Language has several components- sounds

(phonology), words (morphology), and sentences


(syntax) (Piper, Chp. 2 Intro, 2012).
Phonology is the branch of linguistics concerned
with the description of the sound system (Piper,
p.2.1, 2012).

Morphology is the branch concerned with word


structure (Piper, p. 2.2, 2012).
Syntax refers to sentence structure (Piper, p.2.3,
2012)
