illusions that are holding the
relationship together. They will be seen in the stark, harsh light of Saturn and force the Native to
decide if they can live with these realities.
Saturn to Mars helps the Native to slow down physically and metaphorically in order to get clear
about purpose. Is a great time to focus on dieting as an outward expression of the regulating energy
of Saturn. Can be a time of fatigue or loss of vitality. Take it slower and learn the lessons of taking
care of your body daily.
Jupiter to Sun expands the Natives identity. Increase in confidence, optimism, opportunities for selfgrowth. Will be interested in improving their life in some way. See house placement of Jupiter to get
a clearer picture about what kind of expansive energy the Native is wanting to improve in their life.
For example, transiting Jupiter in the 3rd House to the Sun would suggest an increase in
opportunities for improving communication of all kinds, increasing the quality of relationships with
neighbors & siblings, or perhaps an increase in the desire to offer communicative support to others.
Jupiter to Moon expands the Natives heart expression. Can be an increase in emotional responses,
an overall sense of optimism emotionally, changes to the home, new opportunities to nurture
someone or something.

Jupiter to Mercury increases the Natives need to learn, think and communicate. Can also give a
brighter mental outlook, an increased desire to reach out and share ideas with others, a desire to
collaborate.
Jupiter to Venus increases the desire to indulge in pleasures. Many times can be an increased focus
on over-doing food, drink, spending etc. Look to the house placement of the Venus is see what area
of the life might be over-done.
Jupiter to Mars increases the physical vitality and activity. More projects getting started, increased
libido which can be expressed sexually or through increased creative activity. Look to the nature of
the natal Mars to understand what kind of activity is being expanded.
Mars to Sun activates the ego expression. Can increase aggressiveness or agitation. Is also a time
that should be filled with activity and busy-ness. May give an increase to egotism.
Mars to Moon activates emotions. The Moon is not really comfortable being agitated by Mars, so
this can be a time of short-fuses and emotional restlessness. I think of this as a PMS transit. More
apt to fight instead of compromise.
Mars to Mercury activates the mind. More ideas, increased processing speed, cosmic caffeine. Can
feel mentally agitated and impatient during this transit.
Mars to Venus activates the desire for sexual expression. A great time for passionate love-making,
or for sublimating the energy into creative expression, improving the beauty of the body or starting a
new collaborative venture.
Venus to Sun brings harmony and beauty to the Native. This is an aspect that brings charm and
increased attractiveness to the Native. An increased desire to express the self as harmoniously as
possible.
Venus to Moon brings harmony and increased feelings of lovability. The desire for closeness and
pleasure in relating to others. More apt to compromise.
Venus to Mercury brings harmony to the Natives communication. Tend to be kinder with words,
interested in finding solutions that will work for all parties involved. Can also increase the artistic
expression of musicians, writers, poets, dancers, etc

Mercury to Sun brings a cerebral quality to the Natives self-expression. May increase the desire to
learn something new that will improve the self. Or might have an increased desire to define personal
identity.
Mercury to Moon increases the head and heart link. Feelings are given words so expression
becomes easier.

TRANSITING PLANETS THROUGH THE HOUSES

This list starts only includes Mercury through Saturn. In my experience, the house placement of the

PHYSICAL BODY & BEAUTY

IS THERE A STANDARD FOR BEAUTY?
Physical attractiveness is subjective. Historically and culturally, beauty standards have fluctuated,
most likely as a direct reflection of socio-economic undercurrents. Today, modern science has found
there are standard of physical attractiveness, that transcend cultural and historical preference. It
seems that we are biologically preprogrammed to be attracted to potential mates whose
appearances most strongly signal fertility. These standards of attractiveness include the following:

For Females: large eyes, prominent cheek bones, high foreheads, healthy skin and hip to
waist ratio of 0.7

For Males: prominent cheekbones, low brow ridge, strong jaw and a powerful, muscular build

Positive emotions expressed through the face and body language

Symmetry of facial and bodily structures

WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE ON PHYSICAL ATTRACTIVENESS

Generally, physical attraction can be studied from a number of perspectives, including universal
perceptions common to all human cultures, cultural and social aspects, and individual subjective
preferences. Additionally, the perception of attractiveness can have a significant effect on how
people are judged in terms of employment or social opportunities, friendship, sexual behavior, and
marriage.
Some physical features are attractive in both men and women, particularly bodily and facial
symmetry, although one contrary report suggests that absolute flawlessness with perfect symmetry
can be disturbing. Symmetry may be evolutionarily beneficial as a sign of health because
asymmetry signals past illness or injury. One study suggested people were able to gauge beauty at
a subliminal level by seeing only a glimpse of a picture for one-hundredth of a second. Other
important factors include youthfulness, skin clarity and smoothness of skin; and vivid color in the
eyes and hair. However, there are numerous differences based on gender.
A 1921 study of the reports of college students regarding those traits in individuals which make for
attractiveness and repulsiveness argued that static traits, such as beauty or ugliness of features,
hold a position subordinate to groups of physical elements like expressive behavior, affectionate
disposition, grace of manner, aristocratic bearing, social accomplishments, and personal habits.[24]

Grammer and colleagues have identified eight pillars of beauty: youthfulness, symmetry,
averageness, sex-hormone markers, body odour, motion, skin complexion and hair texture.
Male physical attractiveness
Women, on average, tend to be more attracted to men who have a relatively narrow waist, a Vshaped torso, and broad shoulders. Women also tend to be more attracted to men who are taller
than they are, and display a high degree of facial symmetry, as well as relatively masculine facial
dimorphism. With regard to male-male-attractiveness, one source reports that the most important
factor that attracts gay men to other males is the mans physical attractiveness.
Sexual dimorphism
This is a remake of a facial geometric sexual dimorphism diagram from Valenzano, D. R. et al.
(2006). The horizontal axis indicates geometric facial femininity, and the vertical axis indicates
proportion of the population. The blue bell curve on the left represents the male faces, and the pink
bell curve on the right represents the female faces. The purple area in the center represents the
overlap of the two bell curves where the feminine male faces cannot be distinguished from the
masculine female faces. The bell curves show that the proportion of female faces that are more
feminine than the most feminine male faces is much greater than the proportion of male faces that
are more masculine than the most masculine female faces.
Studies have shown that ovulating heterosexual women prefer faces with masculine traits associated
with increased exposure to testosterone during key developmental stages, such as a broad forehead,
relatively longer lower face, prominent chin and brow, chiseled jaw and defined cheekbones. The
degree of differences between male and female anatomical traits is called sexual dimorphism.
Female respondents in the follicular phase of their menstrual cycle (n = 55) were significantly more
likely to choose a masculine face than those in menses and luteal phases (n = 84), (or in those
taking hormonal contraception).
It is suggested that the masculinity of facial features is a reliable indication of good health, or,
alternatively, that masculine-looking males are more likely to achieve high status. However, the
correlation between attractive facial features and health has been questioned.[Sociocultural factors,
such as self-perceived attractiveness, status in a relationship and degree of gender-conformity, have
been reported to play a role in female preferences for male faces. Studies have found that women
who perceive themselves as physically attractive are more likely to choose men with masculine facial
dimorphism, than are women who perceive themselves as physically unattractive. In men, facial
masculinity significantly correlates with facial symmetryit has been suggested that both are signals

of developmental stability and genetic health. One study called into question the importance of facial
masculinity in physical attractiveness in men arguing that when perceived health, which is factored
into facial masculinity, is discounted it makes little difference in physical attractiveness. In a crosscountry study involving 4,794 women in their early twenties, a difference was found in womens
average masculinity preference between countries.
A study found that the same genetic factors cause facial masculinity in both males and females such
that a male with a more masculine face would likely have a sister with a more masculine face due to
the siblings having shared genes. The study also found that, although female faces that were more
feminine were judged to be more attractive, there was no association between male facial
masculinity and male facial attractiveness for female judges. With these findings, the study reasoned
that if a woman were to reproduce with a man with a more masculine face, then her daughters would
also inherit a more masculine face, making the daughters less attractive. The study concluded that
there must be other factors that advantage the genetics for masculine male faces to offset their
reproductive disadvantage in terms of health, fertility and facial attractiveness when the same
genetics are present in females.
The study reasoned that the selective advantage for masculine male faces must have (or had)
been due to some factor that is not directly tied to female perceptions of male facial attractiveness.
The study said that the selection for masculine male faces could be due to the indirect result of
female preferences for correlated traits such as bodily muscularity or assertive tendencies. The
study also said women could possibly judge more masculine faces as being more attractive in
certain contexts or populations or during ovulation, even though more masculine male faces are not
judged by women as more attractive overall. Alternatively, the study said that the selection for
robust male faces could be due to a survival or reproductive advantage by which greater
robustness is better suited for physical damage in male-male competition or facial robustness may
indicate

dominance

to

male

competitors.

In a study of 447 gay men in China, researchers said that tops preferred feminized male faces,
bottoms preferred masculinized male faces and versatiles had no preference for either feminized or
masculinized

male

faces.

In pre-modern Chinese literature, the ideal man in caizi jiaren romances was said to have rosy lips,
sparkling white teeth and a jasper-like face (Chinese: ).
In Middle English literature, a beautiful man should have a long, broad and strong face.
Orthognathism
A study that used Chinese, Malay and Indian judges said that Chinese men with orthognathism
where the mouth is flat and in-line with the rest of the face were judged to be the most attractive and

Chinese men with a protruding mandible where the jaw projects outward were judged to be the least
attractive.
Symmetry
Symmetrical faces and bodies may be signs of good inheritance to women of child-bearing age
seeking to create healthy offspring. Studies suggest women are less attracted to men with
asymmetrical faces, and symmetrical faces correlate with long term mental performance and are an
indication that a man has experienced fewer genetic and environmental disturbances such as
diseases, toxins, malnutrition or genetic mutations while growing. Since achieving symmetry is a
difficult task during human growth, requiring billions of cell reproductions while maintaining a parallel
structure,

achieving

symmetry

is

visible

signal

of

genetic

health.

Studies have also suggested that women at peak fertility were more likely to fantasize about men
with greater facial symmetry, and other studies have found that male symmetry was the only factor
that could significantly predict the likelihood of a woman experiencing orgasm during sex. Women
with partners possessing greater symmetry reported significantly more copulatory female orgasms
than were reported by women with partners possessing low symmetry, even with many potential
confounding variables controlled. This finding has been found to hold across different cultures. It has
been argued that masculine facial dimorphism (in men) and symmetry in faces are signals
advertising genetic quality in potential mates.Low facial and body fluctuating asymmetry may indicate
good health and intelligence, which are desirable features. Studies have found that women who
perceive themselves as being more physically attractive are more likely to favor men with a higher
degree of facial symmetry, than are women who perceive themselves as being less physically
attractive. It has been found that symmetrical men (and women) have a tendency to begin to have
sexual intercourse at an earlier age, to have more sexual partners, and to have more one-night
stands. They are also more likely to be prone to infidelity. A study of quarterbacks in the American
National Football League found a positive correlation between facial symmetry and salaries.
Body

scent

A number of double-blind studies have found that women prefer the scent of men who are rated as
facially attractive. For example, a study by Anja Rikowski and Karl Grammer had individuals rate the
scent of T-shirts slept in by test subjects. The photographs of those subjects were independently
rated, and Rikowski and Grammer found that both males and females were more attracted to the
natural scent of individuals who had been rated by consensus as facially attractive. Additionally, it
has also been shown that women have a preference for the scent of men with more symmetrical
faces, and that womens preference for the scent of more symmetrical men is strongest during the
most fertile period of their menstrual cycle. Within the set of normally cycling women, individual

womens preference for the scent of men with high facial symmetry correlated with their probability of
conception.
Genetics
Studies have explored the genetic basis behind such issues as facial symmetry and body scent and
how they influence physical attraction. In one study in which women wore mens T-shirts,
researchers found that women were more attracted to the bodily scents in shirts of men who had a
different type of gene section within the DNA called Major histocompatibility complex (MHC). MHC is
a large gene area within the DNA of vertebrates which encodes proteins dealing with the immune
system and which influences individual bodily odors.[ One hypothesis is that humans are naturally
attracted by the sense of smell and taste to others with dissimilar MHC sections, perhaps to avoid
subsequent inbreeding while increasing the genetic diversity of offspring. Further, there are studies
showing that womens natural attraction for men with dissimilar immune profiles can be distorted with
use of birth control pills. Other research findings involving the genetic foundations of attraction
suggest that MHC heterozygosity positively correlates with male facial attractiveness. Women judge
the faces of men who are heterozygous at all three MHC loci to be more attractive than the faces of
men who are homozygous at one or more of these loci. Additionally, a second experiment with
genotyped women raters, found these preferences were independent of the degree of MHC similarity
between the men and the female rater. With MHC heterozygosity independently seen as a genetic
advantage, the results suggest that facial attractiveness in men may be a measure of genetic quality.
Youthfulness
For the Romans especially, beardlessness and smooth young bodies were considered beautiful to
both men and women. For Greek and Roman men, the most desirable traits of boys were their
youth and hairlessness. Pubescent boys were considered a socially appropriate object of male
desire, while post-pubescent boys were considered to be or past the prime. This was
largely in the context of pederasty (adult male interest in adolescent boys). Today, men and womens
attitudes towards male beauty has changed. For example, body hair on men may even be preferred
(see below).
Waist-to-chest

ratio

The physique of a slim waist, broad shoulders and muscular chest are often found to be attractive to
females. Further research has shown that, when choosing a mate, the traits females look for
indicate higher social status, such as dominance, resources, and protection. An indicator of health in
males (a contributing factor to physical attractiveness) is the android fat distribution pattern which is
categorized as more fat distributed on the upper body and abdomen, commonly referred to as the V
shape. When asked to rate other men, both heterosexual and homosexual men found low waist-to-

chest ratios (WCR) to be more attractive on other men, with the gay men showing a preference for
lower

WCR

(more

V-shaped)

than

the

straight

men.

Other researchers found waist-to-chest ratio the largest determinant of male attractiveness, with
body mass index and waist-to-hip ratio not as significant.
Women focus primarily on the ratio waist to chest or more specifically waist to shoulder. This is
analogous to the waist to hip ratio (WHR) that men prefer. Key body image for a man in the eyes of a
woman would include big shoulders, chest, and upper back, and a slim waist area. Research has
additionally shown that college males had a better satisfaction with their body than college females.
The research also found that when a college females waist to hip ratio went up, their body image
satisfaction decreased. The results indicate that males had significantly greater body image
satisfaction than did females.
Some research has shown that body weight may have a stronger effect than WHR when it comes to
perceiving attractiveness of the opposite sex. It was found that waist to hip ratio played a smaller role
in

body

preference

than

body

weight

in

regards

to

both

sexes.

Psychologists Viren Swami and Martin J. Tovee compared female preference for male attractiveness
cross culturally, between Britain and Malaysia. They found that females placed more importance on
WCR (and therefore body shape) in urban areas of Britain and Malaysia, while females in rural areas
placed more importance on BMI (therefore weight and body size). Both WCR and BMI are indicative
of male status and ability to provide for offspring, as noted by evolutionary theory.
Females have been found to desire males that are normal weight and have the average WHR for a
male. Females view these males as attractive and healthy. Males who had the average WHR but
were overweight or underweight are not perceived as attractive to females. This suggests that WHR
is not a major factor in male attractiveness, but a combination of body weight and a typical male
WHR seem to be the most attractive. Research has shown that men who have a higher waist to hip
ratio and a higher salary are perceived as more attractive to women.
Flat

abdomen

A 1982 study found that an abdomen that protrudes was the most unattractive physical trait for men.
In Middle English literature, a beautiful man should have a flat abdomen.
Musculature
Mens bodies portrayed in magazines marketed to men are more muscular than the mens bodies
portrayed in magazines marketed to women. From this, some have concluded that men perceive a
more muscular male body to be ideal, as distinct from a womans ideal male, which is less muscular
than what men perceive to be ideal. This is due to the within-gender prestige granted by increased

muscularity and within-gender competition for increased muscularity. Men perceive the
attractiveness of their own musculature by the closeness their body resembles the muscle man.
This muscle man ideal is characterized by large muscular arms, especially biceps, a large
muscular

chest

that

tapers

to

their

waist

and

broad

shoulders.

In a study of stated profile preferences on Match.com, a greater percentage of gay men than
lesbians selected their ideal partners body type as Athletic and Toned as opposed to the other two
options

of

Average

or

Overweight.

In pre-modern Chinese literature, such as in The Story of the Western Wing, a type of masculinity
called scholar masculinity is depicted wherein the ideal male lover is weak, vulnerable, feminine,
and

pedantic.

In Middle English literature, a beautiful man should have thick, broad shoulders, a square and
muscular chest, a muscular back, strong sides that taper to a small waist, large hands and arms and
legs with huge muscles.
Genitalia
A 2006 study of 25,594 heterosexual men found that men who perceived themselves as having a
large

penis

were

more

satisfied

with

their

own

appearance.

A recent 2014 study criticized previous studies based on the fact that they relied on images and used
terms such as small, medium, and large when asking for female preference. The new study
used 3D models of penises from sizes of 4 inches long and 2.5 inches in circumference to 8.5 inches
long and 7 inches in circumference and let the women physically handle them. It was found that
women overestimated the actual size of the penises they have experimented with when asked in a
follow-up survey. The study concluded that women on average preferred the 6.5 inch penis in length
both for long-term and for one-time partners. Penises with larger girth were preferred for one-time
partners.
Height

and

erect

posture

Females sexual attraction towards males may be determined by the height of the man. Height in
men is associated with status or wealth in many cultures (in particular those where malnutrition is
common), which is beneficial to women romantically involved with them. One study conducted of
womens personal ads support the existence of this preference; the study found that in ads
requesting height in a mate, 80% requested a height of 6.00 feet (1.83 m) or taller. The online dating
Website eHarmony only matches women with taller men because of complaints from women
matched with shorter men.
Other studies have shown that heterosexual women often prefer men taller than they are rather than
a man with above average height. While women usually desire men to be at least the same height as

themselves or taller, several other factors also determine male attractiveness, and the male-taller
norm is not universal. For example, taller women are more likely to relax the taller male norm than
shorter women. Furthermore, professor Adam Eyre-Walker, from the University of Sussex, has stated
that there is, as yet, no evidence that these preferences are evolutionary preferences, as opposed to
merely cultural preferences. In a double-blind study by Graziano et al., it was found that, in person,
using a sample of women of normal size, they were on average most attracted to men who were of
medium height (59- 511) and less attracted to both men of shorter height (55 - 57 ) and men of
tallest height (62- 64).
Additionally, women seem more receptive to an erect posture than men, though both prefer it as an
element within beauty. According to one study (Yee N., 2002), gay men who identify as Only Tops
tend to prefer shorter men, while gay men who identify as Only Bottoms tend to prefer taller men.
In romances in Middle English literature, all of the ideal male heroes are tall, and the vast majority
of the valiant male heroes are tall too.
Hairiness
Studies based in the United States, New Zealand, and China have shown that women rate men with
no trunk (chest and abdominal) hair as most attractive, and that attractiveness ratings decline as
hairiness increases. Another study, however, found that moderate amounts of trunk hair on men was
most attractive, to the sample of British and Sri Lankan women. Further, a degree of hirsuteness
(hairiness) and a waist-to-shoulder ratio of 0.6 is often preferred when combined with a muscular
physique.
In a study using Finnish women, women with hairy fathers were more likely to prefer hairy men,
suggesting that preference for hairy men is either the result of genetics or imprinting. Among gay
men, another study (Yee N., 2002) reported gay males who identify as only tops prefer less hairy
men, while gay males who identify as only bottoms prefer hairier men.
Skin

color

Testosterone has been shown to darken skin color in laboratory experiments. In his foreword to Peter
Frosts 2005 Fair Women, Dark Men, University of Washington sociologist Pierre L. van den Berghe
writes: Although virtually all cultures express a marked preference for fair female skin, even those
with little or no exposure to European imperialism, and even those whose members are heavily
pigmented, many are indifferent to male pigmentation or even prefer men to be darker. Despite this,
the aesthetics of skin tone varies from culture to culture. Manual laborers who spent extended
periods of time outside developed a darker skin tone due to exposure to the sun. As a consequence,
an association between dark skin and the lower classes developed. Light skin became an aesthetic
ideal because it symbolized wealth. Over time society attached various meanings to these colored

differences. Including assumptions about a persons race, socioeconomic class, intelligence, and
physical attractiveness. More recent research has suggested that redder and yellower skin tones,
reflecting higher levels of oxygenated blood, melanin pigment and net dietary intakes of fruit and
vegetables, appears healthier, and therefore more attractive.

HOW TO FIND BEAUTY IN THE BIRTH CHART

An astrologer would expect to find Venus well-aspected and strong in the chart of an attractive
individual. This is the planet that rules beauty, harmony, fertility (to a certain extent along with the
Moon) and sexual pleasure. Neptune is important, as well. It is a higher octave of Venus.
Compassionate, angelic love. Many actors and actresses have strong Neptune placement in their
Birth Charts, which gives them the ability to exude a mysterious, magnetic quality. It seems to give
the Native an un-earthly or angelic beauty.
1.

When using astrology to understand a persons physical appearance, you will start by
examining the 1st House and Ascendent. Make a note of the Zodiac sign, the planets conjunct
the ASC and the planets found in the 1st House.

2.

The Ascendent or Rising Sign will give some clues about a persons looks but it seems to
be better at describing a persons vibe. For example, the Fire Signs have quicker movements

and are more aggressive, the Earth Signs tend to move slowly and to wait during conversation,
Air Signs have a cerebral, extroverted expression and Water Signs can seem more reserved.
3.

But, to dig deeper, take a look at the Chart Ruler of the Birth Chart. This is the ruling planet
of the Ascendent. Find the Chart Ruler by House placement, as well as Zodiac sign and
aspects. The Chart Ruler seems to tell a more nuanced and accurate story about a persons
physical appearance.

MARKERS OF PHYSICAL BEAUTY

1.

Strongly Placed Venus in the 1st, 7th, or 10th Houses. The individual will be known for
their attractiveness and/or glamour. Enhanced if Venus & Neptune are in aspect to one
another. Also, Saturn conjunctions, squares or oppositions add a severity or angularity to the
physical appearance. For example a prominent pointiness to the nose or an aqualine face.

2.

Libra, Taurus or Pisces Rising: Chart ruler of Venus or Neptune, as long as the ruler is not
poorly aspected with hard aspects from Saturn or Mars (unless Male: Mars influence on the
rising sign or chart ruler will give a muscularity or masculinity to the appearance) Remember, the
Rising sign is better at indicating a persons vibe or way of moving. The placement of the
Chart Ruler gives you the more important details about actual appearance.

3.

Chart ruler is in the 2nd H: gives an earthy sensual beauty. More prone to have a solid
body type, curvy as a woman or broad as a man.

4.

Chart ruler is in the 7th H: gives a pleasant, dimpled appearance, high cheekbones, curved
facial shape, angels bow mouth, charming nature

5.

Chart ruler is in the 10th H (in a Mans chart): gives power, ambition and masculinity

6.

Chart ruler is in the 12th H: gives a feminine, magnetic, illusive glamour, beautiful soulful
eyespossibly large or of a special color or quality

7.

Venus or Neptune Conjunct, Trine or Opposite the ASC or Chart Ruler: gives charm and
beauty, softens the appearance

8.

Venus-Jupiter aspects: enhances personal charm and happiness

9.

Venus-Mars aspects: increase sexual hotness

10.

Venus-Pluto aspects: add a dangerous sexy bad boy/bad girl vibe, not necessarily beautiful
though

OVERALL BODY TYPE: THINNESS VS PLUMPNESS

For overall body type, take a look at Mars. The following are general rules:

Mesomorphs/Medium Build/Solid: Mars in Aries, Leo, Scorpio, Capricorn or Mars in the

1st, 5th, 8th, or 10th houses will tend to be more muscular. When in shape these men are
considered some of the most attractive male bodies.

Ectomorphs/Lean Build/Skinny: Mars in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Aquarius or Mars in the

3rd, 6th, 9th or 11th Houses tend to be long and/or skinny, due to excessive physical or nervous
system energy. These are our runway models and hard gainer body types.

Endomorphs/Curvy Build/Soft: Mars in Taurus, Cancer, Libra, Pisces or Mars in the 4th,
7th or the 12th tend to be curvy and have fluctuating weight. When in shape, these are
considered some of the most desireable female bodies.

Look at both the sign and the house placement for Mars. A person can have a Cancer Mars which is
a body type that fluctuates in weight, and they could have it in the 11th House, which is a placement
that would indicate the Native is on again/off again with the way their energy systems operate. They
will go go go, probably be quite skinny for a bit, then burn out and gain back the weight for a bit. The
weight would also be in flux.

WEALTH & POSSESSIONS

WEALTH IN THE BIRTH CHART
To understand an individuals attitude towards money and possessions, we have to look at their
value system. There are 7 houses that give different clues about a persons value system. We can
see how the individual manifests their dreams, where the money will come from and how they
manage the money once they have it in the bank.

MOST IMPORTANT WEALTH HOUSES

The 2nd House is traditionally the house of wealth. We can see what a person values when we look
at the 2nd House. Notice the Zodiac sign on the cusp. Which house is the ruler placed into? Does
it make hard or soft aspects? To which planets?
The 4th House will show you the individuals childhood home and security needs. This is the house
of Cancer, which happens to be one of the most ambitious signs. Motivated by a desire to protect
family and home through financial security.
The 5th House is the house of ego. If this house is strong and makes connections by rulership to the
2nd or 10th house, then the native has a desire to be seen as important. Wealth is an outward sign
of power and prestige.
The 6th House is the house of the servant. Sometimes a strong 6th House can indicate the native is
humble about wealth.
The 7th House indicates wealth that may come through partnership. Marriage or business.

The 8th House indicates a strong mind for strategy. Also, the desire to hold onto assets and follow
through on plans. Seeing things to completion, even if that means the death of a project. This
house shows if income will come through marriage, death or joint resources.
The 10th House is associated with wealth earned through business and that the display of status is
important to the native.

HOW EACH ZODIAC SIGN SEES WEALTH

Aries: Being wealthy means you won the battle

Taurus: Material goods bring pleasure

Gemini: Wealth so you can work on other projects

Cancer: Money buys security

Leo: Wealth means youre important

Virgo: Having money means you can help others

Libra: Money lets you enjoy the good life

Scorpio: Wealth imparts power

Sagittarius: Having money allows you to experience new things

Capricorn: Wealth proves you were right, imparts status

Aquarius: Money gives you freedom

Pisces: Wealth is something that comes and goes (least materialistic)

Indicators of Wealth

2nd House ruler in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th and making an aspect to
Venus (money comes easily or possibly through partnership), Jupiter (wealth is
expanded), Saturn when (wealth is earned through focused work), Pluto (focus on
themes of wealth building).

Venus, when moving in a direct motion and located in an angular house with aspects
to Jupiter, may indicate an ease to earning income, or earning it through the Natives
talents and charms.

Strength of the overall chart. Does the chart indicate a strong, focused personality?
Many times the planetary geometry of the aspects will look organized and focused
around stelliums with tight orbs. The personality will have a focused direction with
their expression of will power. Those with strong Taurus, Scorpio, Capricorn have a
tendency to appreciate material wealth. There is a realistic understanding about how

much focus will be required to achieve their goals, combined with a consistency of
daily habits.

Jupiter to Pluto can indicate the ability to amass large amounts of wealth, in the
longitudes or the declinations

Indicators of Blocks

If the 2nd House ruler is in mutable signs, retrograde and/or making hard aspects to
Saturn or Neptune, the native may struggle with focusing their energy in the direction
necessary to turn dreams into reality. They may also struggle with saving money.
With a Jupiter square, the native may overspend during good financial times and get
themselves into debt.

Strong mutable charts without the indicators of wealth can show that the native is not
focused on the material world. They may be more focused on their values of gaining
knowledge or helping others.

If the individual has a chart with a strong 12th House, Neptune to luminaries or
Pisces, there may be a tendency to disavow materialism or to use personal wealth to
bless others. May have guilt about keeping the money for the self.

Hard Neptune aspects to the ruler of the 2nd House or 8th House can indicate a
hazy, misunderstanding of how to manage personal finances. Perhaps, believing
more money is in their account than there is in reality.

WEALTH ASPECTS

Strong 2nd House indicates a focus on material goods and the ability to see the self as
worthy of asking for what is deserved. In particular if the cusp ruler is making easy aspects to
Venus and/or Jupiter. Does not indicate wealth by itself, but rather the ability to earn income. In
particular, when there are a preponderance of Taurus, Scorpio, Capricorn planets in the mix.

A well placed 10th House ruler with aspects to Venus, Jupiter and/or Saturn can indicate the
native has the desire, opportunity and discipline to achieve status through career. Look to the
Zodiac sign on the cusp to understand what success will look like to the individual. See my
above listing of wealth as seen through the Zodiac signs. Wealth to a Pisces cusp is about
creative solutions that help others, wealth to a Capricorn cusp would be achievement through
the eyes of others.

Pluto/Jupiter aspects are considered indicators of large amounts of wealth.

Planets in Cancer, Capricorn, and/or a 10th House emphasis with the luminaries indicates an
individual concerned with personal security through financial success

The Accidential Determination of the Sky and the Planets

1. Each planet causes different specific effects in each of the houses. The same applies to
the zodiacal signs and the stars.
2. In the same house, each planet produces different effects. So also does each zodiacal
sign, each star.
3. The same planet produces certain effects by its conjunction with a planet, others by its
opposition, others by its trine, others by its square, etc.
4. The same aspect determines different effects when sent from different planets.
5. The same planet elicits different kinds of effects when it rules different houses.
6. A point on the Primum Mobile (the Zodiac for practical purposes) which, in the
horoscope of an individual, is occupied by a certain planet, manifests its influence
depending on the properties of this planet, and acts on the individual as long as he lives.
In a similar way, the same point of the Primum Mobile can simultaneously be the
Ascendant of one person, and thus exert its influence on the life and constitution of this
subject, and be found on the cusp of another house of another horoscope, and thus act on
this other person in the direction of the meanings attached to this other house.
What has just been said of the planets must be applied to their aspects.
7. Each celestial agent acts only according to its own nature and power.
8. The range of particular effects which a celestial agent can cause in connection with a
given person is determined by the person's capacity to receive the influence and react to
it.
9. The same agent, in the same conditions, always produces the same effects on the same
subject.
10. Each house differs from every othr house because of its properties.
11. Each planet differs from every other because of its nature, or at least because of the
active properties of its influx.
12. All zodiacal signs differ among themselves either because of their elemental nature, or
the active properties of their influx, or both.

13. Different aspects from the same planet are different because of their properties or their
power.
14. All the Fixed Stars do not possess either the same nature or the same properties.
15. Diverse astral influences combine in the native on whom they act.
16. The same planet, acting conjointly with the same zodiacal sign, always causes the same
specific effects, as much on the elemental plane as on the influential.
17. Two planets cannot each produce the same effects in the horoscope of a person, whether
taken separately or together.
18. The same planet can cause, by means of its infuence, different effects in the same subject.
19. No planet has by its influence, the same effect on subjects of different sorts not even on
many subjects of the same sort.
20. When a planet is outside of its own sign, it provokes on thing because of its position in
the house it occupies, and another because of its rulership in another house.
21. A planet does not signify one thing except insofar as it brings it about.
General Rules for the Interpretation of the Celestial Figure
22. Each planet always acts conjointly with the zodiacal sign in which it is found.
23. Each zodiacal sign always operates according to the nature and zodiacal state of its ruler,
but not always according to the latter's local determination.
24. Each planet always acts according to the nature and zodiacal state of its dispositor. Most
often it acts also by reason of the latter's terrestrial state. Finally, to a certain extent it
acts also depending on its "Second Ruler".
(Cf. Rule 52)
25. In the first place, one should determine the ZODIACAL STATE of a planet, as this rules
the quality of the planet's effects; then, the planet's TERRESTRIAL STATE, since this
determines the category of effects.

The zodiacal state includes as an invariable element the essential nature of the planet,
and as variable elements the nature of the zodiacal sign through which it passes, the
nature and state of its dispositor, and the quality of the aspects which it receives.
The terrestrial state of a planet consists in its position in relation to the horizon of the
birth place, and is expressed by the planet's presence in this or that house.
26. Any planet in favorable zodiacal state is considered to be benefic, in whatever house it is.
Nevertheless, Saturn and Mars, even in good zodiacal state, but in an unfortunate house
(VIII and XII and partially VII) produce pernicious effects.
On the other hand, any planet in unfavorable zodiacal state, in whatever house, acts as a
malefic. this latter circumstance accentuates further the harmful power of planets which
are naturally malefic.
Any planet in mediocre zodiacal state has an influence intermediate between that of a
benefic and a malefic.
The helpful action of planets which are benefic by nature and zodiacal state, shows
itself in the direct production of advantage when the planets are in fortunate houses,
and in the suppression of disadvantage in unfortunate houses.
The harmful action of malefics by nature or zodiacal state manifests itself in the direct
causation of misfortune in unfortunate houses, and by the suppression of good fortune
in the fortunate houses.
27. A planet is determined towards a particular signification by its position, its essential
dignities, its aspects and antiscions, its connections with the other celestial bodies by
means of their disposition, their aspects, and their antiscions.
The natural analogies of the planets represent only a very general determining factor and
are not able to constitute a particular one. Nevertheless, when these analogies are in
harmony with a particular accidental determination, they confirm the latter.
In the contrary situation, they do not entirely invalidate or counterbalance the particular
accidental determination.
Connection with another planet includes two determining factors: (1) the nature and the
analogies of this planet; (2) the latter's particular determination in the horoscope.

28. The physical position is the most powerful of the determining factors; then comes the
disposition (rulership) and aspects.
29. From the point of view of the action of celestial bodies, insofar as this results from their
particular determination, the four following points should be noted: (1) this action may
achieve the object of the determination; (2) it may prevent it from realization; (3) once
realized, it may destroy it; (4) it may turn the realization into a source of happiness or
unhappiness for the native.
30. The position or rulership of a planet in a house does indicate that a category of things or
accidents may or may not befall a person; but a priori and in itself position or rulership
does not indicate the achievement of these things. Their effective realization - or the
contrary - depends on the nature of the planet in the house or on that of its dispositor,
and their zodiacal states. These same factors decise in this case the quality and the
nature of the affairs to be produced.
How to proceed when a House has no Planets in it
31. When a house is devoid of planets, one judges the realization or its suppression, and the
quality of the things essentially signified by the house, according to the nature and the
state of its ruler.
32. It is to be noted, however, that the Ascendant has a stronger significance for the life and
constitution of the native than does its ruler, if the latter is absent from the First House.
The aspects received by the Ascendant are in this case more powerful than those received
by the ruler.
The same observation holds for the Midheaven.
What is indicated when only one Planet physically occupies a given House
33. When only one planet physically occupies a house, it will be the one which principally
decides whether or not realization will occur, and what quality will characterize the
events and affairs signified by the house; nevertheless, its dispositor will participate in
this.
34. Any planet which has in itself an analogy with the significations of the house where it is
posited (or where it rules), realizes the matters and events of the house, whether in a
helpful or harmful way, depending on the harmony or disharmony of it zodiacl state. If
its analogies are contrary to the meanings of the house, it will more or less hinder or

prevent the realization, or destroy what it first produces, or make the realization a source
of trouble.
35. A planet which is benefic by nature and zodiacal state, in I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX,
X, and XI (which are the houses called fortunate) realizes the advantages indicated by
the house in which it is posited.
Here it is always necessary to notice if and how the planet's nature and zodiacal state
harmonize with the meanings of the house.
36. A planet which is naturally benefic and located in a fortunate house, but hindered in its
action by the nature of the zodiacal sign through which it is moving, or hurt by bad
aspects, does not realize the advantages indicated by the house, or at least surrounds this
realization with obstacles or causes bad methods to be used, or limits the acquisition to
small quantity and poor quality, or makes it of short duration, and most often useless.
37. A planet which is a benefic by nature, but in mediocre zodiacal state, and in a fortunate
house, will anticipate the realization of the affairs signified by the house with more
certainty than if it were badly disposed, but will make this realization equally mediocre
from the point of view of quality and quantity, as also from the point of view of the
affair's duration.
38. A malefic by nature and zodiacal state and in a fortunate house, will not effect the
advantages signified by the house, but will rather hinder them so that they are not
achieved; and if they are achieved in any case, the planet will turn their acquisition into a
source of misfortune.
39. A planet by nature malefic, but in a favorable zodiacal state and in a fortunate house, will
bring about the good signified by the house with the condition however, that it does not
undergo any opposition from planets which have an analogy with the significations of the
house. But even without this, it will produce always imperfect advantages, or will bring
about their acquisition by reprehensible means, or with difficulty, or will cause them to
be followed with unhappiness.
40. A planet malefic by nature, in mediocre zodiacal state, and in a fortunate house, neither
gives nor takes away, but only hinders the fulfillment of advantages, above all if it is
contrary to them by nature.
41. A planet benefic by nature and zodiacal state but in an unfortunate house (VIII or XII)
suppresses or mitigates the disadvantages signified by it.

The Seventh House should be considered partially unfortunate inasmuch as it also

signifies battles and enmities.
42. A planet which is benefic by nature, but in unfortunate zodiacal state, in VIIIor XII, or
ruling one of these although physically located elsewhere, will not hinder very dangerous
illnesses nor a violent death.
43. A planet which is benefic by nature, in mediocre zodiacal state, in VIII or XII, neither
causes nor suppresses the unhappy events connected with these houses, but only
tempers their quality and moderates their extent.
44. A planet malefic by nature, in favorable zodiacal state, but in an unfortunate house, does
not suppress the disadvantages signified there, that is, it does not prevent them from
happening (due to its natural malignity), but it will permit the native to escape, or will
mitigate the intensity (due to its favorable zodiacal state).
Nevertheless, for this to be so, the favorable zodiacal state should include good aspects
from benefics; if it consisted only in the fact that the malefic occupied its Domicile or
exaltation, the malefic power would be intensified.
45. A planet which is malefic by nature, in unfavorable zodiacal state, and in an unfortunate
house greatly favors the realization of the troubles signified by the house, provokes them,
and makes them lead to disgrace, infamy, or violence.
46. A planet which is malefic by nature, in mediocre zodiacal state, and in an unfortunate
house does not suppress the difficulties signified there, but rather contributes to their
fulfillment, giving them, nevertheless, less scope than if its zodiacal state were bad.
47. Since each house has an essential significance and an accidental one which actually
derives from its opposite house, it is necessary to make this distinction: a planet benefic
by nature, in favorable zodiacal state and in an unfavorable house, diminishes in itself
the misfortune essentially signified there, but stimulates the good fortune accidentally
signified.
On the other hand, a malefic, whatever its zodiacal state, always indicates by its
opposition hindrance of the accidental significations if they are fortunate, and realization
if they are unfortunate.
48. When a planet rules in a house where it is physically located, its effects acquire even
more intensity.

49. When a planet rules in a house other than the one it occupies, the meanings of these two
houses combine. However, because of Rule 28, the result of this combination tends more
to the meanings of the house occupied by the planet.
50. Besides the determination by position, a planet can undergo another determination
towards the analogies pertaining to another planet with which it is in conjunction or
aspect.
51. Likewise, the aspects received by a planet can exert a complementary determination on it
towards the significations of the planet from which they come, by virtue of the latter's
position or rulership in the nativity.
52. A planet depends more directly on its dispositor when in conjunction or aspect with it
(and above all if this configuration is close). (Cf. Rule 24)
When a planet is in unfavorable zodiacal or terrestrial state but its dispositor is in a
favorable state, the affairs signified by the former will go badly in the beginning, but later
will take a turn for the better, above all if the first planetapproaches a good aspect from
its dispositor. On the other hand, if the planet is in favorable zodiacal state, but its
dispositor is in an unfavorable one, the success or happiness at the beginning will change
into misfortune.
53. The rules from 35 to 47 and from 49 to 51 apply equally to the house rulers.
How to proceed when two or more Planets occupy a House
54. The more planets there are physically together in a house, the more this will indicate
something extraordinary in terms of the house meanings.
55. When many planets occupy the same house, each operates according to its nature and its
own other determinations.
Each one must first be considered according to the rules numbered from 22 to 53.
56. The most powerful action on the house significations will come from whichever one of
the planets is also the house ruler; then, from that one which is in exaltation; and in the
third place, from the one possessing the closest natural analogy with the house
meanings.

When the dignity and analogy are not found together in the same planet, one must take
into consideration the two or three planets together in which these conditions are
separately realized.
The fourth place in order of power goes to the planet which is nearest to the house cusp.
57. When, among many planets occupying the same house, some correspond by their
analogy to the meanings attached to the house, whereas others are contrary to them, it is
necessary to ascertain which of these two groups is the most powerful. If the former, the
affairs indicated will be achieved; if the latter, their realization will be impeded or
prevented.
58. When the planets occupying the same house are all benefics, they anticipate the
fulfillment of the good fortune and the supression of misfortune indicated by the house.
If they are malefics, the contrary will occur, unless they are in good zodiacal state in a
favorable house.
If some are benefics, and others malefics, it will be necessary to examine with care which
ones of the two groups are the most powerful, and to judge according to the result of this
organization.
59. Consider the following:

If, in a fortunate house, a benefic planet is followed * by another benefic, this

indicates that the good produced by the house affairs will be stable.

If the benefic is followed by a malefic, the fortune acquired will be lost.

In an unfortunate house, a benefic followed by another benefic indicates that the

misfortune will not be realized, or if it is, in an extremely limited way.

If this benefic is followed by a malefic, however, the misfortune signified by the

house will certainly occur, but the native will escape it.

But if a malefic is followed by another malefic, the misfortunes caused will be

very serious and the native will never escape them.

By "benefic" and "malefic" we mean as defined in Rule 26.

In the direction of the diurnal movement of the Sphere; the body which precedes is thus
the one closest to the cusp, the one which follows is further away.
*

60. When many planets are found together in the same house and their dispositor is located
in another, the affairs signified by this latter will form the point of departure for
whatever fortune or misfortune is produced by the group of planets. (Cf. Rule 63)
What a House Ruler indicates
61. When the ruler of a house is located in this same house, it will realize the advantages
signified in a remarkable way (above all, if it has a natural analogy with the significations
in question).
If in an unfortunate house, it will deliver the native from the troubles indicated (except
death, since this, of course, is a natural necessity).
(Even Saturn and Mars will quite often deliver the native from difficulties inVIII or XII,
unless they are connected with a malefic, or in conjunction, square, or opposition to the
Lights, or hurting the ruler of the Ascendant.)
62. When the ruler of one house is physically placed in another, the significations of the two
houses can combine, but they do not necessarily or always do this. The planet in question
acts sometimes by reason of its position, other times by reason of one of its rulerships,
and still other times by reason of the other rulership: sometimes it combines the effects
deriving from its position with those of one or other rulership, or at times with those of
both determinations deriving from rulership.
This combination happens according to the possibilities offered by the house affairs in
question. Among these possibilities the ones which correspond most closely to the
nature, zodiacal state, and analogies of the planet in question will most probably be
realized.
63. The ruler of one house which is placed in another indicates that the affairs signified by
the first will become the cause of or point of departure for the realization of the affairs
signified by the second. (Cf. Rule 60)
64. When the Ruler of 1 is placed in another house, or when the Ruler of a house is placed in
1, there will always be a combination of the meanings attached to the houses in question.
65. The Ruler of 1 placed in another house of the horoscope shows that the inclinations and
intellectual tendencies of the native will go principally towards the things signified by
this house.

66. Even though each house accidentally has the essential meanings pertaining to the
opposite house, the Ruler of a house has an influence only on the essential significations
of its house, and not on the accidental ones, unless it is physically in the house it rules, or
disposes of the ruler of the house opposite to its own.
When situated in its own house, its influence on the accidental significations of the house
will be negative (because the opposite house, which is the origin of the accidental
significations, will then constitute its place of Detriment).
67. A Planet located in a House also has an influence on the meanings of the Houses in trine
to the first.
68. A Planet which rules one House but occupies another acts not only by virtue of the
meanings of the ruled and occupied Houses, but also by virtue of the Planets which
occupy the Houses it rules.
69. The Ruler of I or of X in Detriment or Fall constitutes a particularly destructive
situation.
70. When the Ruler of a House is in VIII , it indicates that the death of the Native will be
caused directly by the people or things signified by the House it rules.
71. The Ruler of the Eighth House located in another indicates that the death of the subject
will happen due to the people or things signified by this other House.
How to proceed when many Planets rule in the
same House or one Planet rules in many Houses
72. When a Planet rules many Houses without occupying any of them, it predicts the
combination of the different meanings attached to the Houses. Nevertheless, the
significations of the House with which the Planet has the closest analogy will prevail.
73. Of two or more Rulers of a House one should choose the one which rules the House
Cusp, especially if it has a natural analogy with the meanings of this House and is
powerful by Zodiacal state. However, the other Rulers must not be neglected, and if one
of them is more powerful than the first by reason of its natural analogies and Zodiacal
and Terrestrial state, it will surpass the first in importance.
The Determination of the Planets by their Exaltation and Triplicity

74. The Ruler of a House is more important than the one exalted therein. Nevertheless,
when judging the affairs signified by the House, it is useful to consider the Planet exalted
there, even if it is absent.
75. Triplicity is also a determining factor. It is however, the weakest one of all (even more so
than the aspects).
76. By its Rulership a Planet indicates stability and permanence; by its Exaltation, sudden
and noteworthy changes; by Triplicity, combinations and associations.
77. When the Planets are distributed in many Triplicities, they give many abilities; gathered
in one Triplicity they confer limited abilities, but ones which are remarkable in a certain
direction.
The Determination of the Planets by their Essential Debilities
78. The essential Debilities should not be considered deter- mining factors unless the Planet
in question is in aspect (above all malefic) with the House (or with the Planets in the
House) which constitutes its place of Detriment or Fall. Determination due to the
essential Debilities always is negative in character.
79. Mere Peregrinity acts as a state midway between a benefic and a malefic Zodiacal state.
The Determination of the Planets by Aspects
80. The points of the Primum Mobile where the arcs measuring aspects end, are determined
towards the nature and the accidental disposition of the Planet which sends the aspects.
Thus, the Planets act by means of their aspects. Since, on the other hand, these same
places undergo a local determination deriving from the Houses in which the aspects fall,
it happens that the Planets are "determined by their aspects".
81. The influence of the Planets by virtue of their aspects is often more important than that
exerted by virtue of their Rulership. Every Planet has a noticeably more effective
influence on the affairs signified by the House opposite to the one it physically occupies
than does the Ruler of this opposite House if absent there from and weak, and without
aspect to it. (Thus it is worse for the Ascendant to be afflicted by a square or an
opposition from Saturn or Mars, than it is for the Ascendant to be merely under their
Rulership.)
82. Each Planet acts by its aspects: (1) by virtue of its nature; (2) by virtue of its Zodiacal
state; (3) by virtue of its Terrestrial state, that is, its position and the position of its

Domiciles. Nevertheless, it does not always act simultaneously by reason of the two
elements which make up its Terrestrial state, but sometimes because of one, sometimes
because of the other, sometimes because of both at the same time.
83. Since each Planet forms aspects of different natures it exerts constructive and destructive
influences simultaneously.
84. In conjunctions, the quality of the effects depends on the benefic or malefic nature of the
Planets concerned, as well as their Zodiacal state.
85. Each Planet acts constructively by means of its beneficial aspects (which are, in order of
power: trine, sextile, semi-sextile), and destructively by means of its malefic aspects
(opposition. square. quincunx).
86. Good aspects coming from a naturally benefic Planet produce positive effects with ease
and abundance. They fulfill the advantages signified by the Houses where they fall, and
prevent disadvantages from taking place.
87. Bad aspects coming from a naturally benefic Planet provoke difficulties, troubles, and
losses.
88. When a Planet which is naturally benefic is accidentally in bad Zodiacal orTerrestrial
state, its good aspects will produce only small advantages; its bad ones, much damage.
89. Bad aspects from a naturally malefic Planet cause considerable trouble in the affairs
signified by the Houses in which they fall.
90. When a naturally malefic Planet is in bad Zodiacal or Terrestrial state, the harmful
effects of its malefic aspects are magnified. On the other hand, its good Zodiacal state
will mitigate these effects.
91. By means of its good aspects a naturally malefic Planet will produce a certain success or
fortune in the midst of moderate difficulties. However, if the Zodiacal or Terrestrial state
of the Planet is unfavorable, even its good aspects will harm greatly.
92. When a Malefic, in unfavorable Zodiacal state, receives a bad aspect from a Planet which
is malefic by nature or determination, the malignity of its action will be intensified; if it
receives a good aspect from a benefic, its malignity will be mitigated.
93. When a Planet which is benefic by nature but in unfavorable Zodiacal state is hurt by a
malefic aspect, its action becomes harmful.

94. The same aspect formed by the same two Planets can be at once benefic for one thing,
malefic for another.
95. Two Planets which form an aspect mutually determine one another towards the
significations of the Houses which they occupy.
Consequently, each aspect formed between two Planets always has a double significance,
according to whether one refers it to one or the other of these Planets. (Cf. Rule 106).
96. The specific effects produced by the same aspect formed by the same two Planets varies
according to the Zodiacal Signs through which the Planets pass, and the Houses which
they occupy.
97. In the shared action of two Planets in mutual aspect, the Sun prevails over the Moon, the
Moon over the other Planets, the other Superior Planets over the inferior ones. The
Planet whose Zodiacal state is better, or whose state is more powerful, prevails over
another.
98. Concerning aspects, approach is more effective than departure.
99. Consequently, of two Planets on the verge of forming a mutual aspect, it is the one which
approaches the other in terms of its apparent movement in the Zodiac which acts more
strongly on the significations of the other.
100.
If a good aspect received by a Planet is followed immediately by another good
aspect, the advantage indicated by the first will be achieved definitely and easily. If
followed by a malefic aspect, however, the good fortune will give place to some trouble.
101.
If a bad aspect is followed by another bad aspect the disadvantage so indicated
will be increased and achieved with certainty. If followed by a good aspect, the
disadvantage may finally turn into an advantage.
102.
In order to apply correctly the two preceding Rules it is necessary to take into
account the relative power of two aspects.
103.
When a Planet or a point of the sky receives two or more aspects simultaneously,
the most exact one is more powerful than the others.
104.
The natural order of power of aspects can undergo exceptions as much due to
certain particular determinations of the Planets which send the aspects, as to the Planets'
Zodiacal and Terrestrial states. (Examples: A Planet which rules the Ascendant and is

physically located in X will exert a more powerful influence by its square on the
significations of I than by its opposition on those of IV. A Planet will act more powerfully
on a point of the sky by its square (consequently in a negative way) when exalted than
another, on the same point, by its trine (consequently in a positive way) when this latter
is in Fall.)
105.
When many Planets send aspects into the same House, the Planet whose nature
and determinations are most in harmony with the significations of this House, or whose
determinations from this point of view are the most powerful, will prevail over the others
in terms of its aspect.
106.
When a Planet is outside of its Domicile, its aspects operate in a more noticeable
manner in the direction of the significations of the House which the Planet occupies than
in the direction of the affairs of the House it rules.
107.
The determination which each aspect undergoes by reason of the House in which
it falls is analogous to that undergone by a Planet in the House.
108.
One should always notice whether the significations of a House occupied by a
Planet which sends a given aspect are in harmony with the fortune or misfortune
signified by the House which receives the aspect.
109.
As a general rule, to ascertain the power and quality of the effects produced by a
given aspect, one should consider not only the aspect's form and the Planet and House
from which it comes, but also the position (angular or not) and the character (favorable
or unfavorable) of the House where it falls, as well as the Sign in which it falls, insofar as
this Sign may constitute a place of Honor or Dishonor for the Planet which sends the
aspect.
All other things being equal, when an aspect falls into an angular House its effectiveness
will increase. Falling in an unfortunate House its destructive power in this House will be
increased, or its constructive power will diminish, depending on the case; and inversely if
the aspect falls in a fortunate House.
When the aspect falls in a Sign where the Planet which sends it is in Domicile or
Exaltation, its constructive power is increased or its destructive power diminished. The
contrary occurs when it falls in a Sign where the sending Planet is in Detriment or Fall.
110.
In particular it results that: If a malefic Planet rules in the House in which falls
one of its malefic aspects, and this House is fortunate, this aspect, although malefic, will

exert a favorable but also violent effect which will be followed ultimately by some
disgrace or misfortune.
111.On the other hand, if a Planet rules in the House where one of its bad aspects falls, and
this House is unfortunate, the effect caused will have an extremely destructive character.
112.
A solitary Planet, that is, one without a connection with any other by aspect or
conjunction, augurs something unusual or extraordinary in the realm of the affairs
pertaining to the house it occupies.

another, then it might be time to take a new approach.

Youre 3rd Eye is the chakra connected to your sixth sense so its the center to

directly between your two physical eyes. You cant see it, but once you start using
it regularly, you will feel its presence more and more every day.
You can think of this energy center as you inner compass guiding you on your
path. And when you activate it, you unleash your sleeping powers of intuition!

How to Activate your 3rd Eye

You can begin to activate your third eye with this short meditation:

1. Begin by sitting comfortably with your eyes closed.

2. Take a few deep breaths to center your focus and release any distractions from
your mind. Ahhh ...
3. Now, bring your attention to a question you need answered.
4. Ask the question silently to yourself.
5. Then, with the question in mind, focus your attention at the middle of your
forehead, just between your eyebrows.
6. As you do, vision the color indigo (dark blue) with your minds eye ... your 3rd
eye!
7. Now picture a clear quartz crystal, right there, at your 3rd eye.
8. Release your question into the depths of the crystal. Just let it go from your mind
and focus solely on the crystal.
9. Youll start to see a glow coming from within the crystal. Just watch as that light
pours out in front of you illuminating your way to the answer you seek.
10. When you can see the answer, send an inner blessing of thanks to your 3rd Eye.
11. Take 3 slow, deep breaths.
12. Open your eyes!
You can repeat this simple meditation every day (for at least a week!) and see how
your inner guide begins to awaken and show you the way!
