but all questions below has to be answered.
Project brief:
1. For one TT system, a phase conductor resistance ZPh is 0.1, the
neutral conductor has the half cross-section area of the phase
conductor, and the earthing resistances of the source RN and
installation RG are 5 and 50, respectively. This system with the
voltage of 230V supplies the heater of 1kW. The resistance of the
person is assumed to be 1 k. In the following four cases: a). a neutralto-ground first fault occurs (Fig.1). b). the first neutral-to-ground and
the second phase-to-ground faults occur simultaneously (Fig. 2). c). at
the occurrence of the first neutral-to-ground fault, someone
accidentally touches phase line (Fig. 3). d). someone accidentally
touches phase line (Fig. 4).1. Draw the equivalent circuits for each
case. 2. Calculate the residual currents which the RCD can detect. 3.
Compare the residual currents for all these cases and discuss how they
affect the RCD. 4. Can the proper rating of a RCD be chosen to trip for
all these cases? (Assume that the ratings of RCD are 10mA, 30mA,
100mA and 300mA, 0.5A and 1A)

2 For IT systems, it is assumed that RG= 20, C0= 5 nF, the

overvoltage is caused by the phase-to-ground fault under the bolted
fault (i.e. RF = 0) as shown in Fig. 5 and the corresponding equivalent
circuit is shown in Fig. 6.1. Calculate (a). potential difference between
the point of neutral N at the source and the ground G at the faulty ECP,
(b). ground fault current IG flowing through the ground resistance RG.
(c). prospective touch voltage VST.2. If the overvoltage is caused by
the phase-to-ground fault under the fault resistance of 30 (i.e. RF
=30) and its equivalent circuit is shown in Fig. 7, recalculate (a), (b)
and (c) in (1). Comment on the effect of the fault resistance on
prospective touch voltage VST.3. If the resonant ground faults happen
due to the contacts of the line conductor with the ground by means of
an inductance as shown in Fig. 8, determine the value the inductance
to cause this resonant.4. When the resonance takes place in (3), it will
cause the potential difference VNG between the point of neutral N at
the source and ground G at the faulty ECP to approach infinity, the
earthing resistance Rs at the source side can be introduced to make
VNG less than the phase voltage. Find out the maximum value of this

earthing resistance Rs.5. Two RCDs with rating of 30mA have been
installed for protection at occurrence of two phase-to-ground faults in
different phases supplied to two ECPs. Draw a diagram to show the
proper installation of these RCDs.6. These two RCDs should not trip
when the phase-to-ground fault or resonant fault happens just in one
phase by introducing the earthing resistance Rs at the source side to
limit the fault current. Find out the minimum value of the earthing
resistance Rs.
