It is also called split muff coupling

The muff is made up of two halves that are bolted together
Shaft end are made to butt each other and a single key is fitted directly in the keyway of both the

two shafts
One half of the muff is fixed from below and the other half is placed from above
Both the halves are held together by means of studs or bolts and nuts
bolts may be of sizes 2, 4 or 6
Nuts are recessed into the bodies of the muff casting
Coupling may be used for heavy duty and moderate speeds
The main advantage of this type of coupling is that the position of shafts need not be changed for

assembling or disassembling of the clamping bolts

Design of muff and key for compression coupling is the same as a sleeve coupling
