Contact Information and availability:
School e-mail is preferred that way I can attach any missing assignments or grade
reports.
Web-site (address above and linked from the school site) should be checked regularly. It
has calendars, assignments, due dates, and before/after school availability. Grades will
be updated a minimum of every two weeks.
Phone calls will be returned during a time that I do not have students; either my planning
period or after school.
I arrive at school by 7:30 most days; students will only be allowed into the building with a
pass. After school appointments are available on most Tuesdays. Students are required
to be off campus by 5:10 pm. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in the student
losing after school privileges.
Course Description
United States History course consists of the following content area strands: United States
History, Geography, and Humanities. The primary content emphasis for this course
pertains to the study of United States history from Reconstruction to the present day.

Fast Facts
11th Grade US History is a requirement for graduation.
All students enrolled in standard and honors 11th grade US History must take the End of
Course (EOC) assessment.
The results of the EOC are used to calculate 30% of the student's course grade.
The EOC will assess 18 US History benchmarks plus 54 also assessed benchmarks as well
as three reporting categories:
Late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Century (1860-1910)
Global Military, Political, and Economic Challenges (1890-1940)
The United States and the defense of the International Peace (1940-2010)
The assessment is a computer-based test that will take place in May, 2016.
Educational Materials
Text: Appleby, J., Brinkley, A. Broussard, A.S., McPherson, J.M., and Ritchie D.A. (2013).
United States History and Geography: Florida/Modern Times. USA: McGraw-Hill.
online code is: 39WV-HH9J-52QO
Supplies: Students are expected to come to class prepared with pen, #2 pencil, paper,
notebook or folder, and visible wearing his/her I.D. badge.

Assessment/grading: (all work except quizzes are eligible for corrections)

Daily work (class, quiz or homework) is worth between 15-25 points depending on length
and difficulty.
Projects are worth between 100 and 150 points.
Tests are worth 100 points. Tests are multiple choice with both short and extended
response questions.
Notebooks: class work should be kept in a notebook/binder/folder. I check notebooks the
day of every test for that units assignments.
Grade Calculations: Test are worth 70%, classwork 15% and homework 15%.
Make-up work: Students are responsible for missed work which will be entered as a zero
until the work is turned in and graded. There is a calendar online and in the classroom
with lesson plans and assignments.
Late work: All work is due the day of that units test. All students will complete a missing

work form if their are not turning in work. If late work is submitted without having completed this
form, it will only earn 50% credit. Late work will be accepted up to the deadline for quarter

grades. There will be two deadlines, one after progress reports and one the Friday before
final grades are due.
Bonus: Opportunities will be posted on my website and occasionally sent via remind.
Corrections for assessments must be done during the quarter for test and before
specified deadlines for all other work. These must be done outside of regular class time,
to prevent falling further behind.
Attendance: It is important to student success to attend class regularly and promptly. If
an absence is unavoidable the U.S. History calendar on my website has the activity and
lesson for each day. We have a lot of material to cover. There are no free days.
Academic Honesty: Copying or using anothers work to earn grades is a Class 2 offense.
This applies to ALL work that is graded. It will result in a zero grade earned for all parties
involved. Plagiarism applies when any five word in a row and verbatim. This includes
copying straight from the text book!
