Homework

Students are expected to read at least 15 minutes nightly

Students are expected to practice word work for 5-10 minutes nightly
Students are expected to engage in math practice for 5-10 minutes
nightly
Students are expected to complete unfinished work from school.
Teachers may provide supplemental practice for students with areas of
concern.

Teachers will provide you with homework resources as a guide.

PAWSitive Expectations
The England Elementary PAWS
expectations are guiding principles for
classroom and school behavior. They are
Personal Best, Active Listening, Working
Together, and Safety First all with
RESPECT. We have discussed what each
of these items looks, sounds, and feels like
in our classrooms and around our school.
We expect all students to behave
according to these guidelines and use it in
our daily language.

Social Contract
Teachers and students work together to develop a social contract for the
classroom using the following questions as a guide:
1.
2.
3.
4.

How do you want to be treated by the teacher?

How do you want to be treated by each other?
How do you think the teacher wants to be treated by you?
How do we want to treat each other when there is conflict?

After several small/large group discussions conclude, students and teacher

agree upon key behaviors to follow in order to create a positive learning
environment in the classroom.

Behavior Log in Daily Folder

If your child had a great day regarding behavior, no news is good news. We will not write in folders
unless there is a problem. When behavior concerns arise during the day, they will be addressed with
the following sequence of steps:
Warning (W) No consequence, depending on incident, this is usually problem solved with me and
your child, redirection and discussion of mutual agreements and/or life skills.
Step 1 (1) time away from group
Step 2 (2) time away from group/action plan
Step 3 (3) Call home/action plan
Step 4 (4) Office referral
Please note that the above steps will be indicated on the behavior calendar with codes such as 1 or 2
and a written description of the problem in the Behavior section of the homework folder for that
particular day.

Next gen Opportunities

The Next Generation Digital Classroom (NGDC) pilot program in Round Rock ISD has
implemented digital classrooms at each campus and many libraries to enhance the
integration of new teaching and learning with the help of mobile/tablet technology.
Our class will routinely use laptops, and students may prefer their own pair of
headphones/earphones. These can be found cheap at Walmart, Target, HEB, and
even the Dollar Tree.

PBL

Project Based Learning

Students go through an extended process of inquiry in
response to a complex question, problem, or challenge.
Rigorous projects help students learn key academic content
and practice 21st Century Skills (such as collaboration,
communication & critical thinking).

2nd grade Grading Guidelines

Classroom Assignments: Students do not receive traditional number/letter

grades (e.g. 100A, 80B, 70C) in second grade. Many assignments, including
homework, will be marked for completion using a check or star. Increasingly
throughout the year, assignments and tests will be marked with the total
number correct over the total points possible to help teachers assess mastery
of concepts.
Rather than focus on grades, we emphasize the learning process and strive to
spark intrinsic motivation. Thank you for supporting our efforts to inspire
lifelong learners!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can I get information about the TAG program?
TAG information night early November
Only parents nominate students
Can I get a copy of workbooks, tests, or resources you use in class?
No, these are secure documents used by teacher in the classroom
and not for home practice. Data is not valid if students use
information to study at home.
When can we see tests (spelling, math) students have taken so far?
At our parent conference in October I will discuss those results.
Can you provide extra work or practice for my child?
I will only provide supplemental work if there is an area of need.
