Silence greatly helps us in our Spiritual Life.
It is good for us to practise Silence for about an hour
a day to test ourselves, to acknowledge our
passions, and to fight against them in order to cut
them off and to purify our heart.
It is very good if there is a quiet room in the house,
which gives us the sense of a Monastic Cell, where
in secret we are able to do our Spiritual
Maintenance, - to study and to pray.

When, owing to sickness that proceeds from various causes, we

feel unwell and indisposed, and when in this condition, our
Prayer is cold, heavy, filled with despondency, and even
despair, we must not become disheartened or hopeless, for
our Lord God knows our sick and painful condition.
We must Struggle against our infirmities, and pray as much
as we have strength to do so, and our Compassionate,
Loving Lord will not despise the infirmity of our flesh and
spirit.
