SEARCH MECHANICS

I.

Project: Search for the Outstanding Accounting Students of the Philippines (SOASP)

II.

Coverage: Nationwide

III.

School Participation: All public and private schools, colleges, and universities duly
recognized by the government and accredited by the Commission on Higher Education
that offer a program on accountancy may nominate participants to the SOASP.

IV.

Examination Subjects
A. Financial Accounting 75 minutes
B. Managerial Accounting
75 minutes
C. Finance 45 minutes
D. Information Technology 30 minutes
E. Marketing 30 minutes
F. Management 30 minutes
G. Taxation 60 minutes
H. Business Law 45 minutes
I. Ethical, Governance and Quality Control Principles 20 minutes
J. Economics and Current Affairs (essay) 30 minutes

V.

Minimum Qualifications of Participants


A. Filipino citizen
B. Good moral character
C. Currently enrolled
D. A candidate for graduation by the end of School Year 2016-2017

VI.

Requirements for Submission*


A. Duly accomplished official entry form per participant.
B. Letter from the College Dean certifying the schools representatives to the SOASP,
one copy
C. Two copies of recent 2 x 2 photographs of each participant in white background.
* Advanced copies shall be sent to foundation@ph.gt.com but original copies are still needed.

VII.

Contest Rules
A. General Mechanics
1. Each school, college, or university may send a maximum of six (6) candidates.
No registration fee is necessary to join the contest.
2. All schools must submit all requirements to the organizers not later than
August 31, 2016.
B. Qualifying Examination
1. All candidates shall take the written examination in the ten subjects (refer to Item
IV page 1).
2. The participants must be at the testing center at least 30 minutes before the
scheduled examination.
3. Participants must present their school ID to the proctor.
4. The examination shall be conducted simultaneously on October 8, 2016, at the
following testing centers:

5. All candidates must take the examination at the testing center designated for the
region in which their school is located.
6. The organizers shall be providing pencils to the participants. Calculators are
allowed. (Please refer to the appendix for the list of the authorized brands and
models of non-programmable calculators.)
7. The results of the qualifying exams will be sent to the college deans through
e-mail, postal mail or courier as the case may be, within one month from the
date of the exam. The performance report of the schools participants will also
be indicated in the letter.
8. The twenty-five students with the highest scores during the qualifying
examination will move forward to join the grand finals (see item VII, C.)
9. In case of class suspension i.e. due to typhoon or any uncontrollable
circumstances, the cancellation of qualifying examination shall be the discretion
of the testing center administrator/s.

C. Finals
1. All finalists will compete in Manila on December 5, 2016. An invite will be sent
to the student and their school on the time and venue of the exam.
2. Finalists will be allowed to bring two companions from their schools. The
names of the guests must be submitted to the organizers not later than
November 25, 2016.
3. The individual finalists will take the written examination on Financial
Accounting, Management Accounting, Business Law, and Taxation in a quiz
bowl format.
4. The Board of Judges will be comprised of representatives from P&A
Foundation, Inc., PICPA and ACPACI.
5. The top three finalists in the quiz bowl will proceed to the oral question-andanswer portion to be conducted on the same day by the Board of Judges.
6. The criteria for the oral question-and-answer portion will be as follows:

8. All finalists are required to accomplish the post-evaluation form before the end
of the program.
VIII. Prizes
A. Qualifying Examination
1. Top 25 participants shall each receive a P5,000.00 cash prize to be awarded
during the closing and awarding ceremony. (Note: Non-attendance of the
closing and awarding ceremony means forfeiture of this award.)
2. Highest scorer in the qualifying examination 10,000 plus plaque
3. Participant who gets the perfect score in any subject of the qualifying
examination 10,000 plus plaque for each perfect scorer
B. Finals
1. First Place 50,000 and plaque
2. Second Place 30,000 and plaque
3. Third Place 20,000 and plaque
All prizes will be awarded on December 5, 2016.
