Social Studies
Children will develop an understanding that family
and culture contribute to a persons identity. They
will explore our similarities and differences to help
shape understanding of self.
Children will:
Formulate and ask questions about families
Present, explore and analyse family and
cultural artifacts
Identify roles, rights and responsibilities in
a family
Express his or her understanding of what a
family is
Identify factors that influence ones
identity
Present the type of family that reflects who
he or she is.

Mathematics
Children will further their number knowledge and
strategies by:
Learning to count fluently forward and
backwards to 20
Use counting on and back as a strategy
Use number lines, tens frames and abacus as
counting tools
Build an understanding that the last number
counted defines the size of the set
(cardinality)
Read, write, compare and order the numerals
to 10
Able to name the number before and after a
given number to 20
Learn the visual and symbolic patterns for
numbers to 10 (dice, dominoes, subitizing).
Be able to record their counting using
numbers, pictures and words.
Children will continue to build their understanding of
statistics by:
Collecting, sorting and counting data by
category.

Displaying data using pictographs, set


diagrams and bar charts.
Discussing the similarities and differences
between categories.
