What are the main categories of petrophysical logs. What do they read
and what can we extract from them?

What is the top reservoir in this well? (Measured depth)

What kind of hydrocarbons do we have in this reservoir? Gas or oil
explain why.

What is the hydrocarbon water contact in this field(well)? Explain why
you have a transition interval gradual reduction in HC saturation
down towards the water zone

Explain the difference between free water level and oil water contact
(OWC)?

What is the net hydrocarbon portion (reservoir rock) relative to the
total reservoir column in this well? This portion is called Net/Gross
(Gross can be read from top reservoir and down to the OWC)

What kind of reservoir do we have (what kind of rocks)?, and explain
why, based on the petrophysical log readings

What are the main parameters that control the hydrocarbon pore-
volume in the reservoir?

Can you explain the difference between resources and reserves in a
hydrocarbon reservoir?

What is STOOIP and GIIP?

Give some comments and reflections why recovery factors in reservoir
may vary a lot.

Make a calculation of porosity and oil saturation at level 2750m,
2763m, 2782m and 2790m in this well, based on the petrophysical logs
linked to these simplified equation.

Typical density of common minerals and fluids are
Quartz sand
2.65 g/cc
Calcite

2.71 g/cc
Shale
2.6-2.7 g/cc (can be a lot smaller when the shales
are less consolidated
Gas
0.3 g/cc (dependent of the gas quality)
Oil
0.8 g/cc (dependent of the oil quality
Heavy oil can be up to 1 g/cc
Water
1. 0 g/cc

Water resistivity

Use Archies simplistic equation for making your calculations

Discuss how accurate these methods are for calculations of porosity
and saturation. What kind of sampling / data collection would you like
to have, to narrow down the uncertainty?
