IMPORTANT PROJECTS
Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati Aug07 Apr08 (B. Tech. Project)
Study of the evaporation-induced patterns from droplets of mammalian cells
- Samples used were BHK-21 and HT-29 cell lines. Experiments were conducted using stained and
unstained cells. Imaging techniques used were Optical and Scanning Electron Microscopy
- A model was developed and simulated in MATLAB to explain the variance in observations by
incorporating the effects of gravity, enhanced evaporation from the edge of the droplets and
pinning of contact line
- Supervisors: Dr. S. S. Ghosh, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, IIT Guwahati
Prof. Arun Chattopadhyay, Head, Center for Nanotechnology, IIT Guwahati
University of Toronto, Toronto May07 Aug07
Statistical analysis of data generated from experiments involving high throughput yeast cell
screening using a confocal microscope
- Various statistical techniques like chi-square normality test, Anderson darling statistic test and
Principal Component Analysis were applied and implemented in MATLAB Statistics Toolbox
- Supervisor: Dr. Charlie Boone, Professor, Donnelly CCBR, University of Toronto
Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore May06 - July06
Creation of a computing server named Consensus Secondary Structure Prediction (CSSP)
for predicting the secondary structure of a protein
- The web server was hosted on a REDHAT 9 platform on APACHE web server. Programs were
written in PERL & C to search dynamically for various patterns (motifs) in huge databases like
GDB, PDB, SWISSPROT, PIR etc and predict the consensus secondary structure
- The web server can be accessed at http://bioserver1.physics.iisc.ernet.in/cssp
- Supervisor: Dr. K. Sekar, Principal Research Scientist, SERC, IISc Bangalore

TERM PROJECTS
Simulating a two-phase flow in a two dimensional T-shaped channel using VISA-RELAP 5
- Simulated the fluid flow in the channel to calculate various parameters like pressure drop, fluid
velocity, mass qualities etc across the entire spatial location of the channel
- Supervisor: Dr Manmohan Pandey, Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, IIT Guwahati
- Course Two Phase Flow and Heat Transfer
Created a Student Registration Automation Software for IIT Guwahati
- The project involved the creation of a database schema and a web-interface implementation
- Oracle (Server 10g) was used as backend and JSP (with JDBC and Java Servlets) was used to
design the front end
- Supervisor: Dr. J. K. Deka, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, IIT Guwahati
- Course Databases Laboratory

Gene Cloning and Transformation of Tobacco Plant

- Successfully transformed a Tobacco plant with a desirable gene via Agrobacterium-mediated
transformation technique. This work was done as part of a course in Plant Biotechnology
- Supervisor: Dr. Lingaraj Sahoo, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, IITG
- Course Plant Biotechnology Laboratory
WORK EXPERIENCE
Since June 2008, I have been a part of the Microsoft Group in the TMT vertical (Technology, Media &
Telecom) at Mu Sigma Business Solutions Pvt Ltd as a Business Analyst, with a focus on high end data
analytics; the end result being development of business insights for the client.
Project 1: A DataMining project for CMRI, Microsoft
Role: My task was to validate a database developed by Microsoft against other databases acquired
and provided from market research companies like IDC, PCMIT & NPD. The analytical process
involved definition of key metrics common across the databases, correlation analysis and market
share analysis. Regression Models were built to predict the sales of Microsoft Products using the
database and upper and lower limits were computed for the predicted value within a 95%
confidence interval.
Techniques Used: Correlation Analysis, Market Share Analysis, Regression Models, Computation
of lower and upper limits within a 95% confidence interval.
Softwares Used: SAS, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, xCelsius
Project 2: A Survey Analysis project for DTS Team, Microsoft
Role: My task involved conducting audit of the data collected from a biannual survey by the DTS
team, defining and calculation of key metrics as and when required by different business group
leaders, providing key insights regarding the metrics calculated and delivering insight packages on
key focus areas by performing analysis using different statistical techniques.
Techniques Used: Linear & Logistic Regression Models, Cluster Analysis, Discriminant Analysis,
CHAID, Data Fusion, Markov Chain Analysis
Softwares Used: SPSS, Microsoft Excel, SAS
SKILLS

Programming Languages: C/C++, JAVA, PERL

Web Design: HTML, JavaScript, Microsoft Frontpage
Scripting Languages: CGI with Perl, SSI, PHP (oci8 also), JSP, Java Servlets, JDBC
Database Management: Oracle (Server 10g), My SQL, Microsoft Access
Software Packages: MATLAB, Rasmol, Apache Web Server, Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, SAS
Statistical Techniques: OLS & Logistic Regression, FactorGram & Cluster Analysis, ARIMA &
Time Series Analysis, CHAID
