around the world by increasing road activities at the national, regional and global levels. It is dedicated to
saving lives through safer roads, and works in partnership with government and non-government
organizations to inspect high-risk roads and develop Safer Roads Investment Plans. The Philippine
government crafted the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan (PRSAP) 2011-2020 that has for its main goal the

driving competition in the streets of Metro Manila based on drivers style, strategy,
safety and skills. Drive City participants get to prove their street smarts by showcasing

Underscoring its commitment on the importance of promoting and maintaining road safety, Pilipinas Shell
Petroleum Corporation has partnered with the government, non-government and private organizations to
raise road safety awareness and inculcate young children with proper road etiquette and behavior through
the use of flash cards.

DOTC Assistant Secretary Dante Lantin expressed high hopes for the program, which will be part of the
instructional materials for fifth grade students in public schools. He added that fifth-grade students are
chosen because it is at these ages where they are left to walk to and from their school by themselves.
Children at this stage have also developed the sense to gauge when it is safe to cross based on the vehicles
speed and traffic gaps.
The colourful flashcards portray different road scenarios, from vehicle sounds, roads and traffic signs and
behaviours in walking and crossing the streets to riding an embarking in vehicles. To be used as teaching
aids, the ten handy cards will be part of the instructional material for fifth grade students in public schools.

on the proper traffic rules, as well as to heighten their awareness on possible dangers on the road. There had been fifteen
such activities so far, generating many positive responses from the kiddie participants, their parents and observers.

Road Safety Partnership, went on a practice run, completed the driving tasks given, and finally received their Junior Drivers
Licenses. Registration and participation are absolutely free.

School Tour aims to mold students young minds to become safe and responsible road users through
these inter-active audio-visual seminars.

In developed countries like Japan, aspiring drivers have to enrol in formal driving schools to be eligible for a license.
In the Philippines, most teenagers who make up the bulk of newly licensed drivers probably do not even know the
meaning of color yellow in traffic light cluster. The reason behind this is that anyone whos willing and able to pay can
secure a drivers license even without enough knowledge of traffic signs and regulations
