Using your Maths Quest interactive CD

The Maths Quest CD operates with a program called Acrobat reader. Following are some hints
on how to use this program effectively.
Navigation
Clicking on the first choice of the opening screen Interactive text on CD brings up the
following:

The left section, called the Navigation pane may be hidden or displayed by clicking the fourth
toolbar button from the left

the Show/Hide Navigation pane button

The Navigation pane contains bookmarks or links to sections of the Maths Quest text.
If the mouse is moved over an object (text or graphic) that is linked, the cursor changes to a
pointed finger:

. A single click then jumps you to the new location.

A convenient view may be obtained using the Fit Width toolbar button.

The Fit Width button

To scroll through the text, use the vertical scroll bar controls at the right of screen, or ensure
the cursor is set as the Hand Tool (click the
on the toolbar if necessary) and drag from
anywhere in the active window.
Tip: Choose Continuous from the View menu at top of screen to allow viewing of the top of
the next screen immediately after the bottom of a page.

Use the last two arrow buttons to move back and forwards between recent views/screens.
To go to a particular page, use CTRL N, and type the number of the page.
Copying and pasting
To copy text or graphics faithfully, we recommend using the graphics select tool for both.
Pause the mouse over the T button on the toolbar, and select the graphics select tool (last
option)
from the fly out menu that appears. Click and drag around the area to be copied,
select Edit/Copy or CTRL C, open the application you wish to copy to (e.g. Word) and paste
(CTRL V) to the desired position.
To select text that you wish to word process, use the Text select tool (first option on the fly
out menu), but be prepared to adjust fonts and formatting depending on the fonts installed on
your computer.
Press H to return to the Hand Tool.
Links to other applications
One of the most exciting and important features of the Maths Quest CD is the links from
special icons in the margins. There are icons that link to Mathcad files, Excel spreadsheets,
Cabri geometry files ,Graphics calculator documents and programs, SkillSHEETs,
WorkSHEETs and Tests. Simply click on one of these CD icons, and the appropriate
application will open (after you click to confirm).

Note: Occasionally a Mathcad icon may not appear to link to its corresponding Mathcad file.
Simply click the icon a second time if this happens (or start Mathcad using the
StartPrograms menu).
To return to the Maths Quest text on CD, select it from the taskbar at bottom of screen.
