Organizational Structure:
An organizational structure defines how activities such as task allocation,
coordination and supervision are directed towards the achievement of
organizational aims. It can also be considered as the viewing glass or perspective
through which individuals see their organization and its environment.
a) Could you provide us with some background information on your company
(Credit Corporation)
When was it founded, by whom and where?
What kind of business does it do?
When did it begin operations in Fiji?
How many branches in total:
How many employees are in the organization?
b) What are the organizational goals of Credit Corporation?

c) Being a big organization there must be job specialization (work divided
among employees). What mechanisms are used so that employees work
effectively together and explain:
How employees communicate with each other (formal manner or
informal manner)? (Explain or give example)
Or power is assigned to certain individuals who direct work processes?
(Explain or give example)
Or there are standardized work processes, standardized skills that
employees have to adhere to? (Explain or give example)
d) Any problems that arise when using these mechanisms to get employees to
work effectively?
e) Do employees report directly to managers or employees report to their
supervisors who then report to the managers?
f) How many levels of management are there in your organization and explain
why these levels of management are there:
g) Is decision making authority held by top level mangers only or decision
making authority and power is spread throughout the organization? Or there
is both??
h) Are employees included in the decision making process?
i) Being a formal organization there must be certain rules and procedures in
place, so does this at times affect the flexibility and creativity of the
organization? (eg. standardized rules and procedures have to be followed at
all times that new ways of solving problems or coming up with new solutions
is not done). Please explain.

j) Are the employees in your organization grouped in departments? (Such as


finance, human resource and many other departments)
k) Are there self-directed teams in your organization? (teams that get together
to do an entire piece of work by themselves with minimal supervision)
l) Does your organization make cross functional teams at times in order to do a
particular project? (cross functional teams are where employees from
different departments get together for the purpose of a particular project)
m) Is there high rate of change in your business environment or are there regular
cycles of activity and steady changes?
n) Does your organization face a lot of competition from other similar
organizations? If yes than how do you overcome these completion (what do
you do better in your organization)
o) Is technology an important part of your organizational design? And why?
p) Do any problems arise with the use of technology in your work place (such as
problems during power blackouts, or crashing of computers that hold data)
and how do you overcome these problems?
q) Do you think your current organizational structure is effective or do you plan
on changing it in the near future? If yes, than what changes would you like to
make and when?
r) How do you get feedbacks on employees performance?
s) What communication methods do top level mangers use to get the
information out in the organization to lower level employees?
Top level managers inform low level managers so that they can inform
other employees

Organizational Culture:
Organizational culture is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs,
which governs how people behave in organizations. These shared values have a
strong influence on the people in the organization and dictate how they dress, act,
and perform their jobs.

Innovation (experimenting, risk taking and very few rules)
Stability (predictability, security and rule-oriented)
Respect for other co -workers (polite communication methods)
