A major multinationals executives were visiting


a country in South America to finalise a multimillion dollar contract. During their stay, there
was a change in government resulting in
heightened uncertainty about the political
stability in the country. The executives contacted
the 24 hour assistance service for contingency
advice. The security experts advised that the
events posed an elevated level of risk for the
team. The decision was made to remain in the
country and successfully conclude the contract.
The executives were then safely escorted back
to the airport.

Major medical assistance:


Assistance for an oil company employee
An oil company employee, a Canadian national,
was taken ill in Egypt with breathing difficulties.
Following tests, the medical team at the
assistance provider decided that open heart
surgery was required. It was also decided that
the local facilities were not adequate for this
operation. An air ambulance was organised to
fly the employee to a European medical centre
for surgery. Trained medical staff accompanied
the employee on the flight. ACE assistance also
arranged for his wife to be flown over to the
hospital from Canada to be with her husband.
The surgery was performed one week later and
the employee made a good recovery.

A medical emergency for the dependent


of a senior executive
Travelling overseas for the Christmas holidays,
a business executives young daughter was taken
ill on board an aircraft. She was transferred
immediately to hospital upon landing. The
assistance company explained to the family back
at home what was going to happen, to minimise
their anxiety. The child had a pre-existing medical
history which led to swelling of the brain and she
was treated in intensive care. She became very ill
and it was a long way from home. ACE arranged
emergency repatriation through its assistance
service and the child was accompanied home
by her mother. ACE assistance maintained
contact with all parties and went the extra mile
by arranging a courier to deliver the childs
specialised wheelchair to their home address.

A senior manager was unwell during an overseas


trip and rang ACE at 02:30 am for advice.
Following an assessment over the phone of the
symptoms, the medical care team immediately
